Fine camera, quick focusing
by skshaw54 ,Mar 30 '04
Pros: Quick focus, SLR feel, interchangeable lenses, low lag time, picture quality.
Cons: Of minor concern: Weight, White balance adjustment, inadequate flash.
This camera will rarely disappoint. The Canon lenses focus quickly and accurately. As a form Sony 707 user, the reduced lag time and quicker shots are a huge improvement for sports photography. The Sony was much better in low light, in spite of having ISO 400 limit. Sony's low light focusing system is unparalelled but this camera focuses well in most low light situations.

Flash is a bit inadequate and produces too sharp of a zone that is illuminated. With the 440 flash, the results are usually very good, even in near dark. I have found some inconsistency, perhaps due to shooting outside the flash's range.

Enjoy this camera. It can do almost anything you need it to do.

Best digital at under 1000
by mitch10 ,Sep 23 '03
Pros: Great images, great versatility, great speed, GREAT price!
Cons: Sometimes odd metering, kinda bulky.
I've gone through 10 different digital cameras in the last 5 years and have played with many more. I couldn't decide between the Digital Rebel and the upcoming Sony 828 till I saw a few images on a review site at 400 ISO. They were cleaner than what I was currently taking at 100 ISO on my semi-pro 5 mpix camera I had paid the same amount for a little over a year ago. I got what was probably the first one in the city available to the public and haven't regretted it one second! It take great pictures in even low lighting and is easy to handle. Nothing currently on the market comes anywhere close at the price and since the Sony 828 is supposed to at least 200 more (if and when it ever comes out) I am happy with my choice!

This camera has renewed my interest in photography
by twaller98 ,Nov 01 '03
Pros: Affordable digital SLR camera thats fun to use.
Cons: Not easy for a beginner, but great for a student or hobbyist.
I have taken bad to just OK pictures with this camera. I think it has great potential though, I just need some practice. I have only had it a week, and it has taken me that long to figure out 80% of it's functionality. Give me another week, and I will be entering contests with the pictures I take.

I ordered this camera with an additional Cannon 28-200 zoom lens, but the one that comes with it is a good starter. Be sure to get a filter for it though.

My two biggest complaints were that the 128MB memory card I had was filling up too quickly, and the camera has no ability to film movies, as the Cannon Digital ELPH 4.0 I had did. I solved the first one with an IBM 1GB microdrive, and just have had to get over the second.

One more thing, I have ordered an extra battery. It was not because the one it has went too quickly, (it lasted 3 days with the first charge), but because I don't want to miss a thing.

An excellent step into the DSLR World
by chevyiiman ,May 22 '05
Pros: Ability to use any Canon EOS lens RAW Files provide excellent quality Decent AUTO Mode
Cons: Lens Cost $$
As a SLR shooter for many years I fell into the trap of the digital convience with lower-end Point and Shoot Cameras. Although I loved the pros of digital I missed the versatility and quality of my old SLR. So I finally decided to get a DSLR and Canon 300D was the best choice. At the time of purchase it was right before the new model arrived so I got quite a good deal.

The ability to use all of my old Canon Lenses is what mainly attracted me to this camera. I have had excellent results with the camera, and as they always say its not the camera but the photographer who makes good pictures. The Auto mode is perfect for my g/f to use and the full manual mode lets me be creative with the camera.

The Best Choice for an SLR film user
by mfrost9133 ,Dec 12 '04
Pros: very little shutter lag, uses interchangeable lenses, long battery life
Cons: Pictures must be planned through the traditional eyepiece viewer. LCD only for reviewing
Up until I purchased the Canon Digital Rebel I had always used SLR film cameras. It seemed natural to move from the Canon Film Rebel to the Digital Rebel. It was the right decision.

I want to have full manual control of a camera and I am able to use the same lenses which I purchased for the my film camera, with the digital Rebel.

I just returned from a photographic trip where I saw the frustration of people trying to make due with a digital camera that was not SLR. They didn't have nearly the control that I had with a digital SLR.

If you want to transfer your skills from film to digital, this is the way to go.

Great BUY!
by stinkypete ,May 02 '05
Pros: Speed, Image Quality, great battery life!
Cons: Image downloads, Bright Flash
Once i saw that Canon had a Digital SLR for under $1000, I was game. I had been shooting 35mm slr's for years and had a small digital camera. I could not afford the higher end models, but did not want a point and shoot. the 300D fit the bill. Everywhere i went, it was sold out, but got one from Best Buy on sale for $900! In a nutshell, the camera is fast, shoot great photos, had a fast auto zoom and a nice feel. Using the USB cable to transfer photos is like watching paint dry - even with the smallest photo setting. It is dreadfully slow! The camera can become bulky and a pain in the butt after a while, but the included strap makes it s bit easier. I still want a small point and shoot because i cannot carry my 300D with me everywhere.

Finally, the camera I have been waiting for.
by jamesmack ,Nov 09 '03
Pros: Price, Image Quality, No Shutter lag, Inter-changeable lenses
Cons: Size, Should come with a large capacity card. User's manual doesn't explain compatibility of accessories
This is a great camera. It acts mostly like a real ttl 35mm camera. You get an optical viewfinder, interchangeable lenses, great picture quality, virtually no shutter lag and reasonable battery life. The camera body is a bit large, however, but it is very light. The user interface looks way more confusing at first than it really is. I have been very impressed with the image quality, even compared to my 5 mp cameras. For $1000, you get a camera and lens that is just superior to everything else on the market in this price range. I was replacing a Canon S50 that had been stolen. After using this camera, I am pitching all of my other digicams except for the Canon S330.

The Digital Rebel-Super
by dhrhodes ,Feb 10 '05
Pros: ease of use; wonderful pictures; works with Canon lenses from SLR Rebel
Cons: No CF card included
Feels like a camera in your hands; changing lenses is a snap. While a bit heavy with larger lenses, it is still a superb camera.

Great Camera!
by kenlo ,Feb 06 '04
Pros: Price, ease of use, interchangeable lens, really fast, etc
Cons: construction and color (Why silver?)
Stop reading this review. And go buy it immediately! This camera is really great for a great price. The answer of our prayers for many of us.

Maybe I don't look to buy another camera for long time.

Not a point and shoot camera, maybe for an enthusiast -to- advance photographer.

The easiest - and cheapest - way to get into photography
by jbeswick ,May 04 '04
Pros: Easy to use Relatively inexpensive Compatible with Canon lenses
Cons: PC software isn't particularly good Not as solid as the D-10, but $500 less
I've always had an interest in photography but this never really bloomed until having a digital camera. The point-and-shoot style digital never allowed me to produce the more artistic shots capable from an SLR. This has now all changed with the release of the Canon Rebel, which is a digital camera compatible with all the previous Canon EOS lenses. The camera has served me well in the last six months, and all the problems I've encountered have tended to be caused by my lack of understanding rather than the product itself. I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to take the next step to becoming a pro photography. Just make sure your computer is powerful enough to process the large files that it generates!

Canon Digital Rebel - a great camera, and a great price!
by flycyhm ,Nov 12 '03
Pros: Well made, well laid out, feels solid, and looks great. Fast too!
Cons: The pop-up flash sound a little cheap when it pops up...
Really like the feel, and speed of this camera. Shoots very natural for a digital camera, of course I'm used to a Fuji S602, which is much different. You cannot compare the Digital Rebel to a non-SLR digital camera, they are completely different.

If this is to be your first SLR, you will enjoy it, as long as you understand that it is not a point and shoot camera. With a little learning, and practise, you will be shooting like a pro in no time. All you need is to find an interesting subject, and and maybe you'll be selling prints, and doing wedding for friends (like myself)!

This camera completely changed how I view photography, now it's TTL! (through the lens, unlike a regular point and shoot camera be it digital or film) Anyways, it's a great camera, and you won't be dissapointed.

Best digital camera yet!!!
by jrspa5 ,Nov 30 '04
Pros: Lightning fast, affordable DSLR, beautiful photos, can't beat that combination.
Cons: To get the FULL DSLR experience you must spend $$. Extra lens, flash, & Memory.
Pictures are UNBELIEVABLE!!! With the right photo printer you can print photos that will blow people away!!! The camera's design is awesome too (in my opinion). All of its settings and buttons are placed perfectly. The camera is lightning fast when it comes to snapping photos, especially outdoors.

Everyone swoons over this camera
by myopinion38 ,Jan 04 '04
Pros: Burst shooting, long battery life, megapixels!
Cons: Burst shooting not available in all modes
This is a SWEET camera. I have been waiting to upgrade my first digital (Kodak DC-290) and I am so glad I waited for an SLR under $1000. This camera is awesome. I have never seen a camera swoon the crowd as this one does. The burst shooting has allowed me to get so many awesome photos I NEVER would have gotten otherwise. This is SO powerful. The battery life is incredible. I can't say enough.

Great camera to get into semi-pro photography
by serdar_tufekci ,Mar 09 '05
Pros: Affordable price for a professional camera, great camera, great pictures
Cons: size and cost (but this is standard for any SLR)
I hired a professional to take maternity pictures of my wife, which came out to be great. I found out that he used a digital rebel, which I immediately purchased again. I am still learning how to use the manual controls, but already took some great photos of my newborn daughter which would not have been possible with any point-and-shoot type of camera. It's "auto" mode is great if you don't want to deal with the manual controls. Obviously the only problem is the size (and may be the cost). But if you want great pictures, you have to have an SLR. The digital rebel is a great camera at a very affordable price.
