Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Reliable, without sacrificing driving enjoyment
Cons: Road noise
The Bottom Line: Fun driving experience, combined with decent economy, and with 150,000kms of trouble-free driving - couldn't ask for better!

Our mazda 3 was purchased brand new in Oct '05.  It's the Sport GT hatchback with most options except leather seats.  As of today (Aug '12) it has turned 150,000 kms (93,000 miles) and has been completely trouble-free the whole time.  ... read more

Mazda 3 - A great example of careful engineering

by heemy31
Jul 29, 2010 (Not Yet Rated)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great design and fit and finish, quality materials throughout, standout looks, plenty of features.
Cons: 4 speed automatics on 2004 and 2005 cars and weak A/C units
The Bottom Line: Definitely take a look at this car - it will not disappoint.  Much more character than the other imports and it is built to a higher standard than the domestics.

My 2005 Mazda 3 is the GT sedan with the 2.3L 4-cylinder.  I've owned this car now for 2 years having bought it used.  There have been no mechanical issues with it whatsoever and I continue to be impressed by the build quality.  I ... read more

Apr 18, 2009 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: The interior of the vehicle has been good.
Cons: There are too many cons with the brakes on this vehicle to list.
The Bottom Line: I would never recommend this vehicle to anyone. There are numerous things wrong with the wheels and brakes.

I bought this product at Christmas 2005. I was very excited since I had been looking for a vehicle that was good on gas and affordable.  At this time I have 73k miles on my car and have had nothing but problems with the vehicle. During the last ... read more

Pros: Look, fuel-efficiency, amenities

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Good gas mileage, responsive handling, good looks
Cons: Difficult to drive in poor weather conditions
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this car if you are on a budget

I currently drive a 2005 Mazda 3 and love it. Although there are higher performing cars, the vehicle I have is a great bargain considering its affordability. It is fairly appealing to the eyes and is a lot of fun to drive. I began driving ... read more

Best all around value in it's class with PERSONALITY

by tv98689
Dec 22, 2006 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great performance, comfort, and utility in slick package. A 5 tool player. Unbeateable.
Cons: Engine noise, electric steering at speed, seat fabric, poor side crash test ratings.
The Bottom Line: This player is an all-star with all five tools and an attitude. Unbeatable. Still quality made in Hiroshima, Japan.

I own a Mazda 3 Sport GT. This is one heck of a car. Zoom zoom is the perfect way to describe this car because everything about this car makes you feel alive (similar to what crappy Pontiac claims, but what Mazda actually backs up). This car has so ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: A lot of Car for the Money!
Cons: Air Conditioner - Not as powerful as it could be.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this car to anyone looking in this class. It's a lot of car for the money and Mazda is a trusted brand.

I own a 2005 Mazda 3i 4 door and it's one of the best cars I've ever owned. I test drove almost ever other car in its class including the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla and Toyota Matrix. The Mazda 3 not only looks better, but I got a lot more for my ... read more

Best in Price Range

Sep 7, 2006 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Roomy, comfy, handles well, great warranty, base model is nice!
Cons: Air conditioning not that cold, road noise, 1.2 Engine not much horsepower
The Bottom Line: If you want an affordable new or slightly used, quality car with a great warranty, this is your car!

For the price, I was unable to find a better deal. I do believe Mazda3's base model comes with 4 doors, power locks, and more, and brand new cost me less than 16K after some negotiation. Why I bought this car: I was looking for a low-cost, roomy, ... read more

Jun 13, 2006 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Everything
Cons: Almost nothing
The Bottom Line: For the under 20 grand cars this is the one!

I bought my Mazda 3 in March of '05. It now has 24,000 miles on it and it still is a joy to drive. I've put a lot of miles on it but I've experience no major or minor malfunctions. I really tried to do my homework on this car and study the other ... read more

Apr 17, 2006 - Updated Apr 19, 2006 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: - Great handling - Peppy - Very comfortable - Great sound system
Cons: - nothing yet
The Bottom Line: Best car I've ever had - reliable, sounds great, more-than-enough power, excellent road manners.

Our last car was a 1993 Nissan NX. What can I say - the price was right; free. It was my mother-in-law's car, and she gave it to us when my wife and I were starting out. So, after cramming our 6' bodies into this miniature car for several years, our ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: fit/finish, handling and steering response, Pep, economy, price, styling
Cons: low scores on side impact,OK outward vision/r seat room, No int wipers
The Bottom Line: Standard model represents great value over Civic and Corolla plus it will give you some Zooom Zoom Zoom in the back roads for under 12k!

Today, as I love test driving cars, I checked out the new Protege replacement, the Mazda 3. They had one equipped with just the optional A/C and it was $11,288. Special base model advertised "only 1 at this price" model. The 2 liter 16v motor had ... read more

Nov 14, 2005 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great deal! Nice wheels standard! Steering wheel controls! Back seat room! Great gas mileage!
Cons: Not enough "zoom". Car idles low sometimes. Radio controls don't have same "look" as gauges.
The Bottom Line: Great car for the price! Can't beat the room and style. If you are looking for a faster ride, definitely go with the manual transmission.

I had a slight problem with my 2001 Audi A4, so I ended up having to search for a replacement car quickly. Because of my circumstances, I really needed a more economical car. Truth be told, the word economical had never entered my vocabulary until ... read more

Sleek,peppy,economical

Sep 17, 2005 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: sleek design,beautiful paint,peppy,economical
Cons: small cupholders, large blind spot, dull interior lighting
The Bottom Line: Recommend purchase if you are looking for a sleek, peppy alternative to a cracker box or tin can.

What really got me about this vehicle was the sleek slight curve near the back of the car. It's a gentle sweep that makes just the slightest, but also elegant statement. It's hard to beat a 4 cylinder, but the peppiness of this lil' ditty is what's ... read more

Bigger than it seems!

by laceyshawn
Sep 6, 2005 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Beautiful style, modern, compact yet spacious, steering wheel controls, Bose sound system, very smooth handling
Cons: Cons? Not much. Weak A/C system is about it
The Bottom Line: Beautiful car. Very powerful, very good gas mileage (25-32) and a great sound system powerfully overshadows its only known weakness, a weak A/C system.

I am a big guy...6'4, 230, and this car still has plenty of room to give. I was skeptical about it but I couldnt resist when I took it for a test drive. This thing has more power than ever imagined and drives incredibly smooth for its short wheel ... read more

by joela714
Sep 2, 2005 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Style, handling, style, road grip, did I say style?
Cons: None really.
The Bottom Line: Great starter car, heck, great car, period. Looks and feels sporty. Wish it had been around when I bought my first car in 1996.

Last year I was looking for a new car to replace my 1996 Dodge Neon. One of the candidates was the Mazda6. Unfortunately, I thought it didn't have enough headroom and I wasn't going to give up the sunroof. (As you'll see, that was the salesperson's ... read more

Sep 1, 2005 - Updated Jan 31, 2006 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Drivability; gas mileage; styling; quality of build; peppy engine
Cons: Rear seating; oil changes (see above); handling in snow with standard tires
The Bottom Line: For the price, I cannot imagine a better built, more enjoyable vehicle. Be aware that you may need to go to your dealer for oil changes

I've owned a number of cars over the years, most of which were sedans with adequate room, adequate comfort, adequate performance and moderately priced. They were also all American cars. The Mazda 3 hatchback is none of those (except moderately ... read more

Pros: Good Handling and Performance. Sporty exterior and interior Good vision and easy to drive.
Cons: Cold brake squeak and brake dust. Front windscreen wipers could be better.
The Bottom Line: The car excels in handling and performance and has a sporty interior and exterior. Would recommend the Mazda 3 if you are looking a small to medium class car.

I have always owned hatchbacks and this sporty looking hatchback attracted me to this car. Also the Mazda reputation for good handling, performance and quality attracted me to this car. I test drove a number of cars before choosing the Mazda 3 and after ... read more

by nabdaman316
May 20, 2005 - Updated Mar 2, 2006 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fun to drive, upscale and classy look inside and out, safety ratings, Mazda reliability
Cons: Road and wind noise, some small items that seem to be oversights by designers.
The Bottom Line: Well-equipped car that is cheaper that a similarly equipped car in its class.

I purchased a new 2005 Mazda 3s in March because I had lost my first car, a Pontiac Grand Am, when I was broadsided by an SUV. After the aftermath of that settled, I began looking at cars to replace it. I wanted a brand new car that had a good all-around ... read more

A Hatchback to Keep for the Upcoming Years

by psychoart
May 17, 2005 - Updated May 30, 2005 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: HID, some rear LEDs, Bose, and rain sensing wipers.
Cons: No heated side mirrors. Rear not all LEDs. No storage underneath front seats.
The Bottom Line: Good hatchback to keep for over 5 years.

I have owned two VW Golfs (Golf III VR6, and Golf IV GTI GLX VR6), and I could tell you that the Mazda3 is a hatchback to keep. The Mazda3 hatchback may not be as good as the Golf IV GLX in a few department, but it certainly is a better hatchback to ... read more
