  • We're cooking, now........3 months later.......NOT!!

    Apr 15, 2004 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Precise heat control. Very high output. Easy to clean, very attractive design.
Cons: Initial burner ignition problems. (UPDATE: Graphics around knobs wipe off with cleaners containing ammonia)

Summary: We purchased this cooktop for our new house back in Nov. '03. Had it installed in December '03. Had intermittent burner ignition problems from day one. Called DCS in January who sent out a contracted technician. The guy was pretty incompetent to say ... read more

  • Yikes! I won't buy DCS again (or Fisher Paykel for that matter)

    Sep 23, 2009 by
    Not yet rated.
Pros: It will cook at extremely high heat quite nicely
Cons: burner inconsistency, rubber feet fall off, needed marking comes off, no low heat.

Summary: We purchased our DCS cooktop in late 2003, and had troubles with igniting burners from the beginning (must use a lighter to get it turned on about 50% of the time).  Also, I was never happy with the low and simmer levels.  It was just too too ... read more

  • If you're not having an affair with your repairperson, don't bother getting this cooktop

    Jul 19, 2006 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Attractive design, relatively easy to clean, 17,000 BTU power burner, good low simmer
Cons: Design flaws, component reliability, frequent service calls

Summary: My wife and I are accomplished cooks and bakers. We have each been cooking for about 45 years, and I have been an artisan bread baker for 29 years. Prior to building a new 350+ square foot kitchen completed 18 months ago (December 2004), we spent over ... read more

  • I wish I'd read these reviews before I bought this cooktop!

    Sep 26, 2005 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: high heat, 4 burners are the same size, center large burner, continuous grate, cool-looking knobs
Cons: Erratic & unreliable ignition, continuous clicking, difficult to clean area around burners

Summary: I purchased my cooktop in Nov.'03 and have had ignition problems since day one. DCS has sent repair people 8 times, I have had the burner kits replaced twice - those replace the 4 outside burners, not the center. The problem persists. I am currently ... read more

  • No problems whatsoever

    Aug 5, 2005 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: High BTU center burner. Looks great. Efficient continuous grates. Auto re-ignite. Super low simmer.
Cons: Challenging to clean, Strange placement of left-hand burner controls.

Summary: I purchased my 5-burner DCS cooktop from Home Depot Expo in May, 2005. After a couple days I was told the unit was on backorder (6 to 8 weeks)--which was a disappointment. However less than 2 weeks later I get a call from the Expo informing me that my ... read more

  • Frequent Repairs

    May 29, 2005 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: On-light indicator, all burner w/true simmer, center high BTU burner w/wok ring, continuous grates.
    Cons: Bad workmanship, reliability, service.

Summary: This cooktop was purchased Home Depot Expo for holiday cooking. The large turn knobs, luminated blue "on" indicator, the "WOK HOT" center burner, and the "true simmer" mode of all burners attracted me. The interlocking grates accommodated large pots. ... read more

Pros: Attractive and cooks well. High quality materials.
Cons: None of the internal parts are accessible for repair.

Summary: This cooktop is a pleasure to use, when it works. On ours, four of the five burners have worked fine for over 3 years. Unfortunately, the fifth and largest stopped working just after the warranty ran out. That is when we discovered, after our repairman ... read more

  • Rubber Feet for DCS CT-365 Cooktop Grates

    Jan 26, 2011 by
    Not rated yet
    Pros: Good cooktop.
Cons: None really, other than minor parts support from manufacturer.

Summary: Lots of entries about lack of parts support for replacing the rubber feet on gas burner grates.  Don't try going to DCS supply houses or direct to New Zealand home office for the rubber feet, they don't stock them anymore. Here's where you ... read more

  • Rubber Feet and Graphic problems

    Feb 19, 2010 by
    Rated Show
Pros: Style is good.  Low simmer works quite well.
Cons: Bad grate footing design, poorly marked control knobs.

Summary: Like many others on this site, the rubber feet keep falling off, causing the grates to scratch the stainless steel. They can be glued on with silicone but still fall off in a short time.  The graphics on the base of the control knobs wore off, even ... read more

  • Problems from the start that have just become worse.

    Dec 19, 2009 by
    Rated Show
Pros: Good high and low heat options.
Cons: Automactic ignition rarely works. Poorly designed. Customer service is the worst.

Summary: This cooktop has been a problem from the start and now that Fisher Paykel has bought DCS, customer service has gone down the tubes as well.  Besides the problem that the burners don't light half the time, the rubber feet on the bottom of the grates ... read more

Pros: Fabulous simmer control on all burners.
    Easy to clean.
    Cons: Lettering wears off easily.

Summary: I absolutely love this cooktop.  This is, as far as I know the only brand that has offers simmer (140 degrees) on all six burners.  It offers a strong 17.500 BTUs max.  It's a breeze to clean.  We have had it for 5 years and haven't ... read more

  • Never buy products from companies that wont sell replacement parts.

    May 29, 2009 by

    Pros: Nice looking.
Cons: Rubber feet fall off. DCS doesn't offer replacements.

Summary: I had to add my 2 cents with the others that are unhappy with DCS products. I liked our DCS Gas Cooktop until I went to replace 2 of the rubber feet of the cook top grates. DCS support told me I had to buy 3 new grates for $150 because they don't off ... read more

  • No Issues, Great Style and Function

    Mar 7, 2009 by
    Rated Show
    Pros: Price, control, simmer, styling
Cons: interlocked grate system takes a little getting used to when removing.

Summary: Excellent and uniform heat.  Layout is good for manageing multiple dishes at same time.  I like that there is a simmer function on all burners (not just two as on some cooktops we looked at).  Prefer the controls on the side versus in ... read more

  • A great cooktop

    Mar 1, 2008 by
    Rated Show
Pros: Nice design, heavy duty, easy to clean.
Cons: No serious, just replacing a rubber foot occasionally.

Summary: We started using this model in September 2005. The burners have very high output, and we rarely use them past a quarter of the way open. The simmer setting is the best we have ever had in a gas unit, but still can boil too hard with some dishes that ... read more

Pros: Great heat output, good style
Cons: hard to clean, rubber feet

Summary: Purchased in July 2005. Great output, this thing can boil water faster than any cooktop we have ever used. Great control on simmer and low settings. A little difficult to keep clean. Only downside is the rubber feet are half gone and we have had to ... read more

Pros: Good heat, easy to clean, clean look
Cons: rubber feet on grill plates fall off, decals on the control knobs rub off,

Summary: Some say 'don't sweat the little things' but it is the little things that will give you a headache with a DSC cooktop. In less than two years I have had to replace the control knobs 3 times and am replacing them for a fourth time right now. The black ... read more

Pros: Great burner outputs. A *real* simmer! NO ignition trouble. Cleaning easy..a selling point.
Cons: Needs better paint for the graphics. All indicators will vanish after a few cleanings.

Summary: Great cook top that we love! Stainless beauty! Ours sits well in black stone and has terrific heat outputs: The MAX (17,500 BTU) is great and we can really simmer! The paint on the knobs needs to be improved! It vanishes after several ... read more

Pros: High center burner power, simmer capability, continuous grating, control knobs away from cooking area
    Cons: expensive

Summary: I am not sure where all of the negative reviews are coming from on this unit. I have had mine for about one year and have had none of the problems the other reviewers have eluded too. This is a high end unit and it performs like it. I love the center ... read more

Pros: Great high heat and simmer. It looks and feels great.
Cons: Hard to clean -esp near ignitors. Rubber pads break off often

Summary: I've had my DCS 5-burner cooktop for two years. The unit has wonderful features. I chose it because of the high heat from the middle burner and the wonderful simmer setting on all the burners. The problem started in the first month, however, and still ... read more
