You ought to be in Pictures!

by watchdr_2000 , Oct 24 '04
Pros: The convenience of having a photo lab quality printer in your own home.
Cons: Flimsy, paper output tray.
Well, I finally got around to replacing the printer that I gave to my daughter, a Canon S300. As I was very happy with that one, both its quality and reliability, I decided to get myself another Canon printer, only this time a much better one. The ...

Canon i960, The Choice for Non-Panoramic Home Photo Printing

by jstergis , Apr 15 '07
Pros: Print Quality & Photo Speed, Individual tanks, Optional Duplexer, Intuitive Driver
Cons: Paper Handling somewhat deficient, Slow Text Printing, Expensive Inks
My grandmother was looking for a new printer. Her Deskjet 670C had finally bit the dust. I was thrilled, as I hated that printer. I have a Canon S9000 printer that prints magnificent photos at very good speeds. She was interested in being able to ...

Canon i960: Is Third Time a Charm?

by immac , Jul 14 '05
Pros: The best photo printer I've used or seen in action.
Cons: Although they don't say so, it's still an ink jet.
The Canon i960 is my third ink jet printer. After the first two I was ready to go back to an IBM Selectamatic (or whatever those typewriters were called). The first ink jet, a flimsy Canon freebie that came with my new Win98 based computer, lasted a day ...

A few problems

by junkdk , Jul 11 '04
Pros: Fantastic quality output. Separate Ink Tanks. Borderless 4x6 & 5x7 photos.
Cons: Print head clogs quickly? Rough on 8.5 x 11 paper (non-photo paper).
First, I'm pretty happy with the output quality of this printer. I'm writing about the bad experience, to warn others, so they won't be disappointed like I was. All the reviews I read about this printer before I purchased it were outstanding. Here's ...

a great common person photo printer

by ro_bro , Apr 07 '05
Pros: cheap, fast, great quality photos, usb 2.0 port.
Cons: no usb 2.0 cable included. replacing all the color cartridges can be costly.
I've had this printer for about a year now, and it's served its purpose quite well! I have printed a lot of 4x6s and also a few 8x10s of great quality! One thing to note is that when I first bought the printer, it seemed that the nozzle was stuck on ...

Worth The Time

by fidelis55119 , May 20 '04
Pros: Unmatched speed matched with second to none quality photos.
Cons: Haven't found one after 3 months of use.
I have never posted a review because I don't ever want to take the time. Well, this product is worth the time. I am an avid amateur photographer and have used Epson's, HP, and now the Canon i960 to print photos. The easiest way to compare the i960 to ...

Canon i960 - Most impressive... and cheap

by partner444 , Apr 21 '04
Pros: quality, price, speed, ease of use.
Cons: maybe a problem with only a few photo sheets left otherwise no problem or cons.
Following the advice of Steves Digicam reviews I purchased this printer at my local Staples ($167+tax). It comes with all that is needed to set it up, which takes about 20 minutes of not difficult loading off the supplied CD. Let me first mention ...

Wow what a photo printer!

by jmparker , Mar 23 '04
Pros: Lab quality photos in less than a minute, PictBridge interface, photo paper tray
Cons: A little slow on text printing
After purchasing a 5 megapixel camera, I was looking for a printer that I could use to print great photos but still be able to use in a home office for day to day printing. After researching, I decided on a Canon i960 due to the quality of photos, the ...

Discontinued i960 still state of the art, if you can find one

by irite , May 17 '05
Pros: Same printhead as Pixma IP6000. Clear cartridges easy to refill. Fast, photo quality.
Cons: Not a current model, but still available if you look.
The Canon i960 is a high quality photo printer with 6 individual color cartridges. Produces prints comparable to photo lab prints, at a very high speed. This printer has now been superceded by the Pixma IP6000 series (uses the same print head), but ...

Warning: Don't use generic ink in this printer

by waycross48 , Jul 09 '07
Pros: Professional prints, simple setup - easy to use. You CAN use other than Cannon paper
Cons: high cost of ink, flimsy paper tray, CANNOT use generic inks. A Real Mess!!
I have owned this printer for about two years and during that time I got professional quality prints; really beautiful. The photo cyan and magenta do get used up quickly but they can be separately replaced. You do NOT have to use Cannon paper in this ...

Pros: Excellent Photo-Lab Quality Prints
Cons: Sluggish Text Printing.

Needs PhD in engineering to make it work
by gorkface ,Apr 01 '05
Pros: Good technical support
Cons: Doesn't do what it says it's going to do. Prints b/w as red.
All ink-jet printers are useless garbage. Canon's i960 is better than most, but at 4 a.m. when trying to output a job, it can be just a little irritating. This lovely piece of junk prints black and white photos a disgusting shade of pink. Text is black, photo is black, and I am black with rage. The web site offers no help but Canon's technical support is pretty good. They actually reply to your questions. Too bad I have so many questions. Like why doens't this printer just do what it's supposed to do?

It never works right and it takes agonizing minutes for you to find out. I often think the printer is turned off its so slow.

The only good thing I can say about Canon printers is the other ones are so much worse.

My Canon BJC-8200 printed better photos
by curley_joe ,Sep 12 '04
Pros: quiet, relatively fast
Cons: grainy photos, bad color on non-canon paper
I bought the i960 to replace my trusty BJC-8200, whose auto-feeder had finally stopped working after nearly 4 years of heavy use. With the BJC-8200 I had always used Epson Photo Paper from Costco (great paper at a great price), which worked great. But with the i960, this paper no longer works well. There is a magenta cast to the whole image, and dark shades of black are highly saturated with a glaring red hue. "OK," I thought, "I'll try Canon paper then." So I tried Canon's Photo Paper Pro, and I found that although the color was better, the images were very grainy, even on the "Fine" setting. For such a high-resolution printer, this is unacceptable.

I'm returning my i960 tomorrow. It's not worth the price.

Well worth the money
by sweettom ,Aug 24 '04
Pros: Separate ink tanks, sufficient early warning for low tanks, fast, almost indistinguishable from a lab.
Cons: None found so far.
I have owned this printer almost 6 months and I cannot find anything bad to say. Most people can't tell that my pictures were not printed from a lab. Of the examples that I have of pictures from this printer and ones from the lab, the majority of people choose the ones from the printer.
I printed tons of pictures before any of the ink tanks began to run out. The early warning on low tanks is extremely useful and shows up 10 to 15 pictures before it actually runs out. Some may find the inks and papers a little high in price, but you get what you pay for.
I have a separate printer for my text print jobs. I would recommend that you do the same. This printer was made for photos and it is awesome in that capacity.

Good quality, poor function
by hskr4life ,Jul 07 '05
Pros: price, quality of print
Cons: ink cartridge cost and lifespan, paper feed, two-sided printing is poor
Print quality is the only good thing about this printer. The colors are vibrant and sharp and the blacks stand out well on all types of paper, but it's down hill from here. If you think you're getting a deal with this printer, think again. There are 6 different printer cartridges and each one costs around $12. The life of these cartridges is very limited. I would estimate that after 15-20 4x6 photos you will need to start replacing cartridges. After about two months of mild to moderate everyday use, I've had to replace all of the color cartridges twice and the black 4 times. The paper feed is also a problem. I encounter frequent mis-feeds and paper jams, especially with photo paper. Don't expect to get good quality two-sided prints either. Even after letting the ink dry an extended period of time the printer ends up "scratching" the first side printed. When the paper feeds, there are often bent edges. The printer seems to have a problem grabbing the paper level. It does do a fairly good job of refeeding the paper on its own though.
