Pros: Lots of ink, Scanner, User friendly (somewhat), Speed of printing Cons: Size, Scanning Speed, Faxing (not user friendly), ink expires
this is my first review, so it may be a little clunky. Anyways to the All-in-one. We've had it for a couple weeks now, and it's great. Picture printing isn't the best, but it working if you print the odd picture you want to show your friends. The ...

Multi Function Printer/Fax/Copier
by camaronut67 ,Aug 11 '04
Pros: Everything Cons: Good paper-wieght
Completely dissatisfied with this unit. It uses ink fast! It is always cleaning itself which uses a ton of ink. If one ink color runs out it renders the whole MFC useless and it cannot be bypassed. So if you run out of magenta ink you still cannot copy or receive faxes in black only! Even with all the cleaning, the print quality is very poor and slow.

Packing it up for the trash!
by nycx2 ,Apr 09 '06
Pros: IT'S G-O-N-E Cons: I wouldn't wish this unit on a con...
Can't stand it anymore! Wish I'd read the above reviews before the unit was purchased. I spent way too much money and time trying to get this unit work, cleaning print heads, buying ink, reading troubleshooting guides, and dealing with useless customer service before I decided to "chuck it" and try another company's product. I'm simply packing this unit with it's original stickers still on the cover into it's original box (haven't had it that long but once the warranty expired it's MY problem as the company told me)putting it out for trash. Glad to hear the sanitation truck engage its "crusher". Man, I am so steamed at how this unit screwed up my time and productivity....

Pretty good printer
by karlpinto ,Jun 17 '04
Pros: Features, Price, Looks, Efficiency (resources, space) Cons: Could improve software (system and user), Printing speed a trifle slow
Bought this printer from Amazon two months ago. I used a Brother 3100C prior to this one and was reasonably satisfied, hence decided to stick with Brother. The overall conclusion is that this is a solid, hard-working printer, good for a small home-office set-up. I use it satisfactorily for document printing, scanning, copying and faxing. Have NOT yet used it for photo printing so am not sure how it works there. It looks beautiful, does not take up space and in summary is great value for money.
PROS
Lots of features, low price, great great looks, efficient on space and ink usage, easy to set up and use, silent, flat-bed design
CONS
A trifle slow in printing and copying, unattractive (though functional) PC-printer management software, printer sharing software sometimes does not work well (my wireless laptop has problems printing sometimes through my main PC to which the printer is connected)

worst printer ever bought
by krazybimma ,Mar 28 '05
Pros: none Cons: All of the above
this printer eats up ink extremely fast.
If one ink cartridge is empty, the printer is useless.
The most I ever printed without going out to buy a replacement ink is about 30 pages(no joke!)
Print quality is horrible.
DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK

Outstanding Value
by rsbuddy ,Feb 14 '05
Pros: Document feeder, Fast, Sorts!, Scans fast, accurate OCR, low cost of ink per page. Cons: High power requirements, don't have computer on same circuit.
I have a small CPA office and this machine is an outstanding addition to our equipment. It has a document feeder that works very well and the copy speed is fast, as is the print speed from our computers. And I like that I can sort my copies. This machine is an all round work horse for us. When you fax it scans the pages in a few seconds so you can go about your business while the machine sends the pages to the recipient machine. Very cool. The scanner is another very well done aspect of this machine. When a client brings in a trial balance or financial statement that we need to make adjustments to, instead of retyping the whole thing, all we do is scan the document and do a quick proof check. The accuracy is outstanding. Color documents can be scanned as well. Controls are very easy. This is a high speed copier/fax/scanner at a outstanding price. Very happy with purchase.

Bad Choice in MFC
by hsdehard ,Nov 12 '05
Pros: None Cons: Every conceivable problem related to the ink/printing.
I had previously owned a brother black and white printer/copy/fax machine and had a great experience which is why I purchased the 4420 for both my home and my small office. What a mistake that was. Here is a beginning list for the negatives: Both machines constantly drank the ink at ridiculous rates, they would tell me cartridges were empty when I could clearly see they were not but yet it wouldn't allow me to proceed until I put in a new cartridge, ink is expensive, the machine won't work unless all cartridges are working properly, it cleans itself all the time wasting more ink, and customer service stinks. I've had nothing but problems with both machines. One of them lasted 5 mos before it had to be replaced; brother sent me a refurbished model as a replacement which then broke after 6 mos when they then told me my warranty was no longer valid. I argued enough to finally get them to agree to send me another refurb product which I certainly don't have high hopes for. Now my second machine is also getting fixed after about 1 yr of minimal use. This is not a good product.
