Pros: Decent speed, easy setup. Cons: Loses connection, early unexplained death
When we first got cable access, we needed a DOCSIS compliant cable modem and the first name I thought of was D-Link. Why? Well, I have been using D-Link hubs, switches and network cards since the days of Windows 95 and Mandrake 5 so I figured this ...
Pros: it lasts for a long time, minor problems, easy installation Cons: price, lost connection at least once a month
Introduction In Oct 2006, we decided to leave Verizon DSL and switched our high-speed internet service to Comcast Cable High-Speed Internet because I had a very bad experience with the Verizon customer service people regarding the DSL and phone ...
Pros: Works right out of the box. The D-Link DCM-202 broadband cable modem is fast. Cons: Gets a little hot if stacked upon another power consuming device.
We became familiar with the D-Link, DCM-202, Broadband Cable Modem when lightning struck our Comcast line and thereby destroyed our Cable modem, router, and computer. Our new experience with the D-Link, DCM-202 coaxial cable ...
There are certain things that you don’t want to notice. Cable modems are one of those things. I like staying connected to the Internet and when I’m not, I tend to take notice. There are very few things that will prevent me from being online. Power ...
Pros: Unknown... Cons: Incompatible out-of-the-box with Comcast!
First, let me say that I LIKE D-Link's products alot. Thier router configured itself even before the CD tray retracted! And thier KVM Switch is on par with units costing hundreds more! THIS Product is the offspring of a union with Satan, I am sure! In ...
Pros: Speed, solid connection, easy to update firmware. Cons: Having to update the firmware.
I was planning converting from DSL to cable internet and I did not want to buy a modem from Comcast at about $140.00. I finally settled on this modem for two reasons. 1. My network includes a D-link router and D-link wireless cards and I assumed that ...
Pros: Although bad for heat dissipation, I guess it's stylish. Cons: It does not work continuously. Dies sporadically and does not recover. Terrible interface.
I recently moved and this meant that I had to replace the cable modem I was borrowing. I own a DI-524 Wireless Router that has been functional if not completely delightful. Let's just say I've had even more horrifying experiences with other routers. With ...
Pros: None. Cons: It's very likely that It won't work.
After a power surge destroyed my original cable modem, (a Belkin)I went to Officemax to buy a replacement. The DCM-202 was the only one that was in stock at the time and the claims on the box looked impressive so I bought it. After I got home I ...
Pros: Cheaper than the others. Works well. Cons: None really.
I am a Comcast internet user. I have read about all the problems on the internet people were having using this modem with Comcast internet service. I bought this modem at Best Buy for $59.99 with a $10 rebate. This is cheaper than the $80 they were ...
Pros: Obscenely fast transfer rate, rock solid connection, easy setup Cons: For Comcast customers, requires firmware upgrade
My cable company is Charter and the free rental period on a Motorola SB4100 was about to expire so I purchased this modem. Called the cable company to update my MAC. Plugged it in and within 2 minutes I was online. It couldn't have been simpler. ...
Pros: Small, Compact size
Had a good rebate Cons: Un-reliable problematic modem.
Gets really HOT when laying on it's side.
I originally purchased this for my brother. I was initially impressed by the small size so instead of provisioning it for him, I decided to keep it & set him up with my very reliable Toshiba pcx2200. 1st problem: Would not link up with Cox at all. ...
Pros: Low-Cost, 24/7 Technical Support, FAST signal acquisition Cons: Having to send-in rebate
I've had the modem for about five days now. Hooking it up was a snap. It detected the cable signal nearly instantly. This, as compared to the RCA cable modem I was leasing through Comcast which would take between 10 seconds and 2 minutes to acquire ...
Pros: cheap. Cons: network drops consistently (about twice a day)
I purchased this modem back in October. It cost me $54, but it promised a $20 rebate. I received the product in Mid July 2006 and I sent the rebate. Today, December 20, I still have not received the rebate. I called their rebate center back in September and I was told that it got "lost in the mail". So i sent it again. Three months later, they gave me the same story, "it got lost in the mail". I have decided not to waste my time on $20. Do not be fooled with the rebate promise because it won't happen.
besides that, the network connection drops about twice a day. For the money, I guess it's a good buy. But I would have much rather spent an extra ten or twenty dollars and bought something more reliable from a company that doesnt try to con its customers.
Pros: nice transfer speeds Cons: keeps disconnecting during downloads, gets WAY too hot, no TurboDox software
I've had a lot of cable modems but this one is just crap. All it did was disconnect during downloads. I would pass on this and get the DCM-201. D-Link really dropped the ball on this one. The modem also gets real hot. The transfer speed were decent but that doesn't mean anything when it keeps disconnecting. This modem also claims to have TurboDox software which is a lie. TurboDox is just a ploy to get you to buy the modem. Avoid this modem at all costs
Neither Fail-Safe nor Fail-Seldom by samsuitt ,Feb 24 '07
Pros: Ease of use, small packaging footprint, indicator labeling clarity. Cons: Runs hot. Early mortality.
Made in China. That should say it all. I had this modem for just over a year. Pointedly, that took it just beyond the warranty. While it lasted, it ran well, but hot. Then, the converter in the AC power cord failed, nearly bursting into flames. Unfortunately, it failed in a mode that took the modem out with it. Thus, I got to replace not just the $15 power cord, but the whole modem. Needless to say, I purchased a different brand, with a 3-year warranty. But, it is also made in China, like everything now.
