This is a very good inexpensive, entry level DVD player with basic functionality. Have not had a problem playing any movies. My only problem so far is that I can not get it to shuffle play MP3's, and also there is a a built in limit of 200 folders/tracks on a disk that it can recognize, so it can't play an entire MP3 disk.

This DVD player are nothing exceptionnal, but work properly. You have all usual video/audio connections (except optical).

The remote don't have number or channel button, so you couldn't use it effectively with a TV (new Sony DVD's corrected that).

The other reviews here are consistent in describing this model's performance. It has been a reliable machine for me as it's my first DVD player. The FF/Rew knob on the front does seem like a waste of effort, as it doesn't allow you to control scan speed. But also consider one would use the remote 99% of the time anyway. The images are very clear for my newer flat screen TV. I haven't had a need yet for anything more sharp. Maybe when someone buys a plasma TV for me.

I bought it in black to match my VCR. The silver ones are more popular. They are the same price. I'm not sure why the remote has a different design from its TV and VCR counterparts. It is lighter in weight, though. Overall, I like it and would buy it again.

I would recommend this model especially for Sony-philes who are buying their first DVD player. It's simple to use if you're brainy enough to program a VCR as well. If not, it's not 100% inherent, but is close enough.

This is my first DVD player, it was cheap and it was a Sony. Unfortunately the remote does not work with my Sony Trinitron. Some of the functions like repeat and shuffle (CD Playback) are buried deep in the menu structure. The buttons on the player itself are iffy in function. It is very sensitive to dirty discs and the audio from CDs is poor when compared to my older Teac CD player.

I'm currently looking for something a little nicer and I probably will not be looking at Sony.

This particular model(I have the NS315B, which is simply the same model in black.If color scheme is important, I suggest you specify)is excellent in its ease of use and performance. It performs very well in the playback of all formats both in audio and picture quality. The remote is simple and easy to manipulate. Universal remotes have codes for this particular model (I have several univerals). Connects several ways to various components using various cables and jacks. It has a thin body so that it can fit nicely into tight shelf spacings. In a nutshell the model delivers exactly what it promises for a nice price. First DVD player? Buy it.

I got this player home and had it up and running in less than 5 minutes. The first DVD I played was a badly scratched Netflix rental(it looked like someone had taken sandpaper to it). It played it without a single skip or pause! The picture and sound quality are both exceptional. The player has all the features an average user will ever need: 5 picture settings you can flip through while a DVD is playing, a neat "resume" feature: you can stop a DVD, turn off the player, even remove the DVD and the player will STILL remember where you left off! The remote is simple to understand and fool-proof...etc. I'm glad I made this my first DVD player! You can't go wrong like others have with "other" brands. Read some reviews of other manufacturer's players and avoid a similar nightmare for yourself by buying a Sony with the precision 2 drive system. Easy to use, plays any DVD, even if it is badly scratched. Simple, uncomplicated, reliable, good-looking and inexpensive.

This is the best entry-level DVD player I have found, and I've researched and tested dozens. The biggest plus is that it plays DVD-R discs that I recorded on a Pioneer DVD Recorder (DVD-7000). So far I have purchased a number of the Sony DVP-NS315's to give as gifts, and everyone likes 'em. Of course it also plays your store-bought or rented DVDs, and the quality is excellent.

Fun, cool, new, and easy to use. Makes watching old movies more fun. It's good with children because they can use it. The first time I used it, I couldn't figure it out until my 4-year-old came up behind me and pushed the button to open it up. The buttons are pretty small, but once you find each one, they are good.

The Sony NS315 is a very stylish looking product, but maybe a little long. The picture quality is excellent and the sound quality and feature set is also very good. I'd have to give this product an overall rating of 4 due to the fact that I can't choose 4.5 and although it's very good it's not perfect so I can't give it a 5.
