Fast and Pocketable

by imreasztar , Apr 26 '05
Pros: Small size, fast operation, large LCD, user friendly menu
Cons: Accidentally pressed button, optics not sharp enough for 4 mp, noise in low light
At the beginning I was very afraid to purchase a Casio digital camera, it sounded so odd to go for a Casio instead of the big names like Nikon, Canon, Fuji, Olympus or Sony. However, during the last 8 months of use, the Casio win over me and I am very ...

Casio EX-Z40 Delivers - Superb Camera

by pmergler , Apr 23 '04
Pros: Size, Shutter Speed, Battery Life, Intuitive Buttons/Menus, Video w/Sound, Start-up Speed, BestShot Feature
Cons: Proprietary Battery
I just got my EX-Z40 two days ago. So far I am extremely impressed. The size is great for putting it in your pocket and going out or to a baseball game (like I did). Everyone who has seen it is really impressed with it. The most impressive thing about ...

by vanslam , May 29 '04
Pros: large screen, fast start-up, long battery life, movies longer than 30 seconds
Cons: No external switch for movie mode must use menu.
What can I say the Casio Exilim EX-Z40 is a neat little camera. It takes nice pictures and movies, it has a long battery life and it’s light and compact. The Casio is not my first digital camera, that honor goes to my Fuji, then I purchased a Canon ...

Excellent camera - small, fast, long battery and quality pics

by outofline , May 11 '04
Pros: Size, Battery life, Picture Quality, audio/video recording and ease of use.
Cons: Rather expensive (but worth every penny)
I bought a 4.0 Mega Pixel Casio EX-Z40 in early April '04, making it my first digital camera. I wanted a digital camera that was small, quick to start up, quick to take pictures, had a long battery life and, on top of all that, took great pictures. I was ...

Bad Support, Fragile Camera

by macjohn , Apr 15 '05
Pros: Easy to use, good quality pictures
Cons: had six months, didn't drop, lens locked, not covered under warranty
Basics about the Camera: This Camera is extremely small and lightweight (weight 4.27 oz and dimensions are: 3.43”W x 2.24”H x .91”D). Therefore, it is extremely convenient to have with you when the photographic need arises (fits easily in a ...

others worry about pic quality or technical features; don't!

by rmlef , Dec 27 '04
Pros: fits in a shirt pocket; the battery life is great; the screen is large.
Cons: THE MANUAL
This is my first digital; was afraid of getting a camera that wasn't from a "camera manufacturer" but this is no longer a concern. I did lots of on-line research. This is simple to use. Nice and compact; the size really is a plus. As the others have ...

Great Camera...Easy to use!
by tenchyz ,Feb 02 '05
Pros: LONG LONG BATTERY LIFE! Really small and thin!
Cons: Might be a little too pricey for beginner digital camera buyers.
This was my second digital camera, my first one was an olympus which was bought back in 1999. i wanted a more sleek easier to carry around camera. Becuase my old camera was bulky and it weighed a ton, plus the batteries ran out all the time. I love this camera cause its really light weight, it takes really clear pictures, and it has about 8 different settings for takin pictures..and you can even create your own setting!

Excellent camera for the money
by rondempster ,Apr 13 '05
Pros: Size, easy to use, well built, good picture quality.
Cons: none
I have owned 2 previous digital cameras, a Toshiba PDR-M60 and a Minolta E223 both of them eventually broke, comparing the Z40 to these is like night and day. the Z40 is far superior. its not perfect though shots taken in low light are grainy probably caused by the auto ISO changing to 200 or 400 if you lock it to 100 its acceptable, overall I think its a terrific camera.

Good Camera for Snapshots, etc.
by ventrerd ,Jul 07 '05
Pros: True shirt pocket size, good battery life, SD chips are available at reasonable cost
Cons: Hard to focus in low light, some sparkles in low light shots
This is my third digital camera. The others were Olympus. I like the form factor (true shirt pocket size) and the ease of use. Battery life has been very good with over night recharging. I have shot up to 300 photos in a single day and over 1000 in one week. Avoided the Sony because of the memory stick vs. secure digital card issue. SD card prices have been plummeting. I have had problems in low light (tend to get random white pixels and focusing is tough) but for what I wanted (4x6 prints, snapshot quality) you can not beat it.

Great Camera in every way!
by grhokie ,May 18 '04
Pros: Battery life, size, photo quality . . . EVERYTHING!
Cons: Owners' manual isn't real good, but all else is great.
This is my first digital. I bought it to take to Disney World. The selling point was the allegedly long battery life. Well, after taking picture after picture for 6 days in Disney, I can remove the "allegedly." I never charged the battery, although I could have easily with the included cradle.

It's small, light and takes photos rapid fire quick. The "Best Shot" features give you a variety of settings and focus options. I would strongly recommend a 256K SD card to go with it, then your memory will last as long as the battery.

Nice compact camera
by mytoe_2000 ,Apr 05 '05
Pros: compact, very large LCD, scene select provides default settings by theme (e.g. nature, candlelight, etc.)
Cons: so small it can be hard to hold. flash can be too bright.
Casio has made this camera quite small and compact. It provides many different formats for capturing memories such as, standard picture, picture with audio, audio (record) only, and video. Within picture mode, it offers a variety of pre-set scene selections such as, nature, candlelight, portrait, portrait with background, etc. to help achieve the correct colors. The LCD takes up almost half of the back side of the camera, which is nice for shooting and viewing in playback mode. In summary, I would recommend this as a good pocket camera to take snapshot memories here and there. Because it's hard to tell exactly what you'll get in a picture, I would not recommend it for family portraits or other 'valuable' memories.

Mighty little camera with a huge screen
by isnoop ,Apr 23 '04
Pros: Credit card sized camera with a gigantic screen. Stellar battery life.
Cons: Produces grainy, unfocused low light pictures.
This bijou is an upgraded version of the Casio EX-Z4u camera. It has all of the good features from the last generation (4MP, 3x optical, 2" LCD) plus full movie clip support.

The only problems I've had with it so far are auto-balancing light conditions and focusing in low light. The former is not a real problem since it can be fixed very easily in any quality photo editor.

UPDATE:
The low-light focusing issue became more bothersome over time. If you plan on taking most of your pictures in well-lit conditions, this will not be a problem. However, indoor low-light or nighttime shots are often out of focus. If low light is a must, you will be better suited to find a camera with a spotter.

On Casio's side, they managed to add tripod mount and manual focus, two features I wouldn't have expected on a camera this size. Other handy features include a photo composition grid, picture calendar, 21 different preset scene modes, and a boot time of less than 1.5 seconds.

I recommend this camera to anyone who is looking for a stylish compact with point&shoot ease and enough extra features to any enthusiast happy.

not even close to comparable
by lukester01 ,Aug 11 '04
Pros: speed large LCD
Cons: image quality
I have a Canon S400, I figured I would try this camera because it had a few +'s the canon doesnt. A large LCD, and fast shot to shot. But those two +'s cant make up for the bad image quality. It only took 3 test shots compared side to side with the canon s400 to see immediately that the optics dont even come close to the canon. This cameras colors were correct, the exposure was good, but the clarity of the image was so poor compared to the canon that I didnt even have to do a close inspection of the images to see they were inferior. And the closer I looked the more the poor quality showed.

Get the Canon.

BIG MAN IN A SMALL SHELL.........!
by walesric ,Oct 05 '04
Pros: REAL EASY TO USE, LIGHTWEIGHT, VIDEO RECORDING IS GREAT WITH A BIG SD CARD.AWESOME!.
Cons: THE SCREEN IS GRAINY IN LOW LIGHT, DISSAPOINTING!! BUILT IN MEMORY A LITTLE SMALL.
WITHIN SECONDS OF TURNING THE CAMERA ON I WAS TAKING HIGH QUALITY SHOTS OF EVERYTHING IN SIGHT. WITH GOOD LIGHT THE 2.0" SCREEN REALLY DOES MAKE THE PICTURE LOOK GOOD. GREAT ZOOM CAPABILITIES, BOTH IN AND OUT OF SHOT. EASY TO CONTROL QUICK OFF THE MARK DIGITAL FUN WITH A SIMPLE DOCKING STATION THAT DOES THE JOB. CONNECTING TO THE COMPUTER COULDN'T BE EASIER.
THE SIZE OF THE EX-Z40 IS BRILLIANT, PORTABLE WITH EASE, SO SMALL YOU CAN ALMOST FORGET ABOUT IT BEING IN YOUR POCKET. QUALITY ALLUMINIUM FINISH WHICH REALLY GIVES IT A STYLISH PROFESSIONAL LOOK.
THE BATTERY LIFE IS UNBELIVEABLY LONG, NEVER NEED WORRY ABOUT TAKING IT OUT AND GETTING CAUGHT SHORT, DOESN'T HAPPEN.
THE ONLY THING THAT DISSAPOINTED ME WAS THE GRAINY QUALITY OF THE 2.0" LCD SCREEN IN LOW LIT AREAS.........
STILL A SH*THOT CAMERA!.

The Perfect Little Camera
by luckb ,Aug 08 '04
Pros: Great pictures. Compact. Movies. Easy to use. Looks snazzy. Whats not to love?
Cons: Purchase of a SD memory card is a MUST. Display isn't good in direct sunlight.
The Casio Exilim EX Z-40 is a fantastic camera! It's easy to use as a point-and-shoot camera, but has some nice user-flattering features as well, such as macro mode, manual focus and ISO selection. User-selected image quality ranges from low, file-sharing range to portrait quality. The "Best Shot" feature is nice when taking night, low-light, or composing the shot as you go. The selections in this feature can also be edited for even more options. Movies taken with the EX Z-40 are clear and the sound is much better than I expected. Audio can be added to a snapshot either when the shot is taken, or later. The colors are rich and the image quality is good. It has a bare minimum of included memory, so a decent SD memory card is necessary. The display is a bit dim in sunlight, but the viewfinder compensates nicely. The only other drawback is the bundled software. It's okay, but I prefer Picasa for downloading/managing the images. Final verdict: this camera is a beautiful, beautiful thing!

The Best Camera
by morichesdonna ,Oct 28 '04
Pros: Size, battery life, quality of pictures
Cons: None
I would recommend the EX-Z40 to anyone. Pictures are great. Battery lasts forever. Choice of LCD or optical viewfinder. Can take it anywhere. Uploading to the PC is so easy with the camera dock. I bought this product because my last digital camera was so large (Sony) and I wanted something that I could actually carry with me at all times. I have gotten some great quality pics. Love everything about it.

Excellent, compact 4MP camera
by mandviwala ,Nov 15 '04
Pros: Compact size, 21 different modes, Big LCD display
Cons: - None, whatsoever
I bought this camera after a lot of research. I literally "mined" the whole web before deciding to buy this on on compuplus.com. I think it was a great decision! Final contestants were the Canon Elph and the Sony T1. It also takes great video with sound!
