Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Easy to handle, roomy, comfortable, dual sliding doors, reliable.
Cons: DVD can block view.
The Bottom Line: Our 2005 Ford Freestar has served our family well, with virtually no problems.

We were happy with our 2002 Ford Windstar so when the lease was up, we returned to our Ford dealer to see what minivans they were currently offering. They no longer made the Windstar and replaced it with the Freestar so we looked at it, took it for a ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Good value, very comfortable ride, good controls, room to spare, competent at towing
Cons: Too many chimes, DVD screen blocks rear view, middle row seat removal, front headrests uncomfortable
The Bottom Line: This is a great family hauler and we fully intend to keep it for 100,000 or more so-far-trouble-free miles. Its safe, powerful, comfortable, versatile, and a good value.

Review is for a 2005 Ford Freestar Limited with 4.2L engine and 4-speed automatic transmission. It is fully loaded with all the major options, including stability control, side air bags, DVD player, etc. This was my company lease vehicle last year and ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great value
Cons: The fuel economy isn't as good as some other minivans.
The Bottom Line: Not everybody needs the same thing, but this is a great value.

I've had my Freestar a week, and I'm really pleased. I read the reviews, and I don't disagree that the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna could be superior vehicles. But at least in my neck of the woods (Eastern Canada) at this moment in time, the 2005 ...

Highly competent minivan

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Good comfort, visibility and power
Cons: Explaining the mediocre reviews to my friends
The Bottom Line: This minivan is the most competent and capable vehicle I've ever owned.

A word about gas mileage - I'm running the 4.2L V6...Fuel use when brand new started out a bit on the low side at 22MPG (Imperial Gallons) on the highway. My most recent road trip recorded 31MPG over a 1300km trip in BC. Not bad at all for a not-so-mini ...

Ford Freestar 2005 SE Model

Pros: There are no pros as far as I'm concerned.
Cons: Don't buy this van!  Don't buy this van!
Don't ever buy one of these vans.  Mine has 106 000 Km and my computer needs replacing because it was full of water!  The worst part is that I still have an emmissions warranty up to 130 000 Km but Ford won't honor the warranty because of water damage.  I guess its my fault for leaving the vehicle outside!  My cost is going to be close to 900$.  I've never heard of a problem like this.  No one I know has ever heard of this type of problem.

The dealership is telling me tha the new computer is under warranty for one year or 20 000 Km.  Water damage included?  This basically means I have to bring the vehicle to a bodyshop to discover where the water is coming from.  To find out where the water leak is they have to run water on the van until they can physically see the leak!  Isn't irony beautiful?

I can say with confidence that I'm never buying a Ford product ever again!  People had warned me not to buy Ford.  Live and learn!

Very Noisy Compressor on Air Conditioner
by lanov

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No
Pros: Handles nicely, roomy, smooth ride.
Cons: Noisy compressor on air conditioner. Middle seat not comfortable.
We have had our 2005 Freestar back to the dealer three times now to have them checkout the extremely loud noise from the compressor each time it kicks on. They keep telling us that it is normal and that in 2005 Ford put some type of extra fan or compressor system on the engine which causes it to be slightly noisy. This does not seem right to us. We've been driving Fords since 1969, owned many over the years, and this is the first time we've ever experienced this problem. It is so noisy that when we stop at a stoplight, we've had people look over at us as if wondering what was wrong with our car. Our daughter and son-in-law and family borrowed our Freestar to drive from Ohio to Michigan a month or so ago and the first thing they commented on to us was how noisy the compressor was. We are wondering if anyone else is experiencing these same problems?? Please contact us at lanov@sbcglobal.net as we would be very interested to hear your feedback.
