Pros: Web interface: good. IP surveillance software: OK. Overall happy with this camera. Cons: Hangs or very long pauses on motion detection. IP surveillance software could be more intuitive.
First let me give a brief (er... not so brief) overview and then I will give my thoughts on the camera itself. DLink, who is the manufacturer of this camera, has made a line of wired and wireless cameras that connect directly to your network. They ...

Pros: Reliable, simple to use, clear picture Cons: Zoom is worthless, Wireless is impractical DHCP fixed address was a problem for me.
I have four different video cameras. Two Dlink's and the 5300 is the pick of the litter, the price they command on EBAY is testament to that. Simple to setup with static IP, IF you know networking. If you don't, it could be a challenge. (port ...

Good image, poor firmware design
by u7yt5 ,Apr 25 '05
Pros: Good picture quality and controls Cons: Poor firmware if used by more than the administrator. Firmware upgrades can cause unexpected problems.
Out of the box the camera worked, but had some unusual programing problems. For example, only the administrator could rotate and tilt the camera using arrows that would move the camera a predetermined amount to the left, right, top, or bottom. Giving all external viewers access as administrators was not appropriate since they could change all settings on the camera.
After a firmware upgrade it had more issues and had to be returned. Support seemed to be from outside the United States, and although friendly, they were not very helpful. Ultimately they had to send a new camera. The new one still had the same arrow problem, but I could program predetermined areas from a drop-down menu for the external users of the camera.
The camera lasted just over a year before it stopped moving up and down. The warranty was for just one year, so I was out of luck.
The image quality is good about ten-fifteen feet out from the location, it gets more difficult to distinguish details over fifteen from the location.
