Pros: Networkable, Fast printing, Scanning, memory card reader, fax, copying, Simple control panel Cons: Ink costs actually high, Average print quality, Can't write to memory cards, Noisy
We have a small home office, and needed something for general printing, scanning/copying, and the ocassional fax. Having owned Epson, HP and Canon in the past, I wanted to try something else as I have not been happy with any of our previous machines - ...
Pros: Very simple to operate. Easy to install. Strong tech support under warranty. Cons: High operating cost. Print head failure
I bought this thing for the network capabilities. My wife uses this thing for her photo scrap booking and it allowed her to work in any room in the house. Also since she doesn't like to deal with new learning situations the simple use of copy/scan ...
Pros: Every function works through the network Cons: Slow card reader over the network
I've had this multi-function printer for 1 day and it is sweet. It is a replacement for my 7 year old scanner and my 2-3 year old printer. This review is geared more toward using the built in network capabilities of this multi-function printer. My setu ...
Pros: Sending faxes and scanner works good with Paperport. That's the only good stuff about Brother Cons: Print head malfunctions, eats up too much ink. Copier sucks!
I bought the Brother MFC-3820C and I loved it at first! It was such a great printer, and printed beautifully everything in color. My uncle even liked it so much he ended up buying himself a Brother MFC-3420CN which is the same printer except that there ...
Pros: Network capability, does everything pretty well for price Cons: Print quality not the highest, slightly noisy
My old laser printer was about to croak, so I decided to do some research on multifunction devices. I had decided on an Epson CX5400, and went to Office Depot to get one. When I got there, the first thing I noticed was a sign on this model that ...
Pros: Multifunction machine allows you to print, scan, and fax. Inexpensive to buy. Cons: Disappointing print quality, ink runs out fast; programming tedious, complicated manual.
I bought this printer through a TV shopping network about 18 months ago during a promo. It sounded much better than it turned out to be. First of all it's fairly large. You need approx. 20"x 30" space. I found the directions for initial set-up tedious. ...
Pros: It does most anything. Cons: Ink consumption.
When I purchased this MFC is was very pleased with it. The quality isn't the best but it functioned fine for my needs. Mostly for sending and receiving faxes and a small amount of copying. I used this printer very little approximately 50 pages or less ...
Pros: Quiet and fast. Multiple color cartridges for economy. Network capable. Fast 33.6 Kbps fax modem. Cons: A bit bulky. LCD screen is too small. USB cable not supplied.
If this machine proves to be reliable over the long haul, it will have a place in my home office for a long time to come. I purchased from a national retailer week of 10/27 for $228 tax. There is currently a $30 rebate available from Brother on this mod ...
Need to change ink often, but networking a good feature by dbroncos ,Nov 11 '04
Pros: This printer is all about the low cost compared to others with the networking feature. Cons: Ink goes fast and it can hit the pocket.
Need ink? This printer will run out of ink every 4 to 5 months with fair to low use (no heavy printing) It's not particularly friendly on the wallet, although, you can purchase each color individually so when you need ink it hits your bank account less. The drawback to that is a higher overall cost than you would pay for a all-in-one ink refill.
The networking capabilities is really why i purchased this printer. It is easy to use and I can print from anywhere in my apartment with my wireless card. I had a Lexmark prior and I liked that printer better overall for it's other features. The only problem was that it didn't have any networking features and I have four computers connected to this printer. It was also priced very competitively with the use of rebates at a office supply store.
Pros: A multi function printer with built in ethernet port at an unbelievable price. Cons: Broke in 6 months
Poor print quality
I was happy with this printer up until it broke. It scanned well and printed decently although it went through a tremendous amount of ink. After only six months of use the print head got clogged up. This is actually common to happen but on most printers the print head is part of the ink cartridge so when you replace the ink you replace the print head. On many brother printers the print head is part of the printer. The print head cost about $100 dollars to replace. That is half the price I paid for the printer. Needless to say, I will throw away the printer and will never buy a brother printer again.
MFC3820CN not recommended. by sbowers2 ,Feb 16 '06
Pros: Good connectivity. Fast scan for fax. Many features. Cons: Printer WILL NOT PRINT if any color is out. Ink runs out too soon.
Bought this for SOHO use due to many functions and built-in ethernet. Software must be installed on all computers that will use it. Manual duplex works when faxing if you're quick, accepts additional sheets in feeder.
Printer self-cleaning is noisy and happens too often. Since ink cartridges are very small, causes ink to run out way too soon. After-market ink from inkblvd caused print head issues, got error message that would not clear, had to take for service. Service tech said it's common with Brother printers. Printer WILL NOT PRINT if any color is out, won't even print greyscale via options with full black if any other color is out. For this reason alone, would not recommend.
Windows and Mac, unable to get to work with Linux. Linux drivers may exist now.
Brothers products are nothing but TRASH by crowmama ,Jun 08 '05
Pros: It's dead and gone and I learned to never buy a Brother product again. Cons: It's a big piece of trash, lousy tech support and service.
This is the biggest piece of garbage that I've EVER purchased and will NEVER purchase a "Brother" product again. When I made my initial purchase it lasted about 1 week, I exchanged it for another one which lasted 6 months, it displayed an "error" message. Brother shipped out a replacement which was a refurbished machine which was okay for about 3 months at this point it stopped printing magenta ink which is apparently a defective print head. I performed the self cleaning about 15 times and replaced two new cartridges which I ended up throwing away along with the printer. The tech support and his supervisor were both rude and refused to assist me. I was told that the replacement that they sent me (the recycled trash) was only covered under warranty for 30 days, even though I was still covered for my original purchase for three more months. If you're smart don't waste your money or time with a brother product, they don't care about the customer, they're rude, disrespectful and greedy. Hopefully someone else can learn from my mistake.
