Pros: Fast operation, great picture quality, vast functionality, wide lens selection, dial function Cons: Small screen, somewhat bulky, plain design, loud mirror noise, expensive, 'lens factor'
The digital camera evolution is just about to peak this year or next and in the wake of such progress, older models become obsolete faster than one can make them worth the money that was spent last year. You can render yourself immune to such inflation ...
Pros: Lightning fast, improved AF capabilities, easy to use and change functions on the fly. Cons: The only one I can think of might be expense.
Recently a friend of mine who is also an amateur photographer came to visit. He brought along his brand new toy, a Canon EOS-20D and we spent the better part of a weekend taking shots with it around town. I currently own the Canon EOS 300D ...
Pros: Canon at the top of their game with a camera for the rest of us! Cons: The shutter is rather loud.
Having enjoyed a career as a fashion photographer for major magazines, my one concern with respect to the equipment that I used was that of achieving maximum quality in my photos. That, eventually, led me to using Leica cameras, with their superb Leitz ...
Background I didnt get serious about photography as a hobby until about this time last year. My dad gave me his old Minolta SRT-202 and a few lenses. After a few outings, the camera ended up jamming on me. I upgraded to the Canon Elan 7E ...
Pros: DSLR image quality, super fast response time, highly programmable, extensive system expandability, 1.6 magnification factor Cons: Somewhat disappointing noise level in tough shooting situations, flash and download software poor.
If you've been considering the Canon 20D now is the time to buy one. This high performing digital SLR has been replaced by the 30D, yet both cameras are pretty much the same, except for price. The 20D is now available for under $1,000. Grab it while you ...
Pros: Everything else Cons: "cost", bulkiness, software, LCD size, ISO noise, viewfinder cover, loudness of shutter, ADEP mode
Ok so I only had this camera for a couple of days as of the date of this review. This is my first dSLR but my second Canon SLR camera. I looked at the Rebel XT and the Nikon D70 cameras before even considering purchasing this camera. I loved the ...
Pros: Outstanding controls and picture quality. 8.2 megapixels. Extremely fast and nearly instant on. Cons: No CF flash card included. Heavy with bigger lenses. No .TIF file mode.
I began my semi-serious photography hobby back in 1969 with a new Pentax Spotmatic 35mm SLR, confined by finances to black & white darkroom work, and color slides. My interest in photography waned during the child rearing years due to job and time ...
Pros: Stunning quality, fast, well-built, professional level, great autofocus, excellent custom functions Cons: Errr..... it doesn't cost £50? Sorry but it's all I can come up with!
I had a Canon 10D and thought the world of it, a stunner of a camera, especially compared to the market that prevailed at the time I bought it. When the 20D was announced my immediate reaction was 'there won't be enough to warrant the upgrade for me'. ...
Pros: Speed, low noise even at high ISO, high buffer size, design, battery life, price. Cons: Nothing of consequence.
In less than a year, I found myself buying my 3rd DSLR. I started off with the Digital Rebel early this year. Whilst I still think that it is a good camera, I find it a tad slow for my purpose, which is photographing birds in the wild. After missing many ...
Pros: Faster Than A Speeding Bullet... User-Friendly Switches & Controls. Quality evident. Cons: Software Included Is Weak.
This is my 7th or 8th digital camera to date. I started with a half-megapixel JVC and remember being excited back then about its quality. I currently own three (3) Canon digital cameras. I switched to Canon (from Nikon) just over a year ago and ...
Pros: awesome exposures, black and white mode, new style battery charger Cons: loud shutter sound.Cludgy Canon software. It needs improvement
I've used Canon cameras for four years after switching from more than 20 years of Nikon film and digital cameras. I switched to Canon, first with the D30,then D60.Nice cameras but they had other issues the Nikon didn't .Such as: Backfocus and a ...
Pros: Fast, Solid, Inexpensive Cons: needs the faster memory cards to make best use of high speed shooting modes
Canon 20D – this is my daily camera, it is the camera that goes everywhere with me. In that role it replaced the Rebel. There are three good reasons to buy the 20D, firstly it is (relatively) inexpensive, secondly it is solidly built (without being a ...
Pros: Fast, sharp, beautiful photos Cons: None at all
Having started with a 300D, then upgrading to the 10D and now the 20D, I have been so pleased with each upgrade. The 300D is a great camera. It is missing some features that make it harder to work with sometimes but all in all the results are excellent. ...
Pros: Build quality, camera user interface, 8.2 megapixels Cons: Accompanying software poorly implemented and inconsistent with other Canon equipment.
I purchased the 20D to replace my Canon Digital Rebel. I was happy with the Rebel, though not with its kit lens which was somewhat poorly constructed, but I wanted a DSLR that would allow for larger size prints. The 20D arrived last week. I've been using ...
Pros: Low noise at high ISO,
Build quality,
5 frames per second Cons: No spot metering,
Small RAW buffer
I bought this as a replacement for my Digital Rebel. I wanted a DSLR that shot at a fast enough frame rate for outdoor sports, and that didn't feel like a plastic toy the way the DR did. Rather than get a 10D, I decided to wait for the 20D. I'm glad I ...
Pros: 8MPs, changeable lenses, fast response, great colors, good dynamic range, low noise in all ISO. Cons: Soft images, not good enough sharpness, no spot metering, poor (inflexible) auto mode performance.
Many functions and creative controls as expected from an SLR. Very good color reproductions. Image sharpness is much poorer than I expected from a camera of such caliper. I am kind of disappointed about the sharpness issue. Same pictures taken in ...
Pros: Easy to use, pro quality images, fast response, many additional functions to allow in-camera adjustments. Cons: Only 8 mega pixels, but, oh well, we're still thrilled with it.
After looking for AWHILE to find an SLR that would finally allow me to (a) make the move to shooting digitally without breaking the bank but still keep the integrity of good quality images for professional submission while (b) NOT breaking the bank as ...
Pros: Professional quality build, blisteringly fast startup and review. Capable of producing professional results. Cons: Heavier than previous models, requires the addition of the BG-E2 battery grip. Increased noise.
I recently took possession of the Canon 20D, the weight, feel and intelligent layout of the controls all came together to make me feel that this camera was going to impress. In operation the Canon 20D did not disappoint, the 5fps is, in comparison to the ...
Pros: Great Image quality. Fast Performance. Cons: No antishake on body, no dust prevention mechanism, flash underexpose
Introduction The 20D is my first digital SLR, and I'm very pleased with it. In this review, I'll focus on talking about the 20D from a newbie perspective, rather than talking about general info about this camera, which you can find in sites like ...
Pros: 5 fps, 8.2 Mpixel, RAW file conversions after shoot Cons: Better have a Big CF card!
I started my digital photography with a Sony Mavica CD-1000 and really liked that camera. It was a great starter camera but the shutter lag and lack of a full manual forced many "work arounds." In the 3.5 years I have shot about 9000 images with the ...
Pros: Fast, fast, ergonomics, handling, features, true photographic tool! Cons: Can delete only one or all photos, no selection option.
This camera rocks! Especially for amateurs seeking to advance their skills, this is the right tool. Take it from someone who went through several cameras to settle on this one. I sold my Contax NX film camera to go digital. I was very happy with that ...
Pros: Quality, capability, ease of use. Image Stabilization. Image Verification Kit. Cons: Price. Price. Price. Battery must be removed to charge- no a/c port on camera.
All of my co-workers are jealous. This is a phenomenal law enforcement surveillance camera. It starts up quickly, focuses quickly and with the right lenses takes amazing pictures. I was five stories up shooting through a slightly dirty window and ...
Pros: Build-quality, image-quality, handling, 17-85mm lens, menu, display Cons: Hard to get in 17-85mm kit form
If you have not bought this camera yet, then do so today, you will not go wrong. I had such a hard time finding one in 17-85mm kit form. The 17-85mm IS USM lens is great. I also use a 70-300 IS USM lens too. The Japanese build quality is quite good ...
Pros: Much sharper and can blow up images much larger! Cons: Screen on the back doesn't show correct exposure
I recently purchased the Canon 20D and I really love it. I am a professional photographer and I had been using the Canon 10D. The 20D is so much more sharp and vivid. I really love it. Plus it's a great price for an 8MP digital SLR! The only thing I am disappointed in is that the screen on the back seems to make the pictures look more over or under exposed than what they really are, then I end up shooting it too over or under exposed because when viewing it, it appears that way (if that makes sense?)
Pros: One word FAST. Did I forget to say 8.2M pixels? Cons: None unless you are used to framing with the LCD. This is a real camera.
FAST start up. Not just fast, but instant turn on.
FAST ISO speed. Almost no noise at 400 and usable at 1600.
FAST focus. Fast and more sensitive AF
FAST shooting. Short shutter lag. 5 fps burst for actions
FAST shutter. 1/250 sec X-sync, short mirror black-out
FAST write to CF card. Large buffer. No missed shots
Cambece loves The Canon 20D by jcambece ,Dec 02 '05
Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing
This is my favorite camera, I fell in love with it the first time I used it. Quality is awesome and its powerful, this is the perfect prosumer camera. This could be used for pictures of the kids or for the advertisement you have to make for work. From weddings to vacations it does it all and with a vast amount of lenses and accessories you cant go wrong, but I give fair warning if you like this camera as much as I do you will end up spending for than what this camera sis worth in accessories and other paraphernalia.
Canon have got it just right! by cpt_haddock ,Feb 12 '05
Pros: Just about everything. Quality of build is excellent and the user interface is just fantastic. Cons: Would like better weather sealing and resistance to the elements.
I've used lots of film & digital SLR's and this is by far the best. My dream camera 18 months ago was a Nikon F100. I decided to sell my Nikon film kit and turn to digital when Canon released the 20D because the specs were better than the F100 at a similar price. I cannot recommend the 20d highly enough - it's fantastic! Make sure you get the BG-E2 grip with it, the ergonomics are greatly improved.
What I really like about this camera is when you're shooting you forget it's digital. It's so intuitive to use and when you do scroll through the menus it's a breeze. Reviewing pics is fast and instant and no matter where you are in the menu system, half press the shutter and you're ready to shoot, instantly! Superb.
This Camera is great. Shoots great color. Bought a Sigma 18-50 lens with it and beautiful color. very impressed with it's speed and the BG-E2 is a necessity. The bottom grip for xtra batteries is very nice. Don't pay over 1500 for the camera, you should be able to find it for a lower price. be careful of no-name companies selling you the camera, and then trying to rip you off with their accessories.
Pros: Fast, excellent pictures, easy to use. Cons: pricey, but worth it too.
This will be my last camera. This thing is amazing. A monkey could take good pictures with this camera. It's fast, flexible, takes excellent pictures, easy to use. I gave it a real workout at my son's wedding, and everyone loves the pictures. It is rock solid, and the quality is so good I'm sure it will be the last camera I need to buy. I expect to pass this on when I'm gone.
a home run for both pros and advanced enthusiasts by speedracer2202 ,Dec 20 '04
Pros: Everything Cons: None
A vast improvement over 10D on auto focus, auto white balance, and low light (high ISO) performance. Superior image quality, and fast! It's enough to get long time Nikon loyalists to switch.
Canon 20D will reshape how you think about photography by pawdr ,Sep 28 '05
Pros: PICTURE QUALITY, PICTURE QUALITY, PICTURE QUALITY.Range of lens. Battery life. intuitive contols Cons: Cheap lens in kit, but good second. Not all 3rd party lens work well.
This camera is truly AMAZING. I have had it for 9 months now. ZERO problems. Tech support has been perfect (haven't needed it much). THis is a true PROSUMER model. THe range of options and lens is incredible, The battery life is unbelievable. I have sold my 35mm in ebay.
Great camera- tough as all hell by chrisruder ,Jan 08 '08
Pros: Tough as all hell Cons: Lenses are expensive.
I have had this camera a few years now. It's been to Thailand, Alaska, Mexico, Hawaii, and has not missed a beat. I am not gentle with my equipment (no lens cap, no camera bag) and this has held up extremely well.
Pros: Fast, sharp, very user friendly and smart, very smart. Cons: Yet to be found.
Just got one as a birthday gift (I know, what a gift!), but I've been reading about this camera for a while and I was wrong. The camera is ultra-smart, fast and takes extra sharp pictures right out of the box. I was impressed with the thinking about the design and ease of use, as well as some nice little features, such as the auto-rotate, which turns the pictures right side up when taken sideways. I've tried taking the picture upside down, but that made no difference.
The best digital camera in years !! by benwijman ,Apr 09 '05
Pros: almost everything Cons: the price is for the consumer market high
This is the fourth digital camera since the year 2000 and never I had a camera with this kind of shutter speed en automatic focusing (the best there is I would say) further the electronic stabilizer is a wonderful feature.
Pros: This is the FASTEST Camera I have ever owned. Cons: NONE that I can think of.
After having been in Semi Pro Photography for almost 20 years, and having owned over 30 Cameras I have finally found the PERFECT balance between an SLR and a Digital.
Simply putting it: This Camera performs LIKE A DREAM !!!!
Even in FULLY auto mode, it takes absolutely PHENOMENAL PICTURES.
Happy Canon EOS 20D Buyer/User by sarsfield ,Nov 10 '04
Pros: Ultimate digital image quality. Raw images. Thousands of pro and novice features. Cons: Haven't found any yet.
I just received my EOS 20D after paying 1489.00 total from Buydig.com (came with 18-55mm lens). (Excellent seller with US warranty and good customer service.) This is my first digital SLR but my second Canon digital. The build quality of this camera is beyond my expectations. I played with one at Best Buy but the one I received seems heavier and better constructed (magnesium body and user friendly controls). First few pic's taken are unbelievable quality with extremely low noise even in low light and using programmed AE/AF. This camera puts the Rebel to shame. Just compare the photos at Steve's digicams and you'll see what I mean. I thoroughly researches this purchase and all the hoopla about the firmware/lockup problems are overblown. I had a chance to talk to a Canon tech today and he confirmed that 1.0.5, if properly installed, took care of 99.9% of the problems. Those unfortunate few who may have gotten a lemon can return to Canon or their seller but I'd advise them to give the camera a second chance. You won't be disappointed.
Pros: Quick response. Excellent color. Easy to use. High quality images. Reliable and sturdy. Cons: A bit heavy. Gets dust on the sensor when changing lenses.
I bought my 20D about a year ago and have taken over 10000 pictures with it. It is sturdy, reliable, responds quickly, and takes excellent pictures with really good quality color. I have used this camera with quite a few different lenses and it performs well with all of them.
Pros: Fast, Prosumer level of Camera, Low Noise and Good ISO levels Cons: The extra battery grip has problems if you want the pro look and feel.
A very solid prosumer level Digital SLR camera. Comparable to prosumer film SLR cameras such as the older model Nikon N90S. Fast start up, great battery life, good fit in medium size hands and most of all finally a good size file for the price of the camera.
Pros: Instant on - high quality images - range of control Cons: it wasn't here a year ago
Yes I know I borrowed it from Highlander. If you had the money, which digital camera would you buy - the 20D.
It has everything you need - sure there is a difference between 23 and 40 images in an 8fps burst, but not enough for 90% of the people to notice it.
The camera is just the right size - fits the hand perfectly, everything does what you expect, how you would expect it to. The picture quality is excellent 8.2MP and with multimode operation for 'idiot proof' auto to full manual it is a photographers dream.
The 9 zone focusing is fast in operation and the turn on speed - 0.2 second - it is always ready before you are.
Pros: color, speed, ease of use. Cons: battery grip comes loose.
This camera does just about everything you could ask of a DSLR. The color is superb, instant on, 5 fps for over 20 shots, lightning fast auto focus and on and on and on...... you can't find more quality for under $1,500.
