Pros: Value, features Cons: Display, quality/ reliability questionable
I've had this unit for about a year. I like the Bass-Engine feature (selectable Bass and Treble Frequencies, Subwoofer control, etc...), the CD player sounds fine (nothing wrong with it, but nothing spectacular either). Since manufacturing has gone to ...
Pros: Sound , EQ/bass/sub out/XM controls, others to list! Cons: High-gloss display hard to read in daylight.
Although I've been a Clarion buyer/user for years, Alpine at least offers XM Radio compatibility. I replaced my last Clarion DVD/CD player (DVS9755z with built-in DTS/Dolby Digital) for this unit and the Alpine AI-Net XM tuner. I must say that I am ...
I bought this to replace the factory sound in my 87 Volvo, which was still hanging in there well, but I wanted CD. Looked at a few different brands and actually had decided on a Premier (Pioneer)unit, until a friend urged me to look at the Alpine. It ...
Pros: Display, Layout, POWER, Functionality, Strength, Quality, and Sound! Cons: None as of yet!
For around 200 dollars you can get this alpine unit in your car playing your favorite CDs! I was reluctant at first. I've always been a huge fan of Pioneer, but I realized that pioneer is just a rip off and it's not what I really wanted. First off this ...
Pros: FM reception, sound quality, antenna control, CD position memory, clock. Cons: difficult to control advanced functions
I bought his unit to replace a Toyota factory installed cassette deck. I wanted to get rid of cassettes, play Mini Discs and CDs. I also wanted more and cleaner power. The moment I turned the Alpine on I was blown away. Sound quality is as good as a d ...
Pros: Excellent sound, great versatility Cons: Lights are a little dim
I tend to be fairly skeptical and critical. I'd like to think I have high expectations. I deplore salespeople and believe about half of what they tell me. So I did a fair amount of research first. The Alpine 9805 has won me over completely. It's...

Im very upset that they wont reply to emails,I boughtanother alpine ,one step lower but not satellite ready i was hoping that alpine would help me getting this fixed because of their reputation which to me stinks right now ill try to call them tomorrow 10/13/05 and pose my?to them, then I will write another review on their service
Pros: Super value, excellent clarity, auxilliary input Cons: none
Just installed Alpine CDA-9805 as replacement for GM head unit and upgraded the OEM rear speakers with Alpine SPS 690A 6" x 9". Wow. Hearing voices and detail that has been missing in my mobile audio. The MX (media expander) adds a great deal of richness. Super value.
Can use the Aux Input for a Delco Roady XM receiver or add Alpine XM tuner.
Installing the 7" deep DIN unit in a 5.75" deep DIN 1/2 opening was an interesting exercise requiring a bit of fitting, but the Metra installation kit worked and looks fine.
What a great unit for a great price!! by johngp ,Oct 28 '03
Pros: Good looking unit, detachable face, very clean sound, potent 23wpc, inexpensive. Cons: None so far, wonderful head unit.
This is a great head unit! I found it online for $144 at hookedontronics. I had a kenwood(not sure which model)prior to this. After having this unit installed I was shocked, the sound quality is top notch, the tuner is great and the unit its self is very easy to use. I am very happy with Alpine and this unit but if I had to do it over again I probably would have gone ahead and bought one of the higher end head units such as the 9811 etc. If your considering one of the less expensive Alpine decks you can't go wrong with this baby!
This was installed in a 93 Ford Explorer prior to a trip to Destin, FL (gotta have good sound for a road trip). Also had Infiniti 6x8 speakers (previously purchased). It sounded awesome until my wife totaled the vehicle yesterday. I don't go for lots of excess features. The volume knob is also a push-button activator to cycle through balance/fade/etc. I bought this because of the Alpine reputation and because it had an auxiliary input line so I could also plug a walkman cassette player and listen to books on tape for the kids. When you turn off the car with a CD playing, it will start playing exactly where you were when you start the car again. The infiniti speakers didn't sound too good running off the original factory radio, but they sounded awesome with the Alpine and a CD. Highly recommend this in the $175 - 200 range - a steal. Now all I have to do is go to the junk yard and salvage it before they send my Explorer to truck heaven.
