Pros: Larger LCD screen with enhanced resolution, loads of manual/creative photography options, AA Batteries
Cons: Some minor chromatic aberration (purple fringing) and very high noise levels at ISO 400
Canon's A series digital cameras have long been popular with consumers because of their incredible durability, exceptional creative capabilities, ease of use, and reasonable prices. The A80 was a virtually unchallenged Best in Class ...
Pros: Excellent picture quality, articulated LCD, loaded with features, manual modes Cons: Expensive, large and heavy, 4 AA batteries, noise at ISO 400, only 3x optical zoom

Pros: Price, Compact, Battery life, Excellent pictures, relatively easy to use.. Cons: Shoddy movie clips, NiMH batteries don't come standard.
After having a horrible experience with the reliability of my HP PhotoSmart 435 digital camera, I decided it was time to shell out a bit more cash for a camera that not only had a better reliability record, but also offered better performance. After ...
Pros: Terrific ergonimics, outstanding picture quality, versatile controls Cons: AA batteries (personal pref), no RAW mode
Last year I reviewed Canon's PowerShot A80 digital camera and came away largely impressed, except for two aspects of its design that I considered deal-breakers. The A80 took 4 megapixel digital images of exceptional quality under a wide variety of ...
Pros: 10x Zoom Lens, Compact Body, Fun Photo Modes, 6MP sensor Cons: Minor build quality issues, Poor Movie mode, NO Manual controls, ease of use issues
Strangely enough... despite all the digital cameras I've bought through the years, I still have the CoolPix 995 in my collection. I still use it every now and then... ya, really. The 995 was a pretty sturdy camera as well. I feel a tinge of guilt ...
Pros: Great pictures, high battery life, swivel screen, great movies, high resolution. GREAT PRICE. Cons: (These are negligible:) Large file sizes, you’ll need more flash cards. None serious.
First, this review won't be going into all the technical comparisons to other cameras - there are other reviews that do that better than I could, so I'll be sticking to why I've found this to be the best camera for me (and hopefully others) after using ...
Pros: Excelling I.Q., loads of manual controls, camera that grows with you, easy to use interface Cons: Some redeye, 3x zoom, autofocus a tad slow, USB 1.1, start up 2.5 seconds

Pros: First class pictures. Comprehensive features that allow user creativity. Articulated LCD. Price. Cons: AiAF a bit slow. Software average.
After reading a number of reviews of digicams around the £200 mark, I decided on the A95 due to it's impressive range of manual options and the reputation Canon have for quality. (This despite the "E18" scare)I wanted a camera I would be able to learn ...
Canon A95 Canon's A95 is another mixed bag from Canon. It's main goal is to try to be a G series camera for 300.00. In this regard it falls short in both speed and sharpness, but not by much. As with all P&S cameras of any price, the A95 poses quite a ...
Pros: Easy to set for your shooting environment, Clear, vivid shots Cons: None really, just smaller would be nice but with AA's its tough
I purchased this camera for my wife to replace a 3 yr old Nikon Coolpix 800. What a world of difference the 2 cameras are. I very rarely ever have to correct any of exposures taken with the Canon. It has a multitude of different programs which ...
Pros: small, sleek size, swivel lens, great low lit shots Cons: crap lens cap, few hard buttons, offcentre directional button, blurry flash photos, not enough control
I didn't realise until I number-rated this camera on another site how disappointed I was with this camera. I've had 4 coolpixes now (all swivel lens) (the 2500, 4500, s4, and now the s10) and I think I liked the first 2, esp. the 4500, the best. ...
Pros: Plenty of manual settings, excellent quality photos Cons: Purple Fringing and ISO noise at 200/400

Pros: - Manual controls

My 4th Canon, and still happy. My first camera was a Canon TX, a basic SLR film camera. I had a lot of fun with it in school (25 years ago!) and it took great pictures. Many years later, I replaced it with a Canon Rebel SLR film camera. Again, I ...
Pros: 12x digital zoom, 14 different shooting modes, 5MP Cons: Decreased quality in image on LCD flip screen, size of screen, repair department of Canon

Pros: Easy enough for beginners AND the features for the more advanced photographers. Cons: Low quality in the digital zoom, low capacity memory card, purple fringing.
This is a neat little camera! As soon as I got this camera in the mail, I started shooting right away. It is easy to use and if you are more advanced in the photography field, this camera can meet your needs. I just came back from the museum and ...
Pros: Long battery live; swivel lens; 10x optical zoom Cons: Terrible shutter lag; LCD worthless in sunlight

Pros: Great looking camera. Takes nice pictures. Cons: Camera frustrates and hinders impromptu picture taking. Missing many features.

Pros: swivel screen, easy to use, lots of features, sleek appearance Cons: slow, bulky, internal engineering problems

Pros: 5.0 megapixels, easy to use and download pictures, no special batteries required, fairly compact Cons: Flip out screen not as useful as anticipated. slow shutter response
I evaluated the a95 against the a70, a75, a80 and a85, as well as other Canon models. The a95 seemed to have the best balance between the number of pixels, the quality of Canon and the price. Although I'm not sure how often I'll want to blow up ...

Pros: solidly built (not fragile); swivel LCD screen; movie feature; great quality prints Cons: heavy, bulky, pricey (new), poor auto focus in low lighting

Pros: 10X lens can be twisted Cons: OK button does not work OK
I got this camera as a new year's gift for myself one year ago. The things I like about this camera are: the lens is the best part of the camera - can be twisted 180' and is 10 X. I can still remember how clear and close looking the pictures I took of ...
Pros: Sturdy, sleek design. Very ergonomic with intuitive controls and menus. Great pictures and great video! Cons: Does not come with battery charger or case. 32MB Compact flash is a little small.

Pros: Easy to use. Compact. Good photo quality. Cons: Slow shutter speed. Zooms in spurts.

Pros: Nice camera to have. Cons: 30 seconds of film - regardless of memory size

Pros: Excellent picture quality. The electronics and choice of options are just dazzling! Cons: Cheaply built. The camera is not going to last longer than a few years.

Pros: 1.8" LCD Flip Out, Scene Shot, Manual Control, Nimh battery, 5 mp Cons: More Noise, purple fringing
This time I give 4 to Canon A95, I was hope this model will be much better upgrade from A80 (I had A80 also). To be honest, I'm little bit unhappy with Canon how they make this model, why? A95 body look cheaper than A80 body that has nice shape and look ...

Pros: Wonderful pictures, cool movie mode Cons: Batteries run out quite fast, no rechargeable batteries supplied with camera
Am using the camera and I find that its everything that I need currently. Not too hard to learn how to use the camera. All the manuals a bit excessive at first better with practice
Found that the camera takes a bit of time to understand all of the features available. Manuel mode available on a medium priced digital camera surprising.
No case supplied with camera, even a less expensive one would be very appreciated.
Heavy and the camera has a defined sense of its self !
Batteries run out quite fast, no rechargeable batteries supplied with camera
No case supplied with camera, even a less expensive one would be very appreciated.
Heavy and the camera has a defined sense of its self !
Lots of features that I am still learning how to use.
Pros: simple to use and great pics Cons: flash does not go far and cannot add extra flash. little slow in taking pic.
I love this camera. I cannot reccomend it enough to family and friends. It is lightweight, has just the right amount of features, and takes excellent pics. It is simple to use but yet has advanced features if you really want to play around. I have used the black and white colors and even the sepia for a nice change. I love it. lag time btw hitting button and taking pic

Pros: Good battery life, fairly easy to operate Cons: slow shutter speed, some red eye, only 3x zoom
I got this camera for my 18th birthday and I would have to say that it's been great. I'm not a professional photographer so I don't really need to get the most up to date camera on the market, but I also don't need some piece of junk that you can get for almost nothing. This camera has all the features that you could want for the everyday consumer.
Pros: Great for all clean Pictures Cons: Need to read all instruction
This camera is great for a starter to use as well as the pictures it produces for a middle of the fielder at, I got much more sharp and clearer pictures then I was thinking I would get.I would recommend it. It has a movie mode it is great. It has a swivel screen is a major plus, it's 1.8". The automatic modes make it easy for anyone to use.
At 200 ISO it will produce excellent exposures out to 13 feet.
You also can cropped to zoom in on some pictures. You do need to read all the manual to get the best out of this camera to tweak it.. Good luck
Fabulous Camera With Tons of Features by saynotodell ,Oct 20 '05
Pros: Tons of features, great in low-light settings, vivid colors Cons: A little bulky (compared to ultra compact models), the shape of the case is awkward
The nicest thing about this camera is all the different filming options you have. This camera takes great pictures in low-light settings, and equally awesome pictures in daylight.
I took this camera with me to Machu Piccu and was able to capture some truly spectacular images. The greens of the mountains and the bright blue sky were incredibly vivid, and because this camera is 5 mp, I have been able to print crystal clear 8 x 10 that look like they were shot with 35 mm cameras.
The panoramic option on the camera is especially nice for vacations, the only problem is that it's hard to be very accurate when you're holding the camera. The panoramic mode would be best suited for people with tripods.
This camera has come in handy so many different ways throughout my traveling experiences. I've used it to film people dancing in dimly lit clubs, I've used the self-timer to take pictures of me and my friends, I've used the panoramic option for breath-taking panoramic shots of Machu Piccu, and I've used it to film birthdays. It does just about everything! It's a very solid product.
Pros: easy to use and function Cons: haven't found any yet, owned for 4 months
Love this.......this is our first digital camera and did lots of research on this site prior to purchase. I'm so glad that we went with this. I had planned on buying a much more expensive model....I'm so very glad that we didn't. We have everything that we need with this and more. Love it!
Pros: Very durable. Been dropped a lot and it still works. Cons: Eats up batteries like you own stock in the battery company.
A bit bulky. Like the way the screen swivels. Labels on all the buttons are clearly labeled. Bought this camera a few years ago and it was stolen. So, I bought another one. It has gone through a lot. Body is scratched up, battery cover is held together by duct tape, but it still works and kids can use it.
Pros: picture quality, swivel screen, uses AA batteries Cons: AVF slow in low-light situations, Occasional red-eye.
I think the quality of this camera for the price is excellent. I love, love, love the swivel screen. The camera has all the bells and whistles you could want in a point and shoot camera. I probably won't use half of them. The AVF is a wonderful thing except in low light situations, where it tends to take a long time to focus. A little frustrating when trying to photograph my 2-year old, whom much like other toddlers don't like to stay in one spot waiting for you to take a picture. Outdoors, pictures are brilliant. I haven't had the purple fringing problem, but I sometimes get serious red-eye problems, which is fixable with software. I haven't used this camera for video, I prefer my video camera for that, which las a much larger optical zoom. I would advise buying rechargeable AA batteries, because regular batteries run out too fast.
Using the A95 with underwater housing by harrisonlucy ,May 03 '05
Pros: The housing works very well with the camera and the software is very useful. Cons: a little heavy, lag time is a little slow but...thats all I can think of!!!
I already had a Canon SLR and decided that I didn't want to risk taking it underwater!! I bought the Canon A95 after extensive research on underwater photography websites, mainly to use underwater and I am VERY impressed with the results. I've already enlarged some to 8x10s and even after zooming in and cropping the original photo the 8x10s come out well.
Don't Risk the Dreaded E18 Error! by rling ,Dec 04 '07
Pros: None to make it worth risking your money. Cons: Camera may die on you at any moment.
Before purchasing any "A" series Canon Powershot camera, you owe it to yourself to do an Internet search on "Canon E18" so you can go into it with your eyes open. I have owned a Powershot A40 and A75 and BOTH of them failed (the A75 twice within a month) with the fatal E18 problem. I've wasted hundreds of dollars and taken a year off my life in frustration because I believed the reviewers who used these things for a few days nad prounounced them "good" when in fact there are hundreds if not thousands of people like me who got burned by Canon's lousy engineering.
Powershot A95: Great camera = Great pictures! by bertdasquirt ,Jan 20 '05
Pros: Great quality photos even after enlarging! Cons: Flash can over expose pics at closer range.
The Canon Powershot A95 truly delivers! Very simple to use, yet it produces excellent images. Don't pass this great deal up! You can't beat the price for such a nice piece of equipment.
Pros: compact size with high zoom Cons: long shutter delay causes loss of the shot
Due to kids that run as soon as they see the camera come out,I wanted a high zoom. I also wanted a compact camera and was frustrated my choices seemed to come down to sleek and a small zoom or the larger zoom with a much bulkier camera.
Nice little digital camera for a beginner by flipnotica ,Apr 12 '06
Pros: Easy to use for a beginner. Uses 4 AA batteries. Excellent pictures. Cons: USB 1.1 instead of USB 2.0. Slow uploading into computer. No power adaptor.
This was my first digital camera. I purchased the camera 5/2005 in a local Austin, Texas retail outlet. I bought it because I found it easy to use and packed full of features.
If you do a Google search on digital camera reviews you will find that this camera really scored some really high ratings. Just do a Google search on "A95 Specifications" to find that information.
Pros: Superb image quality. Low cost. Great to hold. Results make me look like a pro. Cons: The flimsy door on flash compartment.
I loved my kodak 4530 five megapixel camera and thought it was the ultimate. I then tried the 7440 kodak which was fast, very sharp, and great to use but had some "muddy" elements in some of the photos. I brought it back and lost $45. in re-stocking fee.
Not being able to afford another mistake, on my fixed income, I read many reviews of Canon A95, and knowing it had a great reputation,
I put my money down for the A95 and WHAT A BARGAIN. This camera is so good that I am still stunned by the superb image quality even after three weeks. I can't believe my luck that I got such a quality instrument for less than $300. To me, the image is everything, but I am still impressed with the build quality and beauty of the design. I will explore some of the manual possibilities this spring. Very little adobe photoshop editing is necessary because the image is so natural and sharp. The editing just puts the icing on a very beautiful "cake". Taking more than 300 photos I only had ONE with purple fringing. I edited it out easily with Adobe Photo shop
Pros: Movable viewing screen, Easy to use, Picture quality Cons: Slightly long delay after taking pictures (make be fixable - not sure!)
I purchased a Canon PowerShot A95 Digital Camera about six months ago after losing my A80. I've been very pleased with the quality of pictures it takes and am thrilled that Canon has continued to make models with the twisting screen so that you can easily take pictures at awkward angles. It is easy enough to use that I can let picture-takers of multiple ages use it with good results. All in all, it is a great camera and I highly recommend it.
Pros: LOVE the flip out screen Cons: Battery life short, but you will have that with any digital camera.
The camera has pleased me so far. Mine got stolen on a trip, but I liked it so much I immediately invested in a new one (despite the chunk out of the pocketbook).
Disappointed, surprised there are not more negs. by eagerfc ,Jul 06 '05
Pros: Flip screen, memory Cons: Poor picture quality, Battery life 8 AA in 20 pictures?
Only had camera for 5 days. Picture quality was low, digital looking, purple fringing, weak zoom, and massive battery appetite. Bought a Panasonic LZ-2. Could not be happier.
Pros: Excellent quality color pictures, tons of options, flexibility, easy to use; affordable Cons: respectable learning curve for advanced features; sometimes hard to see LCD settings in daylight.
After using an outdated, low rez Olympus for years, and after what I think was quite a bit of research, I finally sprung for the the A95.
From a high-level, so far, great. So easy to use in auto mode, yet so many manual options. Have only taken 2 photo safaris with it up till now, but I am not in any way disappointed. Got a great deal from Beach Camera, no problems, and despite my unfamiliarity with the features (so many to learn I literally can spend hours reading about all the capabilities) so excellent results.
Also love the flip-out LCD screen. Actually very necessary when using the lens accessory "barrel."
One of the best things I like is the flexibility. I bought with it a full accessory package of telephoto, wide angle, and uv/polar/indoor filters. This almost feels like a fully equipped 35mm. From closeups, city / street scenes to long wide/telephoto landscapes from a mountaintop, this camera has everything I need so far.
Pros: The 35mm film camera has been equaled. Cons: None.
I was in the market to replace my old Fuji digital camera and did quite a bit of research (here, on imaging-resource.com, etc) and settled on this new Canon model. I am extremely pleased with it. To my eye, the output is identical to my 35mm film Nikon, and that is what is most important to me. It has tremendous flexibility, good battery life and the screen and viewfinder is very bright and information-filled. This is a very good camera for any amount of money.
Great, but had a repetitive problem by erinchemist ,Mar 17 '06
Pros: long battery life, great picture quality Cons: hard to take spontaneous pictures, camera wouldn't power on, heavy
I think the A95 is a superb camera. It has great battery life and good software with it. The picture quality is great. There is a little lag time when taking pictures. I can't take a spontaneous picture. Usually it takes about 2 seconds after I intended to take the picture. The real problem is that 8 months after I owned the camera, it simply stopped turning on. I sent it to canon and they kindly repaired it for me for free while it was still under warranty, saying the dc jack went bad. 7 months after that repair, I had the same exact problem. I sent it to Canon again and they sent me a letter saying it would cost $97.56 to repair. After calling them, they were able to fix it free of charge, but I am concerned that this problem will arise again. Other than that problem, I think the A95 is a great camera with lots of features with long battery time.
Excellent camera...Versatility off the charts!! by shahin_usa ,Jul 05 '07
Pros: Image quality, optical IS, ultra zoom, excellent macro, good low light, small. Cons: No manual white balance; but Nikon is god of metering, so not a problem!
My decision to purchase the Nikon S-10 was based on the need for a compact camera with the ability to deliver excellent image quality in a wide variety of situations. Although there are a lot of superb cameras with the capabilities for excellent macro photography, low lighting, difficult lighting, ultra zoom, and TRUE image stabilization none are nearly as small as the Nikon S-10. Its hard to believe that Nikon has been able to put so much capability into such a tiny (relatively speaking!) package. With the S10 I have been able to take amazing photos in situations that would challenge most other cameras; and I should know-I have owned seven other digital cameras!
Pros: 9 point AF, build quality, image quality Cons: a bit more red eye than I would have expected. CF door flimsy.(so?)
Bought this to replace a 3MP Kodak. No comparison whatsoever! The Canon's build quality, image quality and options rival those of a much more expensive camera.
14 shooting modes including aperture/shutter priority give me a lot of shooting options. I happen to LIKE the AA batteries....get the MAHA charger with Powerex 2300mAh batteries and you're SET! You can always keep a spare set of charged batteries in the case.
A terrific digital camera by avatar2025 ,Dec 16 '04
Pros: Easy to use, rich and true colors, excellent detail, strong flash, large LCD viewer Cons: Alkaline batteries (recommend rechargable NiMH instead), 32MB flash card too small
The A95 is my first digital camera. The documentation with it is formidable but easy to follow. Even without going through every page and detail I was able to load (batteries and flash card), shoot some test photos, and download them from the flash card and the USB connection, all in less than 30 minutes.
The picture quality is excellent...looks like 35mm to my eye. The colors are rich and true.
I spent considerable time researching this first digital camera purchase. I made the right choice.
Buy Canon at your own risk by lowdown100 ,Dec 18 '04
Pros: Nothing good about the Canon company,,,Oh it works for a while Cons: Hey it's your money..Buy anything but Canon
All I can say is when you've spent $300 and the camera fails with the E18 message. Canon will do little than overcharge to fix it,
They will accuse you of abusing it,,They have the worst service and the worst appreciation for their customers..
Go buy and spin the roulette wheel, Canon just denies it is every their product,,Lots of money for camera that may last one year
Canon is a great camera and every one should have one. by adnankhan18 ,Feb 17 '05
Pros: Excellant lens gives a great photo combined with ease of use. Cons: this is portable and i can use anywhere its functions matches the price it has
The canon camera is very nice and i am very fond of these cameras. I and my family all own canon camera. I have used most of the compact camera but this camera is an exceptional.
Amazing Camera for the Price!!! by lyds4 ,Nov 11 '04
Pros: The LCD, 14 shooting modes, and manual operation options make this camera a great buy! Cons: The camera eats batteries (with LCD use); included flashcard is too small for enthusiasts.
This was my first digital camera purchase, and I couldn't be happier! Aside from its impressive 5MP, the LCD allows you to preview the picture you're about to take with incredible accuracy. I love the Sepia tone and B&W options, along with fluorescent, tungsten, day-time, and cloudy options. You can play with shutter speed, and aperture (after reading the manual). I took my camera to the zoo, and the pictures came out flawlessly. Transferring the images to my computer was beyond easy!
Cons: The camera is powered by 4 AA batteries, which go VERY quickly if you use the LCD regularly. Additionally, the camera only comes with a 32MB CompactFlash card, which equates to a meek 12 pictures at full resolution. I had to purchase a larger flashcard (I would recommend a 512MB if you plan on doing a lot of shooting). Also, photos taken with the digital zoom turn out grainier than those taken with the optical.
Overall, the functionality, features, and quality of the camera far exceed the cost! This is an excellent choice for photography enthusiasts who may be more along the amateur stage.
Pros: Great pics, many picture modes, battery life, size Cons: Only 3x zoom, shutter lag
This is an amazing camera. I bought one for my son for a skiing trip in Switzerland. Liked it so much that I bought one for myself. Took up on the slopes. Pictures were almost as good as my Canon Digital Rebel. I always carry a camera with me, and this one is small enough to take almost anywhere. Not as powerful as Digital Rebel, but good for most daily shots. I would recommend this for photographers who want to be ready to take pics at all times, but don't want to carry SLR all the time. Since I owned a Canon Digital Rebel, the A95 was extremely easy to learn as it has most of the picture modes of the SLR plus some. Really nice to use in Manual mode as can see on screen the effects of changing speed and aperture. I wish the Digital Rebel had that feature.
Pros: Good picture quality, strong and durable Cons: Very long shutter lag.
I have had my A95 for a year and a half now. It is a very decent camera. Although 5.0 megapixels isn't the greatest anymore like it was when I got it, I think the pictures turn out great.
I have to say this is also one robust camera. I took it along with me to Europe for vacation. I accidentally dropped it on cement floor from about 3 feet off the ground. It dented the top of the camera but it still works great. (Kinda hurts the resale value though).
Also, I would not recommend this camera if you are one to take quick snapshots. There is about a 4-5 second lag between when you push the button and when the picture is taken.
Pros: Easy to use, takes great pictures, not real expensive Cons: Owners manual in Spanish,French, and some other languages.
I shopped around, quite a bit for a digital camera and I couldn't be more happy with the Canon A95. It takes awesome photos and is very easy to operate.
Pros: good quality pictures, many features Cons: a little heavier than some digitals
I am very happy with the A95. I researched digitals for many months before purchasing. It has many features, so it does require reading the booklet to utilize them, but it's also easy to use as a point and shoot.
The Camera That Can Make Anyone a Photographer by tabascosauce08 ,Aug 21 '08
Pros: Swivel screen, great photo quality, high resolution, 14 different shooting modes Cons: A bit bulky, battery life runs out quite fast, memory card capacity
After becoming annoyed with the lack of justice a 1.5 megapixel camera provided me and becoming increasingly interested in digital photography, I decided to opt out my FujiFilm FinePix1300 for the Canon Powershot A95. What I got was a whole lot more bang for my buck.
Pros: great pictures, great flash, 14 shooting modes, big screen, uses AA batteries. Cons: If you use the screen a lot it drains the batteries.
My mom gave the Cannon A95 to me and my husband for a wedding present. We just love it!! We used it at the wedding and the honeymoon. We also love the fact that it takes video. I use it everyday.

Pros: inexpensive and widely available memory & batteries Cons: can't disable the flashing light on front of camera in self-timer mode
Extremely pleased with this camera. Exposure control from completely auto to completely manual allows one to grab a quick snapshot or utilize advanced photography techniques.
Images require very little tweaking in Photoshop. Color is dead-on, sharpness is above average from my experience with digitals.Small enough to keep with you at all times for those unexpected photo opportunities.
I like doing candid street photos in available light, composing the photo and letting the self-timer do the work while I look away in a "non-chalant" manner. The flashing beam on the front of the camera during the self-timer delay can be a give-away. I have, however, purchased a package of stick-on dots from an office supply store (used for color-coding files) to place over the lamp -- problem solved.
I'm having fun with this camera, creating some great images, and exploring it's capabilities. You'll have fun doing the same ... get it without hesitation.
