Highest Rated Consumer Review by the Community

  • Excellent gin product.

    Sep 17, 2004 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
    Pros: Smoothness, bouquet, complexity.
Cons: Slight departure from the traditional gin flavor.

Summary: Truly a different gin. Citadelle shows a clean, crip, vaguely floral bouguet that I would characterize as an evolution, but not a departure from the traditional juniper-intensive gin flavor. When tasting this gin for the first time, bear in ... read more

  • Citadelle a great gin

    Mar 26, 2006 by
    Rated a Helpful Review
    Pros: Great Taste!
    Cons: none

Summary: I have never been a big fan of gin having tried some cheaper brands but I decided to try Citadelle Gin to be honest I picked it up because the bottle just caught my eye. I was not expecting it to be any better than Beefeaters or Seagrams. Wow was I ... read more

  • Aromatic Bliss

    Feb 14, 2003 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
    Pros: Very aromatic, complex.
Cons: Leans a bit to the sweet side.

Summary: Did a side-by-side comparison with Bombay Sapphire and regular Tanqueray. Aroma is noticeably less alcoholic than the other two, and exceptionally more complicated (Tanq is the simplest of the three)...very floral, plus grass, straw, herbs/spices, wood, ... read more

  • I will be drinking more gin now.

    Aug 19, 2002 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Very nice taste, milder and smoother than typical gin products.
Cons: None, unless you absolutely have to have that typical mouthwash burst of London drys.

Summary: (A REVIEW for those over 21 years old and who are responsible enough to not over-indulge in alcohol. Also, responsible enough to not drink and drive.) I have always loved Tanqueray and cranberry, mostly because it has always been kind ... read more

  • Martini Madness

    Aug 16, 2001 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Very smooth - great for long nights when you don't want to punish yourself.
Cons: To expensive to not drink straight - not worth it in a G&T

Summary: My trusted and beloved bartender noticed that my regular "dry Beefeater martini straight up with a twist" was making me grimace when I took that first slug. He suggested I try the Citadelle. About 10 minutes later I was proclaiming to the whole bar ... read more

  • The French have it!

    Jun 15, 2000 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: excellent smoothness, distinctive bitter orange scent
Cons: if you're expecting a typical gin, you may be surprised at the difference in flavor

Summary: It's easy to dismiss the current super-premium spirits craze as just a fad, and in fact it may be one. I've tried numerous liquors in pretty bottles with trendy names, and only some of them seem really unique and worth the price. Citadelle ... read more

  • Good, not great.

Pros: Smooth, complex, interesting. Premium, but not overpriced.
Cons: Flavors too subtle to come through in mixers.

Summary: Quite smooth, yet not flat. It delivers great complexity when consumed straight. On the nose, it is everything a gin should be... citrus peel-junpier-astingent goodness. The anise, nutmeg and lemon peel notes comes through cleanly as soon as it ... read more

  • Citadelle wins hands-down. Best GIN going for the price.

Pros: Light, crisp, very little after taste.
    Cons: Can't think any.

Summary: Not being much of a GIN drinker I truly enjoyed my new found most favorite GIN....Citadelle hands down with out a doubt is one of the best GINs you will enjoy for the price. Typically half the price of near equivalents (Beefeaters, Bombay) and with the ... read more

  • Beautiful Taste, Beautiful Smell

    Oct 3, 2007 by

Pros: The smell heavenly, the taste soft and sublime. Ones senses are instantly delighted.
Cons: It is hard to find either in stores to purchase or in eating establishments.

Summary: By far this is the most Delicious gin I have ever had. Truly I am spoiled. It is unfortunate that more establishments do not carry this most wonderful of gins. I have experienced people who do not like gin open the bottle and delight in it's ... read more

  • Not my cup of tea, or gin in this case

    Jun 17, 2006 by
    Rated Show
Pros: Pleasant aroma, a little sweet if you like that
Cons: Price, odd flavor balance in a classic martini

Summary: Having tried, and enjoyed, Citadelle vodka, I was anxious to try their gin. I am not a big vodka drinker but really liked Citadelle in a Kangaroo (there is no such thing as a vodka martini). I recently ran out of my normal martini pour (Plymouth Gin, ... read more
