Canon FAXPHONE L170 Plain Paper Laser Fax

Pros: Crystal clear printouts, fast and relatively easy to set up.
Cons: A little bit larger than the four year old Brother machine it replaced.

We just purchased this machine about a week ago for use in our small Real Estate Office, and find that it handles faxes several times faster than its predecessor. Both input and output are great, and the clarity of the copies are sooo much better. We needed only one call for assistance to the Canon help desk-- which was handled with speed and aplomb. The standard setting for handling incoming faxes of a different vertical size than the paper you are currently using is handled automatically.It has many other programmable features that are straightforward and easy to change. We like this reasonably priced machine.

Pros: Hold a large amount of paper
Cons: Very high maintenance for a machine that is to be considered industrial grade.

Machine was sold as an industrial grade device to be able to with stand heavy usage for a business. During the four years of usage the machine has been replaced twice under warranty which Canon will not replace with a new machine but a reconditioned machine. Needless to say this was a disapointment to go and buy a new machine and then get it replaced under warranty by a machine that was taken in for reconditioning and sent back out again.
There are very fragile parts that can break if the paper tray is not removed and replaced carefully. The plastic arm on the door to the toner most generally drags or jams when opening or closing the door. This machine has had to be serviced approx. once a year just because of parts breaking.
