Pros: Set up is a breeze, good features Cons: Range is iffy (objects in its way can effect range a lot)
BELKIN 2.4GHz - 802.11b Wireless Router This Wireless router is my first; however I have dealt with wireless routers before setting up networks and so forth... This one is great. PRICE: The price for this router is amazing (if you look ...
Pros: Inexpensive, built in 4 port switch (with uplink) Cons: Unreliable, immature firmware.
I picked up a Belkin F5D6231-4 at my local CompUSA for the low low price of $29.99 after rebates (two weeks later it was $9.99 at Fry's, but what are you going to do?) I was looking for an inexpensive router, but what I got was a cheap router. I have ...
Pros: Great Price, Ease-of-Installing, Great Functionality. Cons: Can be a little complicated for beginners to configure.
I've been searching for a router with the price that I'm comfortable with, which was after rebate. Regular price was $69.99, but got $60 rebate. I came across this router, and glad that I got this router. This wireless router is the ...
Pros: Cheap (Free after rebates) and effective. Easy wired configuration. Cons: Difficult wireless configuration.
I bought my Belkin router at CompUSA and, after rebates, it was free. It works well and I've been happy with it. It is positioned in a corner room of my house which is, "non-optimal." But, anywhere in my 1,800 square foot house the signal strength is ...
Like other users, I seem to have purchased what I thought was a high-quality product. NO. It's not. I had to replace the original purchase within about 3 months of buying it. It dropped my connection continuously and it seemed to be totally unable to m ...
Poor support, misleading documentation by tucker651 ,Sep 24 '03
Pros: Price... only if you can get it to do what its documentation claims it supports. Cons: No Support, Misleading product claims, poor and unreliable product.
Product claims to support Macintosh and Appletalk. In reality Appletalk is only supported (partially) on the wired side of the router. Wireless does not support Appletalk or Macs. If you have Macs or a mixed environment stay away from this product.
Customer support? Not at Belkin! Never responded to my inquiries. Nothing on their support database regarding Appletalk support. I guess if they ignore a problem long enough it will go away.
Never received rebate. Acts like a company in trouble.
Pros: easy install, solid connection, great price. Cons: absolutely none
I was a little nervous about purchasing this router after reading some of the other reviews, but for 19 bucks (after rebates) I had to give it a shot. It was a simple plug and play installation and it has now been up and running for 3 weeks and has never lost signal or dropped a connection. The signal strength is always excellent. I have zero remorse over this purchase.
BEWARE!!! PRODUCT IS A RIP OFF by mvas2003 ,Oct 04 '03
Pros: It's cheap. Nice looking. That's it. Cons: Loses connection. Tech support doesn't speak good English. No Refunds!
I recently bought this product from CompUsa. It had rebates so I sent in the rebates the same day I got it. This router does not work. It loses its connection. At times takes long just to log on to the internet. I can't return the item because CompUSA won't take it back without the UPC that I needed to send to Belkin for the rebate. Tech support is terrible. The Update for the product doesn't work. And everyone on the net is having the same problem with this item. So what does that tell you. IT SUCKS! Don't buy it. Belkin has a unsatisfactory rating with the Better Business Bureau as well. So what does that tell you!
Belkin Wireless Cable Router by mfguru ,Jan 29 '04
Pros: WEP. Firewall uses both NAT and SPI. Cons: Poor Tech Support. Security risks-leaves TCP port 80 open and can't turn off wireless.
I can not recommend this router. Although I paid only $10 with the rebates (if they come) it is problematic. Compared to the Linksys 4 port router I have used, it is 2nd best.
Pros: The wireless works well including the encryption using WEP. The wired networking works well for connecting via the cable modem to the internet. It provides both NAT and SPI for the firewall.
Cons:It leaves TCP port 80 open- an unnecessary security risk. It does not allow you to turn off the wireless part of the router when not in use- again a security risk. I have not been able to get it to allow network connections between the computers in my home which should all be behind the firewall. This was never an issue using the Linksys router. Belkin has not offered to upgrade the router firmware to the more secure WPA form of wireless security. Lastly, I found the technical support abysmal. I have asked for help with 3 configuration problems by email. They (Tech Support) only responded to one of the questions.
Overall this is a functional but inferior product.
Pros: good features, works great so far, most importantly: dirt cheap Cons: none
I was a little wary of buying this router after reading the reviews of it on here, but for 10 bucks after rebate, it's pretty hard to pass up.
This is really a pretty good little router. It may not be as "easy" to set up as some other ones, but I had my network functioning perfectly in about 5 minutes.
Out of the 3 possible networks I have set up at my house, this was actually the easiest.
Not only did I have 0 problems setting up the network, but there were no "parental control" ads as I have read about on the internet.
If you're thinking about getting this router, go for it.
Pros: Easy setup, pain free firmware upgrades, outstanding range and excellent wireline performance! Cons: None
I installed this router for a friend almost a year ago. The signal strength is excellent and I have since purchased the 54G version for myself and my parents. All three routers are performing flawlessly. After extensive problems with 2 Netgear routers and a bad Netgear 54G router out of the box, I was looking for an alternative. Belkin worked out to be an excellent alternative. I recommend it to all my friends, families and customers. Stay away from the inconsistent quality of Netgear and Linksys products. Buy the Belkin; you will be glad you did!
Works decently only as an Access Point by aoffenba ,Dec 30 '03
Pros: Range seems to be pretty good. Cons: Setup, hardware issues, firmware issues, reset button should be a BIG RED BUTTON on top.
My suggestion: don't buy this to use it as a router. Use it as a wireless access point instead.
The firmware has issues, and I am 100% convinced that the WAN port is physically wired incorrectly. Get a decent cheap wired router (I've had great success with the D-Link DI-604) and use that as the main router. Take an ethernet cable from one of the main router ports to any wired port on the Belkin EXCEPT for the WAN port. Set up both routers to use the same IP range and subnet, and then setup the Belkin as an access point. I know it sounds absurd, but it worked well for me. The Belkin WILL NOT WORK WELL (or at all) as a router, DHCP server, etc. Something is seriously wrong with the product.
As far as the wireless part goes, the Belkin actually doesn't do so bad. The range is good - actually, it might be better than many others. And it works well with at least Netgear and Linksys wireless cards. I'm just glad that I got the thing to do something.
