I needed a simple, easy to use router with good range-I found it!

by DennisM Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Sep 26 '05
Pros: Easy to set up, good range, future technology!
Cons: No MAC support in the box!! No ICHAT with encryption!
Well, my headline spells it out. Being a MAC user, I already felt somewhat left out in the cold! The choices for MAC routers is not that great! I did some investigating and found that this Belkin Pre-N router is both MAC & PC compatible! Well, that ...

by rafco , Oct 22 '05
Pros: delivers exactly what it promises great technology easy installation
Cons: none really so far need to manually initiate security
Having been disappointed with the whole wifi concept for a long while, this Belkin router finally seems to be bringing what I have been looking forever ... true wireless and unconstrained connectivity throughout the whole house, at decent speeds. Here ...

Real Wireless At Last !!!

by mfarris2 , Mar 03 '05
Pros: Fast! Easy installation. Range. Price. Stability of connection! Security. Did I mention speed and range?
Cons: None found yet
First let me say I have always been an Linksys fan. Yes, I have tried other wireless routers. D-Link, Netgear, 3Com and even previous models of Belkin. And I have always returned to Linksys. None of Labels I have mentioned above really impressed me. Some ...

Wireless part is stellar but the router part has some issues

by akwon1218 , Sep 25 '05
Pros: super fast and longest range SOHO wireless, nice looks
Cons: weak router functions and glitches on fully duplex audio streaming at least under MSN messenger
I have been using DI-624 and works great so far except its somewhat limited wireless range. I have been reading many good reviews and feedbacks posted by consumers and experts on Belkin Pre-N router and Pre-N PCMCIA card on internet. So I finally ...

Check your network before you buy...

by greg_dance , Sep 06 '05
Pros: Nice looks, great wireless connection
Cons: Requires ICMP to work, fewer LED's to help debug issues, really bad technical support offering.
This Belkin router is not the drop in wireless router that the marketing folks glamorize, but it does offer great coverage. Items of note: 1) Probably the single most important thing to know before you go to buy this router is that ICMP must be ...

Outstanding product. Easy as pie!

by wmaki , Jun 08 '05
Pros: EASY setup. Great range. Consistent signal.
Cons: Expensive compared to other routers (although this performs unlike any router).
NOTE (This is a long winded, but (I feel) helpfull review).Unlike a few of the other reviews of this product, I would classify myself as a novice in dealing with routers. I am a small business owner that has 13 laptop computers and two hard-wired ...

Replace Dlink? Wireless to the next level.....

by omegahertz2000 , Oct 22 '05
Pros: Fast set up, user friendly, sleek look, excellent range, blazing speed. Good price.
Cons: Too much time making cables, not enough time making routers! slowly getting there
After my Dlink 624 decided to start crapping out on me, I ventured in the next wave of technology. It was the first router with true high speed technology that didn't drop the signal due to high activity. Dlink is great but has glitches with the ...

Belikin Wireless Pre-N Router (Good) / Wifi PCI card (Bad)

by creativeid , Nov 28 '05
Pros: Router: works well / PCI Wifi Card: Nothing good that I can say about it.
Cons: PCI Wifi Card: Don't get it!!
I have found Belkin Wireless Pre-N router (F5D8230-4) to be a solid performer. However, my review is more for people who are considering pairing this unit with Belkin's own PCI Wifi adapter (F5D7000 V3), which I found to be a poor performer (unable to ...

This unit saved my investment, good, solid at 54mbs

by intrepi , Mar 11 '06
Pros: High cost, high signal strength, reliable and runs well with DLINK hardware
Cons: There are some, no doubt but in my applications, I haven't run into any problems.
I bought this unit after reading a lot of reviews which is what I should have done before buying DLINK DI-624 with 3 DLINK DWL-G520 pci cards and three DLINK 7db antennaes to increase signal and range. After replacing the DLINK units twice in 3 months as ...

great router for the average user

by nowitski41 , Dec 12 '07
Pros: good signal and speed.
Cons: setup not as easy as advertised.
I bought my first router after much research and decided to go with the Belkin Pre-N wireless router. Setup was relatively easy. I had one issue with some encryption numbers but tech support was able to help me out within a reasonable amount of time. I ...

Good product but inflexible
by arthurmnev ,Sep 05 '05
Pros: Range, 108Mb speed/pre-N card, 54 Mb speed with standard G
Cons: designed without advanced user in mind
it works (sometimes), the range is great. A few issues that I have with it:
- Current firmware version is not showing up other then configuration backup script.
- you can only assign 192.168/172.x/10.x to internal network. I'm using another reserved range - had to switch the router to bridge mode
- no multiple management stations. Only 1 station can manage the AP at a time.
- no way to pull up current ARP cache in bridge mode - this is just plain annoying.
- there seems to be no CLI interface.

Overall, if you want good range and what seems to be a reliable device this is a good product. Dont, however, expect great flexibility.

I updated this review and dropped the rating as about 2 weeks in, access point started spontaneously crashing - when it does, all connections die and the only way to 'fix' the problem is to pull out the power cable, wait for a few minutes and plug it back in. Range and speed is great, but what good does it do when the device doesnt work...

Unrivalled signal output and reception!
by grantkevin ,Jan 26 '06
Pros: No signal drops. Nothing degrades signal strength within prescribed distance.
Cons: The price is slightly higher than b/g technologies but there're really no comparisons to Pre-N/MIMO.
This router has amazing reception strength.

At home I use this router coupled with the Belkin Pre-N MIMO Wireless Notebook Card for uncompromising reception and speed. This is no exaggeration: I now receive a stronger signal 2,000 feet away from my router than I did with my laptop physically plugged into the cable modem. I have experienced zero signal degradation in my 4,200 square foot, 125 year-old, horsehair plastered house and have tested it in every corner of this house, and on all four levels.

There is no interference from my cordless or wireless devices and have never dropped a signal since installing this device. (This was not the case before with another manufacturer's 108 Mbps Router/Card combination).
I can't say enough positive things about this card and router.

Pros: range, speed, ease of set up
Cons: none
This is by far the best router on the market. The range is awesome and the set up is so easy my 3yr old might have been able to do it. Go by 1 it is so worth the price you won't beleive it until it is up and running. never kicks me off even when the cordless is being used right next to it. This is the one!!

A really fast no brainer
by firetorah ,Sep 12 '05
Pros: Friendly wizard set-up. Blazing speed. Easy. Blazing speed.
Cons: Given its design, they should have made it functional as a coaster.
For real plug-n-play device. Set-up was a real snap. Somewhat limited for Cylon power users but for the other 99.9% of humanity this little gem sings. Good multi layered security. When used with a pre-n card on the other unit, you would swear you were connected directly to broadband. Most impressive. Did I mention that it is fast! Quit looking around. Spend the bucks and get the router and PCMICA card. Dang this thing is fast!
