2005 Toyota CAMRY, a winner for all

by ASourdough4 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500
Feb 05 '07 - Updated Feb 14 '07

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Quiet, Comfortable, Nimble, Affordable, Compatible Styling
Cons: DayLight Glare on dashboard reflects off windshield. Tricky 'Automatic' Headlight and Cruise Control.
The Bottom Line: This is the best of many nice vehicles I have driven. I would not hesitate to take it across the Grand Old U.S.A.

No Vehicle would appeal to everyone but the TOYOTA CAMRY is a crowd-pleaser. It is quiet, comfortable, nimble, and affordable. I see them everywhere. After six months of driving this one, a used 2005 LE Model, and many test drives of others, I ...

Pros: Very reliable vehicle, for the price it really can't be beat
Cons: Low warranty may be an issue for some, tires may be low quality from dealer
The Bottom Line: Excellent value for a proven track record.

I must admit I am a big Toyota loyalist. I'm not looking for something that will die in 2-3 years or need major repairs. I have read the one review that someone has put up and find it amazing. Now I freely admit there are cars out there that are ...

The ultimate in luxury and utility, the 2005 Camry easily beats the competition

Jan 16 '05 - Updated Mar 26 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Top build quality, nearly silent, long list of standard features, excellent resale value, impressive engine
Cons: Small tires, no standard side air-bags, many options not widely available, cruise-control stalk
The Bottom Line: Unless you're dead set on something with more "emotion", the Camry will serve you well for years, and miles, to come.

[Note: In response to suggestions, and more time with the car, I have updated the review accordingly] We recently purchased a new 2005 Toyota Camry LE Automatic (4 cyl.) to replace our aging Buick LeSabre. The following is my impression of the car. ...

The Bottom Line: You really can't go wrong with a Camry. If you're looking for a car, I would highly recommend this one..

Let me preface this review by saying I am in my early 20s and am finishing up with school. My main criteria was reliability, and of course price. My peers tend to drive two door cars, or something along the lines of a Corolla or Civic. The Camry is ...

Pros: Reliable, standard, safety, re-sale value, and low noise
Cons: Gas mileage for the V-6.
The Bottom Line: This car is definitely a quality car. The ride is smooth and quiet. It has the feel of a luxury car but at an affordable price.

As a 20-something year old, most of my peers are not interested in a car like the Camry. Most individuals are seeking a sportier or budget type car. What I like about this car is that it can appeal to all sorts of people. The ride is where the camry ...

Pros: Even with its quirks, the navigation system is wonderful.
Cons: Overstuffed seating. Rear post blocks visibility. Tricky trunk closure.
The Bottom Line: I rely on Camry dependability, comfortable ride, and love the navigation system even with its vagaries.

I love the navigation system even though it tends to direct me to house numbers existing only in the best of all possible worlds rather than in any town in California--that is, it'll tell me I'm at #2522, but I know the house, and it's further up the ...

The Bottom Line: Looking for a 4-door sedan? Stop. It's useless to waste time comparing. Get a Toyota Camry and get on with your life.

My 2005 Toyota Camry XLE V6 replaces a wonderful 2002 Camry that went off lease. In so many ways, it's more of the same for this model year; there are only a few changes from the '02-'04 production years. And yet, Toyota continues to push the ...

2005 Camry LE - ECT problems - No Dealer support
by fishermr
Aug 10 '05
Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No
Pros: Apart from the transmission a good all around car
Cons: ECT doesn't function according to specifications. Lousy Dealer, no support to resolve issue.
Great car - BUT on long inclined grades the car continuously shifts between 3rd & 4th gears until the cruise control is turned off. Dealership agree that the ECT isn't working properly, even took out another new LE that did the same thing. Toyota Canada say "there is no problem". I do lots of driving in the mountains and now I have to do so out of cruise control to prevent hunting.

The dealership offered to resolve the problem with my 7 week old car - me pay $5300 to change to a V6. If I didn't accept that offer they said I could take up the fight with Toyota Canada - lousy customer representation.

Am in discussion with Toyota Canada and will await their "official response" - I should have stayed with Hondas.

My 2005 Camry is better than my Accord.

Pros: Highway gas millage 30-33 highway with cruise control. Headlights really light up the road.
Cons: Tires wear out fast. Paint scratches easily especially where door handles are.
I bought a 2005 Camry new after my transmission failed in the 1998 Honda Accord I had with 56,000 miles on it.

The Toyota Camry is the basic model, 4 cylinder, with automatic transmission. Everything I got came as standard equipment.

I have been very happy with it. If this car continues to perform the way it has been I will be a Toyota owner forever.

There is a lot of torque on the front tires when accelerating from a standstill. Easy to make the wheels squeal.

No problem on the entrance ramp onto the turnpike, 25-70 in a matter of seconds.

2005 Toyota Camry Solara Convertible
by kindeyes
Aug 07 '05
Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: Lasting value, good looks, fit and finish, miles-per-gallon, more
Cons: view to the rear, tires
This car is a beauty. I bought the base model SE-V6 to avoid the leather seats in the SLE-V6. This car rides very well, gets 33 MPG on the highway, and is appropriately quiet with the top up. The upgraded sound system is terrific. The engine is very strong, more than adequate acceleration. The fit and finish is exemplary.

The MAJOR drawback is the view to the rear, severely impeded by the head restraints in the back seat (these may serve a roll-bar function) and the top when it is up. The provided "boot" impedes the view even further; I don't use that at all anymore.

The trunk space is small; for me, a "who cares".

The tires are mediocre for treadwear. The cassette player takes up space and will probably never be used.

This is our second Toyota, the first and third being Avalons (2000 XLS and 2005 Limited). Would I buy this car again? YES ! ! ! In a heartbeat.

Our 2005 Camry 2.4 4 Cyl lacks in the MPG arena

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: Very Comfortable & Dependable nice car
Cons: Poor Gas Mileage
We bought our Toyota in 2005 for the gas mileage now were sorry the best we have ever gotten is a little over 20 MPG I have a 2002 GMC Truck V8 that gets 20 MPG on the highway & a average of 15 MPG you would think a 4 Cyl Toyota Camry would be far superior over the truck I don't get it. The car is great other then the lies about the gas Mileage. I would have been happy with the low of 24 MPG let alone 34 MPG. its hard to believe that any one gets 34 MPG ours runs great & has always been well maintained I hope this helps for those considering buying one based on the Gas mileage as far as the rest of the car Its the best .

Cons: Rear posts obstruct rear visibility some.
This new 2005 Camry is even quieter and peppier than our 2002 Camry (that we still own BTW). The new 5-speed automatic is geared differently giving better pick up. ABS brakes are now standard. We opted for the 'side-impact' air bags (approx $650 option).

Pros: Smooth engine, roomy and nicely equipped
Cons: transmission is a little weird
i put 210000 miles on my previous camry 93 until i crashed it. No headache what so ever, so i decided to buy camry again. I bought this 2005 for almost a year, smooth engine, very comfortable and very roomy!!! can't ask for more in compare with the same class with other mfg. Power is OK for a inline 4 engine, V6 would be a good upgrade!

But one thing that i have problem with is the transmission, my previous transmission is really great very smooth, but somehow with this new camry, i feel a little weird about it, dont' know what's the problem.

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No
Pros: Lighting . Height. Forward visibility. Air conditioning controls
Cons: Lousy Tires, mushy brakes, rear door, rattles, panel lights, radio, engine response, unpredictable shifts,
We bought our Camry based on vehicle reviews and word of mouth from associates who had also purchased Camrys in the past. We are very disappointed. Fuel mileage is only slight better than our old 95 Buick Century. Ride is reasonably good with about the same body lean as our old Buick in turns. It is a little awkward go from a dead stop to a reasonable speed as the accelerator is unpredictable. This appears to be a function of the "drive by wire" computer as there is no direct link between the accelerator pedal and the engine. The four cylinder engine is fairly strong and the 5 speed automatic does a pretty good job getting the car up to speed, just don't expect 6 or 8 cylinder acceleration above 40. It is fairly quiet regarding wind speed noise, but the road noise comes through noticeably.

So Far, So Good, Camry LE 2005

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: Good price for what I got, roomy, handles the road well.
Cons: MPG is less than stated; the stereo system could be better
I chose the Camry because of its past history, and it came highly recommended by Toyota drivers and non Toyota drivers. I also had the opportunity to drive my girlfriend's Camry and my sister's Echo. Both cars drove well. I have also been informed that with regular basic maintenance I should have very few if any problems with this car. This is a big plus.

I compared the Camry to other cars, especially the Honda Accord and the Nissan Maxima. The Accord was too small. In comparison to the other cars the Camry fell within my budget, I liked the roominess, the resale value is good, I like the way the Camry looks and I think it is a good investment for a first time car owner.

The Camry handles the road well, the brakes work well when I have needed to stop suddenly, my passengers are comfortable. The LE features, powered seats, powered mirrors, powered windows and locks are great to have. I love that I have a cassette player and a CD player. I am looking forward to enjoying this car for years to come.

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No
Pros: Good clean lines and nice styling.
Cons: Bad gas mileage. Bad transmission. Interior exactly like Altima.
Bought a new 2005 Toyota Camry and put 2,000 miles on it. I only got 18.5 mpg with my 4 cylinder engine and the transmission kept shifting gears between 33 and 35mph for no reason. Three trips to dealer and e-mails to Toyota produced no results. Dealer says the car was within specs. On their machine it got 21mpg and even they couldn't get the ADVERTISED 24 - 34mpg but they still said it was within specs. It was obvious to me that Toyota was no longer within my "specs" and that customer satisfaction was a thing of the past. I've always owned a Toyota ranging from a 72 Corona Delux to a 85 pickup to a 95 T-100 to a 2000 Camry to the present 2005 Camry. All were excellent except the last one. It was a pig.

2005 Toyota Camry $30,000 LEMON

Pros: LOOKs GOOD
Cons: TRANSMISSION LURCHES, STALLS, REVS.
Bought it new in August, '05. V6XLE, 3.0. Shifting problems from day one. I am one of thousands with this problem. Toyota America admits the problem, denies a fix, calls the erratic and dangerous shifting "within design" specifications. Told me to "pat the accelerator" when it happens, suggested that "multiple people" drive it which usually will make it shift better. Ridiculous.
Bought the car new, August '05. Problems since day one.
My wife hates the car, I will not drive it. She has almost been hit many times due to the shifting. The car lurches, stalls, revs, snaps your neck(forward and back).
This is apparently representative of thousands of owners, even up through '07. "Drive by wire" scheme is the problem. No fix, therefore no recall, or admission that the vehicle operates outside anyone's reasonable expectations. Dealer admits the problem with the transmission, has no fix. Replacement will only give me a new transmission with the same problem. I am on track to file a class action suit against Toyota this summer. Anyone interested, please email me with your experience, vin, and any other information you see fit. Thanks. Randy 33yrs@phreego.com

Toyota - Reliable and Uncomfortable
by jjpinsc
Mar 20 '07
Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: Reliability, gas mileage, solidly built.
Cons: Comfort, transmission shifting, acceleration (drive-by-wire), and brakes
My 2005 Camry LE (bought 11/04) has 32,000 miles and is an overall solid car. The 4 Cylinder engine is adequate. The transmission shifts strangely in the cold and when accelerating up a hill. The acceleration by wire acts funny when traveling at 20-35 MPH or in stop and go traffic. Biggest complaints: paint chips too easily and the seats are mucho uncomfortable. Get 24 mpgcity and 32 mpg highway.

Cons: too expansive and under power..
the engine is just not enough power, from 0-60 take too long in today's freeway, oh yea.. Toyota lie about the car's mileage, its only about 23.5m/g.

after about 6 month driving it, transmittion and power stearing issue starting to come up... hope they recall this as other issues with transmittion no functioning for the other cars. And the dealership keep giving me a run around... they keep holding the car for a few days with out doing any work on it, just telling me "we havn't get time to work on it"... its been in the shop 6 times and each time is about 2 to 3 days...

driving it feel CHEAP and a bored person...
no excitment...

Stalls when accelerating
by kity
Nov 06 '05
Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No
Pros: Overall quality
Cons: Hesitation
Toyota is generally considered to be one of the better automobiles and this one is in many respects.

However, it comes with a deal-killer. A computer controls the transmission. If you try to accelerate rapidly the car will hesitate for a second or two before it responds while the computer decides what gear to shift into. If you need to accelerate quickly, for example to get up an on ramp to merge with traffic, this becomes a dangerous flaw.

I have driven Toyotas since 1985 and have always thought they were excellent cars. Except for the problem with acceleration I would gladly rate this car 5 stars. As it is, I have to rate this car unacceptable.

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No
Pros: It has great trunk capacity, is quiet to drive, has daytime running lights,
Cons: My car is not operating properly and the dealership is in denial
When my 2004 Honda Accord was totaled I compared the 2005 Accord to the Camry. It was a seeming tossup with small differences so, since my major consideration was mpg which was similar, I let price dictate my choice. I was very happy with my Camry initially as I measured 22 - 25 mpg with the first many fillings. At approx. 1200 miles on the odometer I started getting 18 mpg. The dealership told me that according to their equipment I was getting 18 - 22 mpg and also a recording of 9 mpg and nothing was wrong with my car. The sales mgr allowed that he never heard of a Camry getting 18 mpg. They suggested that the problem was:
1. driving behavior (then what accounts for my initial mpg)
2. "bad gas" - shortages allowed water to collect in empty gas station tanks.
3. The sales mgr chimed in with the accusation that my oil should be changed every three months no matter that my miles are so low. (Toyota recommends every 6 mos)

Pros: Ride, transmission, fit and finish.
Cons: Seating, Stereo.
I purchased this car to replace my 2000 Accord. This car has so far been outstanding. The car is very smooth and is the most unexciting car I have owned, yet it does everything outstanding. I was very skeptical about buying the 4 cyl. model, but every time I think it will not have enough power, I ask it for more and it never fails to deliver. I have yet to feel the car shift. The transmission is perfectly matched to the engine. The one thing that is dissapointing is the stereo. Although it is good, I expected more from the XLE model. Also, I feel the seats are a bit stiff.

Pros: Undeniable Toyota Quality. Stellar fit and finish. Superb Cruiser. Excellent re-sale value
Cons: Vanilla! No fun to drive or look at! Trails Accord and Altima in acceleration/maneuverability!
The Camry pleases again with its great fit and finish, quiet cabin, remarkable quality and isolating atmosphere. Still too bland and uninvolved however (yes even the V6-SE), but if 'boring appliance' works then why change it?
Vanilla is still a great flavor...

Pros: The Toyota reputation for reliability offers peace of mind.
Cons: Hard leather seats are uncomfortable for distance driving of a few hours or more.
3.0L-V6 is smooth, powerful, and quiet. The Camry is the perfect size and easy to handle, making parking simple and convenient. Everything other than the seats is great.
