Pros: Great shave, good design/construction, cleaning system rocks, great value/price Cons: base station not wall mountable, plastic foil cover comes off easily
This review is of Braun Contour Series 5790, which I think is the same as Flex XP II 5790... I have pretty sensitive skin. Blades work okay but have always caused a lot of irritation, despite trying several brands and creams/gels. Also used a ...
Pros: -Price, good value.
-Options, this shaver gives you more.
-Nice feel, quality, accessories.
-Good shaves. Cons: -Cost of replacement cartridges, see full review.
-Trimmer works but could be better.
First of all, I did some trial and error, then a lot of research before I brought my Braun 5790 and it is the clear winner because of value, value, value. I work hard and like value for my money. One of the reasons I went with electrics in the first ...
Pros: Solid shaver, automatically cleans, cheap refill cartridges. Cons: Cleans only when indicator on, loud when cleaning, trimmer doesn't work.
I got this gift as a birthday present. I guess I hinted enough to people around me that I needed a new shaver, so they bought me one. After reading the box, I thought to myself, "wow, this thing cleans itself!". I couldn't wait to try it out. ...
Pros: Nice slim design and quiet motor, if it only shaved better. Cons:Stubble after 5-minute shave!!! Have to shave again with another razor!!!!
Norelco 360-GREAT - $39-49.00!!!

I thought I was getting a really nice razor for Christmas and had tried Norelco and others without great success. My last great wet/dry razor was a Panasonic, but it finally gave out after 7 years of use and I'd always heard how great ...
Pros: Self-cleaning, pivoting head. Cons: Cost of cleaning cartridges, side-burn trimmer a little tricky.
After the pop-up side-burn trimmer refused to push back down on my Remmington microscreen after only 1.5 years, I decided to go back to Braun. My previous Braun lasted 5 years and only needed to have the micro-screen replaced. The unit outlasted until ...
Pros: Smooth shave -when it works. Cons: Malfunctioning charging electronics on 2 different units. Faulty on/off switch.
I bought this shaver after using a reliable Panasonic wet/dry for 8 years. After all the ads for Braun I'd seen over the years I really thought I was stepping up to a high quality product. Boy, I couldn't have been more wrong. The feel of the shave ...
Pros: Full-battery-charge in ~4hrs, operates corded/cordless, 2~3shaves-charge, trimmer works well on beard&mustache Cons: Replacement-head >$20, non-replaceable battery, manufacturers planned-obsolescence of this product
I switched to the Braun 5790 System after receiving it as a gift and have been using it for ~8 months. I was using a Norelco rotary shaver for over 6 years, and other types prior to that. This is the best shaver I have used thus far. Now that I've ...
Pros: close shave, great on the neck! Cons: Takes a while to learn how to get all the hair on your neck.
3 month update: I though I noticed that the shaver wasn't getting as close as it was intially so I thought I would try my original wet shaver with cream and preshave oil. Big mistake- I was quickly reminded how close the Flex XP actually gets. ...
Pros: Nice design. The cleaning system leaves the shaver with a pleasing aroma. Cons: Overpriced, under-powered, unreliable. In short it's an expensive, high-priced piece of junk.
I bought the Braun Contour 5790 in January of 2008. I really liked the design of the shaver and the self-cleaning system. However, this thing never had the power that my previous Remington shaver provided. Although it was plugged in every night, the ...
Braun Flex XP II 5790 Electric Shaver by apbarker ,Mar 20 '04
Pros: Great shave; Cleans easily and is a pleasure to use. Cons: I see no cons and am very satisfied.
I bought the unit 2 weeks ago after buying my son an electric razer and trying it myself. His was a Remington.
This was the first time I bought an electric in 30 years and figured it would be sufficient to get me by on the weekends. However, I have discovered that I enjoy using the electric any time of day without any fuss. Also, I have discovered that it is more than adequate to my daily needs and I have not used a razor blade since I bought the unit.
It's a great unit and I have no regrets. The cleaning unit makes it look new and it smells great.
Pros: Nice look, balance feel and great close shave. Cons: Non that I can think of.
Replaced my older Braun shaver which I used for over 10 years, but only occasionally between shaves with my safety razor.
From the first time I tried this one I loved it. It is well balanced, fits well in your hand and does a wonderful job of shaving. I use it almost exclusively now and hardly ever use my safety razor anymore. My beard is tough so it's very hard to get a decent shave from any electric razor, but this one does the job.
It comes with a cleaning system which I didn't think I needed or would use, but I really like the nice clean feeling I get from it after a weekly use.
It also comes with a nice black soft travel case.
Great value for the money. Highly recommended.
Pros: not one good word on this shaver
Cons: lousy trimmer
cant stand the side on/off button
i have used braun models 5000 series thru 6000 for years until they would die.
purchased 5790 couple of years ago - hate it. hate the side on/off button. constantly turning it off while squeezing shaver during shaving -- then it catches hairs not yet cut... slide up trimmer worthless -- cant get close to sideburns with width of shaver... looking for old model 6520 best i every used..
5790 loose foil cover solution by gordon1948 ,Sep 24 '08
Pros: Good shave. My third Braun. Powerful motor. Cleaning system works great. Cons: No replaceable batteries. Factory battery replacement too expensive.
Remove foil cover. Flex it "tighter" with fingers, keeping both sides parallel. Pass one side of the top of foil cover over candle flame until you feel it start to "give". Remove from heat and blow until cool. It should fit tighter and snap on and off.
Pros: Buttery smooth shave. Cleaning system is great. Fast charge. Cons: Odd placement of on/off switch but you get used to that quick.
I love everything about this shaver. The closeness of the shave is something I have never experience before. I am talking like baby's butt smooth over here. I would recommend this to everyone. The side on and off switch does take some time to get used to but it is totally out of the way and does not accidentally get pressed. Also the trimmer gets a lot of complaints but I have not had any problems with it. I think its a great straight on, straight shot trim. The cleaner is a thing of beauty also. Just set it down in a beautiful "display stand" and when you come back it is as good as new and smells nice to boot. Personally I do not think it is all that noisy at all. Even if you consider the noise that it makes loud, it is in the bathroom and who is around to hear it anyway. I recommend this shaver very highly to any person with facial hair.
I have owned 2 Braun shavers, but that will be the last Braun shaver I ever buy. I bought it for almost $140 and both my Braun shavers lasted exactly for 2 years just after the warranty ran out. The switch quit working. If I pay that much, I expect it to work for atleast 4-5 years...DONT buy a Braun shaver if you are expecting value for the money.
