Pros: Price, Ease of use, quality of photos. Cons: None here
The printer is a very good all around printer. The main thing I like about it is it has color is divided up into its own cartridge, this means that if you run out of one color, you don't have to go out and buy a whole new color cartridge. It is also...
Pros: Excellent quality of photo when everything functioning as it should.
Cons: Constant maintenance required. Print heads guaranteed to fail eventually, and too costly to replace.
We bought this printer specifically to print photos from our digital camera. When we first started using it we were ecstatic with the quality compared to our old color inkjet. Pictures were crisp, and clear, and it printed the same way consistently. ...
Pros: Borderless prints Cons: Prints fade badly. Canon will refund for printer, ink or unused paper
I purchased the Canon S820 Color printer because they advertised they tested for good color for 20 years. I also was impressed with the color using the six ink tanks for the good color rendition, and then I had a problem until they told me that I had to u ...
Pros: Beautiful prints, fast, quiet operation, nicely styled Cons: Print head designed poorly and very expensive to replace. Prints fade quickly.
I bought this printer because it makes beautiful photos and because epson puts chips in its ink tanks so you can't refill them.
Now I am really pi ssed off because the ink head has gone bad one month after warranty expiration. The black text never printed well and now I realize that the ink head all along had problems. I am printing my text in blue and it looks clearer than the black ever did. Canon is very unsympathetic and not willing to keep a customer happy.
Pictures do fade surprisingly fast.
Printer is quiet and fast.
Software interface has very limited controls on Mac OS 9.2
Maybe I just had bad luck with this particular printer but from my search of the internet lots of other people have had this problem with their print heads, particularly black. The replacement head is $80 which is almost as much as the printer.
I heard a rumor that you can get a lifetime warranty on the printhead, if thats true that would be a good idea.
Ruined my image of Canon quality by lkphillips ,Jun 12 '04
Pros: Low cost, multi color ink tanks, high resolution Cons: Pictures FADE FAST (in approximately 3 months), low hardware quality, low print head life
Ive been a long time Canon product fan until I bought this printer. The pictures fade FAST! Even if you use Canon ink and Canon high quality paper the photos only last about 3 months before fading. The worst part about this is seeing my yellowish discolored photos still tacked up on my parents refrigerator.
After 9 months of very light use the inks started leaking. Bought a new print head which cost almost as much as the printer. Problem solved for a while then the whole thing died - No power.
Advice: Dont buy it and if you bought it then pitch it in the garbage at the first sign of trouble. Its not worth the hassle.
Worked great ... for a short time by mniceman ,Jul 22 '04
Pros: Nice images Cons: Not reliable. Noisy.
I bought this printer at a retail store for $85 USD. It produced really very nice looking borderless 4X6s on Canon's paper - rarely got them to look as nice on other brands of paper.
I usually love Canon's quality, but this printer was an exception. It began to complain about the "paper thickness lever" setting almost right away, the print head never seemed to work quietly - or properly. This printer worked well until it no longer functioned with the paper thickness setting and wouldn't print AT ALL properly after that.
It always seemed to do a lot of extra "gyrations" too and was noisy.
I returned it and bought an EPSON 820 instead -- so far, so good.
Looks great at first but beware! by duncanidaho ,Sep 22 '03
Pros: Excellent photo quality, speed, ease of use. Cons: Horrible longevity of prints, customer service
This printer produces some of the best quality photo prints I have ever seen but they begin to fade when exposed to air. Yes, air! In about three months you will have completely orange photos! I have only used Canon ink and Canon paper.
Canon will not provide any satisfaction when you bring this to their attention. They claim your prints should be kept under glass at all times.
I don't expect the prints to last 25 years when left in the open but two/three months is unreasonable.
Unless you plan on putting every photo in an album or frame be prepared for all those cute baby pictures you sent grandma that she put on the fridge to fade terribly!
Bought this to replace my old HP.
Use it just for digital photo printouts with
Canon glossy paper and canon ink.
Has given outstanding results I think it is only limited to the 3.3 megapixel camera I use.
Easy to install Easy to use.
I have had no technical problems.
Phot ink cartridges last for about 150 4 by 6 prints.
Giving lifelike results.
It is not cheaper than a photolab at Sams. And the digital photo is about 97% as good as lab pictures.
I am all round impressed with a printer that cost $50.00 brand new.
I choose this over HP as the ink seems cheaper and you can replace individual tanks.
Canon are different to HP in that the printer head is seperate from the cartridge which makes for cheaper replacements.
I bought the Canon S-820 to replace my Epson Stylus C-80. The Epson was a good entry level printer but I wanted to move up to a better " Photo Printer " & the Canon has not let me down. The results have been spectacular! I have to give some credit to my Nikon 5700 for the great images it records & this printer accuratly reproduces thise images.
My son is a photographer,... by nancy_dt3002 ,Mar 27 '03
My son is a photographer, we bought this copier to do his prints. We have been very happy. I can't find Canon paper so we use Epson photo paper. Other papers make inferior copies

DOES A COMMENDABLE JOB ON PRODUCING TEXT. AN ABSOLUTELY FANTATSTIC JOB ON PRODUCING PHOTOS. ITS HARD TO TELL THE OUTPUT OF THE S820 FROM PHOTO LAB PRINTS. WOULD RECOMMEND THIS MACHINE WITHOUT RESERVATION. CANT FIND SUPPLIES FOR THIS MACHINE AT LOCAL CANON RETAILERS. CANON ITSELF WAS OUT OF STOCK ON BLACK INK.
