Pros: Small Size, 4-megapixel resolution, easy-to-use, large LCD monitor, excellent point-and-shoot camera Cons: Anyone looking for more than a point-and-shoot camera should look elsewhere
Looking for a digital camera that can slip into your shirt pocket, yet have enough features to take quality pictures and be easy to use? Casios Exilim EX-Z4U fits the bill. I was lucky enough to borrow a friends for a few days to see ...
Pros: Great images, small size, long battery life. Cons: Smallish controls on rear of camera.
This is my third digital camera, having previously owned an Olympus Cameda 2.0 and a Sony DSC-S85. I sold the Sony on eBay to enable me to purchase this Casio, as I found the Sony rather large to carry around. While on vacation in New York City last ...
Pros: Size, easy use, long lasting battery Cons: none
My husband and I had talked off and on for a couple of years about getting a digital camera. I wasn't real thrilled due to the cost and we really don't do or go anywhere that would justify a camera like this. That said, I got sent to Operation Iraqi ...
Pros: Large LCD, Size, picture quality, features, battery life Cons: on-board memory, poorly designed 'rocker' switch
I'm a purist, always have been. Perhaps the result of being the son of a professional photographer. So I've been waiting, and waiting, and waiting to plunge into the digital camera world for some time. It'll be a while before any digital camera ...
Pros: Digital convenience, ‘pocket’ size, battery life, 4.0 MP, 2” LCD, Movie Feature, great macro Cons: Problematic color reproduction, Lag, intense flash, cradle, No manual mode
I’m writing this review in March 2004 on my first digital camera, the EX-Z4 purchased in December 2003. I bought the gray market non-USA (not Z4U) version on eBay because I wanted the 1-minute movie feature. The 1-minute movies with sound are excellent. ...
Pros: Huge LCD screen, ultra compact, charging & USB cradle, long battery life. Cons: Colours less natural than Sony, more pixelation, can't permanently disable digital zoom.
I love the huge LCD display & the compactness of the Casio Exilim EX-Z4U camera & 4Mpixels all for just £265. I really like the cradle it sits in for charging & USB connection & it can run for much longer between charges than the Sony. I bought the ...
Pros: Small, sleek and stylish. Takes great photos and has large LCD screen. Cons: No movie mode, but do you really do anything worth saving with those little movies?
I just got my Casio EX-Z4U at the end of last week. I had been researching cameras online for a good two months now and decided to go with the Casio based on picture quality and size of the camera. I must say after getting it I am totally happy that ...
Pros: Small, sturdy, quick, nice pictures Cons: Design flaw lets dust enter in lens system, see review
Bought this camera at BJ's in June 2004. I worked great. I carried it around with me all the time. In the original Casio web ad, the one made me buy the camera, a young lady slips the camera in her shirt pocket. So did I. While the pictures were great ...
Pros: Excellent pictures. Very compact and easy to use. Cons: No video. Need base to download pics.
I've had a few digital cameras and this one is the best one. Had a Richo in the mid 90s and a Sony Mavica until last month. Bought the Casio Z4 because I was not using the Mavica because it is very large and not easy to carry around. I am very happy ...
Great Camera! Updated Firmware fixes Blue Tint! by keithme ,Dec 05 '03
Pros: Form Factor, quality pictures, quick tech support, solid build, nice LCD, controls intuitive. Cons: Sports Mode/Shutter control, want the movie mode we had with the EXZ3.
Wrote to Casio about an issues related to the flash in dark settings. White balance was off causing a "blue tint." Casio released a firmware fix on their worldwide site this Jan04. From Casio tech support! Good company, great camera. Now if they get the movie mode feature like my old Z3 I'd be completely satisfied! Yippie!
There is an update [ firmware] to address "blue tint" issue. Please go to the site:

Upgraded to this from a EX-Z3 last week. Features are intuitive but wish for SPORTS MODE. When action is taking place, I'm the only one with a camera because of the form factor. This thing goes where no other can. Unfortunately, I've yet to figure out how to freeze moving action. (child on a swing) Battery lasts and lasts. At a wedding last month, a few other groomsmen had Digi-cameras. Half way through the day, they were all dead. Mine went 180 shots most with flash and display on and off all day. LCD is fun to review pictures on cause it's large even though the pixel count is low. It's got a great lag time.
Pros: size, large screen, flash, EVERYTHING! Cons: NOT MUCH!
I have had this camera for two weeks and so far i love it! My only issue which I dont care about is sometimes the LARGE screen has a blurry picture. This doesnt matter though because when you take the picture it turns REALLY clear. I was amazed by the cameras size and flash. I have taken pictures in complete darkness and you cant even tell! I researched online FOREVER before I decided on this camera. I wanted a small camera with a large screen and one that was not too expensive. The Casio is perfect for me. I highly recomend it! I also got a great deal on it because I bought it from Circiut City for $294 and it came with a FREE 128mb memory card! So, if you are looking the Casio is a fabulous camera!!
Casio has produced an amazingly compact camera without compromising quality and features. Throw this camera in your pocket, it is light weight and small and will enable you to capture that elusive shot when your other larger camera is sitting at home on the shelf. Great stuff Casio.
Blue Color Shift Not Fixed by unclejay ,Mar 11 '04
Pros: Small size, easy menu system Cons: Does NOT do movies, blue tinted pictures
Love everything about this Casio except...it does a miserable job of normal daylight color balance. Everything has a blue tint. Yes, I tried the software update 1.2, didnt help, and anyway it supposedly addresses a flash-only blue tint problem. I was able to get around the daylight problem by setting up a user specified scene and doing a manual white balance (with white card), then setting this program as the power-on default - but what a hassle ! So I ordered a SECOND Z4u from Costco to see if it was a lemon problem - same results. Then I ordered a Sony DSC-T1, bingo - perfect color balance. So Costco got stuck for $ 768 when I returned the 2 Casios.
I am willing to bet the average user doesn't notice color shifts. Try this - shoot a blacktop parking lot with your Z4U. The black will have a bluish tint.
Anyway, the Sony T1 is far superior in every other respect, too. Except no tripod socket. But, I digress...
Convenient Size, Long Battery Life, Fair Image Quality by barryryan88 ,Apr 25 '04
Pros: Size, battery life. Cons: Image Quality is fair at best.
I chose this camera as part of a Service Award(i.e. I got it as a gift from my company). I was looking for a camera that I could stick in my shirt pocket and go anywhere with. The EX-Z4U certainly fits that bill. It is very compact, yet with a sturdy metallic body. I enjoy the convenience of grab and go, the camera is very unobtrusive so I find that I use it a quite a bit. I would like it even more if it had a direct USB and re-charge interface. You have to put the camera in it's cradle for for those activities. Unless I am missing something in the settings, the image quality is only so so. It is capable of creating up to a 4 megapixel image, but compared to my Olympus 3040 the images stink. There is a certain lack of color and definition when compared to the Olympus.
If I had paid for it myself and it was my only digital camera I would not be too happy, but, as it is, the camera has been a great for its easy portability.
Pros: small, easy to use many picture modes people think its cool Cons: fragile. slow repairs.
I bought this camera for my girl friend I find that it is really slow at taking pictures in fast motion. But not all digital cameras are that fast. The camera I have found is to be really fragile. But of course my girlfriend is not the most graceful person in the world. I feel that the camera would hold together longer if I had it in my possession. I take many pictures with it and I love it though. Its small, the voice recording is great and its rechargeable battery is the best. I think every camera should have a rechargeable battery because digital cameras just eat through the batteries. It also has many different picture modes that I like. The other great thing about the camera is that it is so easy to use. I think you could train a monkey to use this camera.
