Pros: Warm mist is the only way to go. Big tank. Good running time. Quite quiet. Cons: The heating element is difficult to get clean. Hot! -- keep away from small children.
The Bionaire CP2550 is a mid-level warm-mist humidifier. It features a large tank, two "speed" settings and a medicine cup. This is my third Bionaire humidifier [also see my review of Bionaire BWM0400 at ...
Pros: Does what it's supposed to very well, and comes with two year warranty. No filters. Cons: On highest setting, will disperse all water in about 24 hours, though that's hardly bad.
The Search When I began searching for a humidifier, I came across many that were less expensive than this one. Their owners, however, always seemed to be complaining about how quickly they went through filters, and how it wasn't long ...
Pros: Quiet, warm mist, no filter required Cons: It began to generate sparks and smoke, creating unacceptable safety problem
We bought this humidifier because it has warm mist, doesn't require a filter, and is quiet. It's got a 2 gallon tank and two speeds. It At the higher speed, the tank will last about 14 hours of continuous use. The dimensions are about 12" wide x 4" ...
Pros: Quiet, large capacity tank, no expensive filters Cons: Requires daily maintenance, will eventually leak
Update: The Bionaire CP2550 worked great until it started leaking in the fourth season. The rubber gasket on the filling cap will eventually compress and leak. There is no way to tighten it. At least I didn't have a lot of water in it at the time so ...
Pros: None, really; too fatally flawed. Cons: Leaking; poor design; potential injury and property damage.
I babied this thing because I wanted it to last. It was no use. The water tank is large and sits in a tray; it has a large filler hole in the bottom, surrounded by a gasket. A cap twists into the hole. A second opening in the bottom contains the ...
Pros: Easy to use, hardly any upkeep, works well for large rooms Cons: A pain to clean if you have hard water.
I bought this humidifier last winter because our basement bedroom gets really dry and I was waking up with a sore nose and really dry throat. I wanted a warm steam humidifier as opposed to a cool air because I didn't want the hassle of having to replace a filter every couple of months. Our bedroom is very large and the humidifier only needs to be set on the low setting to effectively moisturize the air in the room (if left on high, it fogs the windows), which makes it last 2 1/2 days before needing to be refilled. It is silent and has a handy vapor medicine cup for when you get sick. The only problem I have is that we have hard water, so it gets a plaque buildup on the heating ring that needs to be scraped every few weeks. It is easy to do, just soak it in white vinegar for 30 minutes and most of it will rub off. I'm definitely glad I bought this model!
Owned 3 of Them and Not Impressed by skipirate ,Sep 22 '04
Pros: Hold a good amount of water, and fairly quiet Cons: hard to clean, bases cracked and leaked
I owned 3 of these, or at least they were very similar to the models shown. They are very, very hard to clean. And also, all 3 of the bases cracked and leaked, some within a year. I threw them all away at the end of last season.
Pros: Worked about 5 nights out of the 20 we've tried. Cons: Everything.
I bought this from LNT and will be returning it. It is very finnicky. The red light goes on almost immediately, which shuts off the unit. I have cleaned it and this is not the problem. It appears as though you have to get the tank perfectly on the unit in order for the water to properly drain in. I am not an idiot, but this thing simply does not work properly. It may be just this product. I had a Holmes humidifier with no filter for three years and loved it. I was hoping to find another humidifier without a filter and this was what we choose. I will be buying a different product.
Pros: Quiet, Large reservoir Cons: Not the easiest to clean.
I live in a cold climate and without the humidifier my house is very dry during the winter causing sore throats and noses. This humidifier works very well in my bedroom. It is much quieter than a Holmes and Honeywell humidifier of comparable size and output and requires filling less than once-a-day. It is a great humidifier.
Pros: Quiet Cons: Awkward for refilling
Leaks from an unexpected place (not the water tank)
At first this product was great. Very quiet except for the sound of boiling water and a gurgle when the tray refilled. Then I noticed my floor was VERY wet. After some inspection I realized, its not leaking from the water tank. There is an air intake vent on the side of the steam tower that the power cord goes into. Water is condensing here and leaking onto my floor! I unfortunately have to rate this product low and will be returning it soon.
Gurgling Noise - Not for Light Sleepers by romans116 ,Mar 03 '05
Pros: Easy cleaning Cons: Gurgling noise
Definitely not for light sleepers. The gurgling noise produced when the water boils can be bothersome.
I didn't think the noise was so bothersome during the day until everything else was quiet at night.
Nevertheless, I really liked how all the parts come apart for easy cleaning.
I can't comment on its durability since I only had it for one day. I'm returning it to the store today. I'm thinking about buying Air-O-Swiss warm/cool mist humidifier that's virtually silent.
No Good! Leaky cap after 4 months by mpaldy ,Dec 14 '04
Pros: Looks nice. Cons: Badly engineered.
a) the unit is very awkward to fill - you have to turn it upside down with the handle on the bottom. Trust me - I'm strong - a wrestler, and it was a pain.
b) the main water fill cap started leaking after 4 months. It's not a screw-type cap, so you can't tighten it to stop the leak. Instead it's a twist-lock cap which you can't tighten. Bad engineering.
Bionaire then told me to buy a replacement cap for $10.00. No way!
Pros: Operates effectively when it operates Cons: Leaks water everywhere and very difficult to refill (after the spillage cleanup). Defective design.
I have bought two of these and within a year both leaked requiring a messy clean up upon each refill. The problem is the filler cap which has a rubber gasket, but requires only a 1/4 turn to close and then stops, so that it cannot be made any tighter. Eventually the gasket gets compacted and no longer holds the seal. Do not buy one of these at any price.
Please Do Not Waste Your Money! by taichick ,May 02 '06
Pros: Quiet, good mist volume Cons: Becomes unsanitary after the first few uses because it can't be cleaned thoroughly.
I bought this about two months ago from BB&B and just returned it. I used it maybe 10 times in the two months and woke up each morning with a sore throat and stopped-up nose. I bought it because the Hunter cool mist that I have doesn't provide much humidity and runs loudly.
Trying to clean the hard water scale and mold out of the tower after the first few uses was IMPOSSIBLE. The scale sticks to the oddly-shaped green heating unit like glue, even after scrubbing with CLR. Bits of mold and scale get stuck in the very tiniest crevices and are totally unreachable, even with a toothbrush, a butter knife, and cleaner. A rusty-looking substance appeared around the fill cap and it took straight bleach to remove it. It became totally unsanitary after the first few uses.
