Pros: Performance, features, looks, MP3 playback, VCD/XVCD and CD-R/W playback Cons: Only 2 slow and 3 fast scan speeds, no WMA support
The Sony DVP-NS315 is a slim DVD player, which, as many other Sony products, looks cool. It is available in black or silver color and sells for the same amount of money as Panasonic RV32.
Pros: Ultra low-profile, solid performance and good flexibility and CDR/MP3 compatibility Cons: Inexplicably, no digital-optical out, different control-layout means more remote dependant
Sony has taken a nice new direction with their line of DVD players... In the name of keeping up with the Jones's (or Panasonics, JVC's and others) They've added CDR/CDRW and MP3 playback to a huge portion of their line, which includes far more than...
Pros: Great picture quality, slim chassis, easy to use, inexpensive. Cons: Only 1 set of analog audio outputs.
This is a fairly basic DVD player, but it's cheap, it gets the job done, it has a component-video output, and it's a Sony, which are the main features I was looking for in a DVD player. Picture looks great through the component video output. However ...
Pros: Easy to use, simple remote, plenty of features for the average user. Cons: None so far. This player will last me for years, I think.
I searched for 2-3 months for my first DVD player. I didn't know much of anything about the various manufacturers, models or features. I wanted to learn as much as possible before making my investment. I was stuck between the Toshiba 2800 and the JVC 300B ...
Pros: Slim, Great Price. Supports many formats. Simple Cons: Not many features.
Sony has did it again with this low cost DVD player. Supports DVD, CD-R, VCD, MP3, and SVCD. It doesnt support WMA, but who cares. Simple and very easy to use. You can't beat the quality and the price. It doesnt have all the features of more...
Pros: attractive design, high performance, low price Cons: none
I received this DVD player for Christmas and have been quite pleased with it so far. It has a good design, with a very attractive look. It is sleek and lightweight. Its thin size makes it easy to fit into the entertainment center. It was easy to set...
Pros: Simple to use and set up. Great sound and picture. Cons: No zoom.
Got this baby on a sweet deal ($59.95 new) and we are using it as a second unit in our bedroom. Takes every format imaginable (including MPG, VCD, DVD-R, and DVD-RW). Our first unit is a Toshiba SD2200 2-disc unit and it has served us well.
Pros: Cheap / Plays MP3's / CD's Cons: Does not allow fast forward in previews
I just bought this player and at first was totally impressed with it until I played my first new release. The new release started with previews (which I hate), I quickly grabbed the remote and hit the fast forward button...to my utter amazement, a...
Pros: Plays many different formats of recorded media Cons: Laser too sensitive; gets stuck on rental DVD's that aren't perfect.
I rented 2 DVD's from Blockbuster and the Sony got stuck (picture froze) halfway thru both. I returned the unit for a new one thinking the first unit was defective and the exact same thing happened with the second unit. I then asked the store rep. to...
Pros: Good starter DVD player. Cons: Don't buy if you want to play MP3 disks.
This is a very good inexpensive, entry level DVD player with basic functionality. Have not had a problem playing any movies. My only problem so far is that I can not get it to shuffle play MP3's, and also there is a a built in limit of 200 folders/tracks on a disk that it can recognize, so it can't play an entire MP3 disk.
Pros: Very easy to use for your first DVD player Cons: Not for those with advanced TV's or specialized needs
The other reviews here are consistent in describing this model's performance. It has been a reliable machine for me as it's my first DVD player. The FF/Rew knob on the front does seem like a waste of effort, as it doesn't allow you to control scan speed. But also consider one would use the remote 99% of the time anyway. The images are very clear for my newer flat screen TV. I haven't had a need yet for anything more sharp. Maybe when someone buys a plasma TV for me.
I bought it in black to match my VCR. The silver ones are more popular. They are the same price. I'm not sure why the remote has a different design from its TV and VCR counterparts. It is lighter in weight, though. Overall, I like it and would buy it again.
I would recommend this model especially for Sony-philes who are buying their first DVD player. It's simple to use if you're brainy enough to program a VCR as well. If not, it's not 100% inherent, but is close enough.
Pros: Cheap.
Reliable. Cons: Poor CD performance.
Difficult to control with remote.
This is my first DVD player, it was cheap and it was a Sony. Unfortunately the remote does not work with my Sony Trinitron. Some of the functions like repeat and shuffle (CD Playback) are buried deep in the menu structure. The buttons on the player itself are iffy in function. It is very sensitive to dirty discs and the audio from CDs is poor when compared to my older Teac CD player.
I'm currently looking for something a little nicer and I probably will not be looking at Sony.
