The Averatec 3150HD notebook a good buy
by depthcharge01 ,May 09 '04
Pros: Light weight and a good value. with its size you could store it anywhere. Cons: Battery life is two hours at best. keyboard leaves marks on the display screen.
At first I was skeptical about this notebook because Ive never heard of Averatec, but now I am finding out that I made wise investment.
I bought the 3150HD and so far the performance has been great.
Only one thing however; the keyboard is too close to the screen that when you close the notebook, it leaves a mark. Its not that noticeable unless youre looking. also the battery life isn't as advertised. it's more like 2 hours than three. Those are my only complaints, otherwise it a great performance notebook.

Strong, light, compact bargain with magnesium case
by jegssr ,Mar 10 '04
Pros: portability, light weight, small size, tough magnesium case, performance, price Cons: delicate flip-out modem jack.
I was looking to replace my deceased Compaq Presario 1200XL laptop and didn't want anything physically larger. The Averatec is less than half the weight, one-third the thickness, is stronger with a magnesium case and fits my needs perfectly. The Athlon 1.6 processor provides plenty of speed, the drives are perfectly suitable for my needs, the battery life is really 3 hours! The Averatec suits my transportability needs and serves as an excellent platform for my GPS program when traveling. I had looked at the small offerings from Sony, but didn't want to spend two grand for a laptop. Besides, the last Sony I bought was flimsy and unreliable. The Averatec is one tough notebook and the less than $900 price at Sam's makes the Averatec one of today's true bargains. I would recommend it to anyone who values portability over maximum screen size. It has one caveat: the flip-out modem jack is plastic - not magnesium - and breaks easily. I glued mine back with Loctite Plastix glue and it works fine.

Lightweight and a great price
by tinso ,Apr 14 '04
Pros: Lightweight, great display, runs for 3 hours as advertise. Cons: The only complain I have is the keyboard is to small but usable.
I been using it for a month now and so far no troubles. If you run the battery utility when new you will get aproximately 3 hours of regular use. At only 4.3lbs its great to carry around and don't have to carry an external drive like IBM. The wireless works well, I have a hot spot near home and I use it without problems.
