Pros: Good product, it works. Cons: Co. is dogmatic
Aside from trying to find an authorized dealer in the United States. They make it 100% clear by providing the "unauthorized" list of dealers and not focusing on providing a positive buying experience for potential customers. If you go to the ...
Pros: range, multiple threat display, voice alert, price compared to other 'top' detectors Cons: coiled power cord. would like a straight wire smartplug. performance cons=none!!
After reading many many reviews online about the V1,8500 and 9500, and the RX65, I bought an RX65 (version 6.3)about 2 months ago and this thing has already paid for itself 10 fold. I purchased it after my previous, and lower caliber, detector failed to ...
Pros: Best way to protect you from speed detectors IMHO. Cons: No way to email them
My wife bought this for me because she knows I may exceed the speed limit sometimes. Perhaps she thought she'd save us money on insurance if I got caught! Due to some family things, I had to drive from NC to OH and back 3 times within 2 months. The ...
Pros: Price, detection (KA band) and looks Cons: Forget Laser detection!
The RX65 is one of the best detectors on the market. I replaced my Beltronic 985 with the RX65. I have had to make a few minor mods. I eliminated X band and K band, as K band went off every time I passed a store with an alarm system (which is every ...
Pros: Work GREAT when they work Cons: 2 Failed in 3 months, long turnaround time, bell hard to deal with warranty
Bought 2 of these new on 4-11-06. One failed within 30 days, and the other within 3 months. The way BOTH of them failed is that when you plug them in, the lights come on for a split second then they power off. No beeps are emitted. I called to return ...
The bel rx-65 is one of the "Top 3" radar detectors made today. I currently own both of the other 2, inclunding the v1 and escort x50. The Rx-65 is perfect detector for the serious driver. In 2005 Speed Measurement Labatories who test all Radar ...
Pros: Awesome Range, Great Value, Good voice, Good Pop Warning! Cons: Rear coverage lacking, red LEDs, no direction indicators.
Bought a RX 65 last month to replace a Cobra that had lost it's voice(??). Did my home work for 3 weeks, and started out believing I needed a V-1 but it became clear that the RX65 was a better product for a lot less $$. I picked a NIB RX65 off ebay for ...
Pros: Function, sensitivity, readability, price point. Cons: No direction finding capability, a lot of false POP signals. Volume too quiet.
This is a great unit for those that don't want to spend the V1 premium. I first bought a V1 when I bought my wife her car, and when I bought my new car I gave into the marketing hype and purchased the RX65; partly because of some of the tests that I ...
Pros: Rare false alerts even with POP turned on. Ability to turn off certain radar bands. Cons: Wish that Bel would package with a soft case, and a hardwire kit.
I have owned several different radar detectors. I think I have finally purchased one that meets my needs. I live next to a major airport. The wind sheer detection at the airport provided my old radar detector the Bel 880 problems beyond belief. The ...
Pros: Top-shelf performance, attractive cosmetics, Beltronics quality Cons: Flashy exterior a beacon to would-be thieves, prohibitive cost for the casual user
Let me preface this review by admitting to driving faster than the posted limit more than I ought to so I'm pretty picky about radar detector performance. I needed an upgrade from the Beltronics 855STi that I had been using for quite a while and I found ...
Pros: Clear display, voice alert, loud beep, pretty case
Better than V1 in photoradar performance Cons: Not as sensitive (or fast reacting) as the X50
Worse than X50 in photoradar performance
*** UPDATE OF RX65 VS X50 VS V1 at the bottom of this review (07/Sep/04) *** I have tested the RX65 against the Multanova 6F (34.3 KA band frequency), which is a very common and popular brand of radar outside of the USA, and is used extensively in ...
Pros: High quality, excellent features, bright LED display visible in sunlight, solid detection performance, voice alerts. Cons: Expensive. Some falsing (minimal). My cel phone (Palm Treo 600) sets off the detector.
After being thoroughly disappointed with the Vector 995 which I returned, I bought a Bel RX65 because I got it for a good price. The Vector 995 was the worst detector I ever bought but Bel has redeemed themselves with the RX65. This detector is awesome. ...
Pros: Excellent range, Detects POP3 Cons: Display geared toward mounting low, no multiple signals per band indication
Since there is not much first-hand information available about new Beltronics Bel RX65 radar detector I decided to share my short experience with everyone. We needed another radar detector for the second car. I've been using Passport 8500 for a year ...
Pros: Performance, Features, Display, POP Alert Cons: Expensive
The Bel Pro RX65 is one of the top detectors that Beltronics offers other than the Vector series. But there's one nice thing about the Bel Pro RX65, and that's that it's Escort bred. It appears to be a detector that will take over from the ...
Pros: Awesome detection range, POP Radar Detection readout feature, Detects KU band and software upgradable. Cons: Expensive, band new so u have to pay full price, not avalible on ebay yet.
This is a must have radar detector. I have tested it against the Escort Passport 8500 and it outperforms it in the Laser, Ka, and K band detection. It also get less false alarms than the Passport 8500. It also has a unique feature unlike any other detec ...
cannot use when driving toward the sun by cerious ,Oct 23 '08
Pros: size and cost Cons: detection and problem with false laser alerts when driving toward the sun
The radar detector is good, not great with regard to Ka band detection. Not nearly as good as the Valentine, but of course a bit less money. Big problem though when driving into the sun either in the morning or late in the afternoon as it sets off the laser warning alert which continues until the detector is turned off.
Good Detector - Poor Warranty & Durability by tx75088 ,Apr 09 '07
Pros: Excellent Ka band response and false signal rejection Cons: Poor durability and fraudulent warranty
I bought the unit brand new from a reliable internet vendor. It worked fine for 3 months then died. Receipt in hand, I called Bel for warranty service whereupon they informed me they wouldn't honor the warranty unless it was purchased from an "authorized" dealer. No where in their written warranty does it say that but it was clear from my discussions with them that the only way I would get them to honor their written warranty was to sue them.
So it was either sue them, trash the unit or pay them $85 to repair it. I chose the latter.
Now after another 12 months, it's dead again and I'm faced with the same decision - sue, trash or pay again.
When the unit works at all, it works better than any detector I have ever owned. However, Beltronic's reliability and warranty service is deplorable.
Pros: pretty lights Cons: over priced, turns itself on and off repeatedly, poor customer service
I have used radar detectors for 20 years.
When I purchased the Beltronics RX65, I was looking for quality and improved performance over my Cobra.
I was looking for quick detection of KA Band which is used a lot in my state. This detector was not as effective as my $130 Cobra. To make it worse, false K and KA alarms were common.
After a few months it started turning itself on and off repeatedly. I called their service department and they talked to me like I was an idiot. All they could say was unplug the unit and plug it back up which is useless.
I am sure the units built correctly are okay performers.
It appears I got a lemon and the customer service is so arrogant they don't want to deal with problems.
I will never purchase another product with this company and suggest you don't unless you like throwing $330 away.
Pros: worked great until.... Cons: See above comments
I bought 2 of these, 1 for each car and after 13 months, they both started turning off and on repeatedly for no reason, to the point where they do not turn on at all now.
I called Beltronics about this and they say you have to pay to return the item to them along with $60 for each one to repair.
I protested this, as both have done exactly the same thing and they seem to know there is problem with them, but will not admit it.
For the cost of this unit, I am appaled my friend bought a $99 detector, it works fine and has never had a problem in 3 years!!
Pros: Ease of use, shows multiple incoming bands, mute on power connector Cons: Price? maybe?
I recently purchased the RX65 after my 985 detector was stolen. I had reservations because I was so impressed with Bel's 985. Well, I wasn't left hanging...the RX65 is a good at detection (maybe better) than the 985 but has better features and a little easier to use (the 985 wasn't hard to use). For the die hard detector user, this is for you! Love it!
Pros: Better than nothing, if you have money to throw away. Cons: TOO MANY FALSE ALERTS!!!!!! Breaks twice in 3 years.
It's now 3 years since I bought this and it has broken twice. The first time I paid around $50. 1 year later it breaks again. It's in the garbage along with my opinion of Bel.
This is my first radar detector since the 1970's, and is used 95% of the time in heavily urban streets and highways. As well as an anti speeding ticket device, I figured since many police have there radar on all the time, it would also be a "cop" detector. It works OK in that respect, but there are so many false alerts that I find myself ignoring it. With the X band shut off I get POP alerts, but no followup normal alerts. I get laser alerts in residential streets. I actually see a cop maybe less than 5% of the time. I called customer service and they said all of this is normal. So much for "virtually eliminating false alerts". It's effective, but probably 90% of the alerts are false alarms, even with X band disabled. K band false alarms are as ubiquitous as X band used to be. It seems like other detectors cause it to false alarm too.
Pros: Apparently it's the best out there Cons: Mounting clip won't stay in the unit.
This unit has yet to detect my local police hub, which my 12 year old cobra radar detector always did. I have driven past many cops now and the detector has not gone off whereas my old detector would.
Also, the clip that inserts into the unit will not stay in after only two weeks!!
Unit should have come with a visor clip and a non-curled chord that isn't so intrusive and visible.
Pros: works well -- when it's not blinking "service required" Cons: service required
yeah, same thing here, "service required" after a couple of days. the tech support sucks. they put you on hold forever, and then tell you to ship it back at your expense and pay 75 bucks because i bought mine brand new on ebay. i never left mine on in the car for more than a few minutes with the car off.
I bought the Bel RX65 on Monday. By Wednesday it was was flashing "Service Required". I talked to a customer rep. at beltronics and he said that you cant have it pluged it for more than an hour if your car is turned off! I can understand that it wouldnt work if the voltage got to low. But if you pay $330 for a machine this small it shouldnt be having these problems. I had a cheap $120 one and it worked fine for 3 years. Beltronics needs to get this problem under control and clean up their act.
Service Required Message only after two days of use. by versatileunit ,Jun 18 '06
Pros: Not much fulse alarms. Cons: After owning it for two days a service required message appeared.
Like i said after owning it for two days a service required message has appeared. Has any body else had this problem? I am sending it in for a service this week anyway, but still the item is only 2 days old and should not be doing that. I have searched over the net and i am not the only person that has had this message and whenever someone else has this message it always occoured in the first 2-5 days. If you have any information or also had this problem pleas take a few minutes to send me an email. I would like to hear from others with the same problem. My email is jarrad@tpg.com.au
Pros: some reviews say it is the best Cons: lasted 3 days until Service is required.
I owned this radar detector for 3 days before Service Required is now constantly displayed. I do not know what I was thinking when I purchased this product since I have owned a cordless Bel 945 as well as a 985 and both had to be sent in for problems. The 945 stopped making the beeping noise, the 985 had an overall internal circuit issue and would not function and now the RX65 turns on a 'service required' notification.
When it did work it seemed have many false alerts - more than less expensive models I have used. I would not suggest wasting your money.
Pros: Awesome sensitivity on K and KA band Super Bright Display Few false alerts Easy programming Cons: Poor Laser detection
I have had all 3 top line radar detectors. The V1 1.8, The Passport 8500 X50, and this Bel RX65. They all have their ups and downs. If you are looking for the most consistant radar detector the RX65 is it. Less false alerts then the V1 and better features; like the display and easy programming. The X50 is the RX65's brother and they are very close in performance. But the RX65 has likeable features like voice alerts and a brighter display that the X50 doesn't have. NO radar detector will ever be able to save your butt when it comes to laser (most of the time) but the V1 is definitely the best at detecting Lidar bouncing off other vehicles followed by the X50. If laser is the biggest concern for you then definitely get the V1. The RX65 is also the cheapest of all 3. You can get them around 210.00 on ebay brand new. The range is great on all bands esp. KA band. You won't be disappointed.
Pros: Excellent features, Tech Mode is great! Bright LED display visible in sunlight, voice alert Cons: None found at this time
When the RX65 was used in the Tech mode, it gave me so much more information. By watching the RX65 I could tell which micro wave frequencies were Cop radars and which were K band door openers (99 cent stores) or vehicle proximity alarms. Almost all city X bands alerts are door openers here in So Cal, most near the same X band frequency.
California CHP appears to be using Ka radars, so far all are on the same channel.
Last week I took a Motorcycle trip from Sacramento to LA via Hwy. 1, every time a Ka popped up, the CHP was within a 1/4 mile or more. Very handy!
The voice option is very cool and useful. (read small learning curve)
Tech mode is the cats meow!!
Tested against a K-40 RD850 (owned for a year),
The RX65 blew it away! in the X,K,Ka detection department, every time the RX65 would alert first. As much as 5 to 10 seconds later the K-40 would go off.
Pros: Range Awesome, Display, bright high quality, Band detection/customisation awesome. Cons: I dont see any issues with this detection device, have had excellent results with it.
This radar detector amazes me everytime it goes off.. you will be hunting for the cop and end up finding him 3 mins later up the road. Awesome range, excellent quality product.
Good sensitivity, voice alerts understood, programming easy, little or no false readings. by yukoncorvette ,Apr 24 '05
Pros: Simple to use, excellent sensitivity, little or no false alarms. Cons: Expensive, and detectable by Spectre. OPP's in Ontario Canada are using Spectre.
Excellent radar detector, sensitivity is great. Very little false alarms. Voice alerts are easily understood, better than trying to differentiate between tones like my old Passport. Programming is the easiest compared to the other units that I have owned.
Unfortunately detectable by "Spectre". Here in Ontario, the OPP are using them. My uncle is an OPP and has told me he has already confiscated some of the RX65's, he said he picked them up from 4000 feet away. If it is Provincial jurisdiction, I'd turn it off. Too expensive to lose.
Pros: Good display and audible alerts Cons: Voice annoucement - too soft
Well, this is a very good detector with enormous good sensitivity, selectivity and extremely quite. What's more can I said.. Worth every penny and cents.
Beltronics Pro RX65 - a winner! by funkydaddy ,Sep 04 '04
Pros: Design, Ease of Use, Features, Autoscan Cons: Cost
I have been using my RX65 for some time and have not had a problem so far. I live in Ontario and have not been detected by the Sceptre RDD yet. (Bel does not claim that the RX65 is scepter RDD immune, so have I only been lucky?)
Pros: Great sensitivity, great false signal elimination, good styling, reasonable price, simplified window mounting. Cons: To direct wire, you'll need to buy a Bel direct wire accessory.
I just installed the Bel Rx65 Radar Detector... it is replacing my Bel 970 that has served me well. The new detector has some valuable features such as the "pop" technology (fast response to intermittent radarguns), automatic muting of alert signal after a few bursts, and very high sensitivity (actually was alerted of a stationary radar about 1 1/2 miles in advance). The unit has several programmable features, but I find that the factory default is just fine.
One drawback: the unit comes with a powercord that inserts into your cigarette lighter and that works fine... but I like to direct wire my detector. The RX65 uses a different connector type (because it has a remote built in to the power take-off) and I can't use the old power connector wired into my car, unless I buy a "direct wire" accessory from Bel ($27.00) and do a rewire. Not too serious, but a drawback.
All in all I'm very satisfied with my Bel Rx65.
