Nice Unit But....
by kencharles ,Feb 16 '04
Pros: Excellent Sound, Good Storage Capacity, Easy Navigation
Cons: Supports MP3's and WMA Only. Big mp3 files suck the juice up.
This is a great unit. I hope it does well for Dell. But it needs to support other file formats for it to be truely great. With mp4's and ACC. I have bought music from iTunes, and it won't work with those files. I transfered my cd's to AAC and they won't play. Also larger MP3's seem to really suck up the juice (since most of my files in MP3's are encoded at 168 kbps).

The other features work just fine. It was easy to navigate, get around. Adjust the sound with the equalizer, and charging the battery is a breeze. The size is right and the display is more than adequate.

However, I'm returning it. When I placed the order, the customer service represenative said it plays all formats which isn't true. Maybe for Windows users it does. But I got both platforms here. I'm getting an iPod since they added 5 gig to the 10 gb model.

If your happy and content with playing just mp3's and wma formats. This is an excellent player. But Dell needs to get with the program and be compatable with all file formats.

Great MP3 Player
by simpson_99 ,Apr 15 '04
Pros: Small, compact and sturdy. Great ergonomics, FANTASTIC battery life. Plays both Mp3 and WMA
Cons: Musicmatch software is buggy and prone to crashing.
So I've had the 15GB Jukebox for a little over a week now and I'm thoroughly impressed. The battery life is amazing. I've been running it for days without a recharge. The Jukebox has a nice ergonomic feel to it, and the user interface is capable. The sound quality is excellent, although I wish you were able to fine tune the EQ a bit more. The low end seems to lack any punch with the bundled earbuds. It probably would sound better with better headphones. It supports both Mp3 *and* Wma files, which is great because I've been backing up all of my CDs to WMA files. 15 GB is a lot of room, too.

The only drawback to the jukebox is the Musicmatch software. Eegah, what an awful thing that is. I upgraded to 8.2, which seems a bit more stable, but I haven't used it enough to tell for sure. Musicmatch would often crash while updating the library, transferring songs to the jukebox, and it even crashed when I opened Windows Media Player. Also, it constantly nags you to purchase the "plus" version, which has a few extra bells and whistles.

QUirkY and Unreliable
by davydanger ,Apr 15 '04
Pros: Cheaper than an Ipod. I liked it for the few minutes it worked.
Cons: Doesn't work. Mine is a $200 paperweight
I was very excited to buy this product given all the positive reviews but my experience has been very disappointing. This product did not perform correctly for even one day. It freezes in the middle of songs and then becomes unresponsive. It shuts itself down and then will not start up again until I reconnect it to the computer. This does not make it very portable, which is the whole point. I'm sure that mine is just a defective product and nobody buts 1000, but I will be returning mine for a full refund so that I can buy an Ipod.

Fantastic Product
by umheyhowyadoin ,Apr 12 '04
Pros: Battery life, large screen, voice recording, price, size, look and feel
Cons: musicmatch
I received the Dell DJ about 2 days ago and I am completely satisfied with my purchase. I got it on sale for $199 at Dell.com. It is a little bigger than the ipod, but at $100 cheaper, who's going to complain? The screen is huge and easy to read and the organization on the DJ is pretty good as long as you have your ID3 tags done well. Its pretty portable for what it is. Its fits in my pocket nicely. The voice recording works better than I expected it to. The recorded files are easily transfered off the Dell into a computer using windows explorer. One thing I love more than anything is the battery life. It lasts for about 16 hrs. My only gripe would have to be with musicmatch. That software is junk. Redchair software makes a nice program called "Dudebox" that you can use with the Dell DJ. Its much better than musicmatch and it doesn't restrict the things you can do with your DJ like musicmatch does. All in all, the Dell DJ is a great product.

Anyone who likes music...
by calcer5 ,Apr 12 '04
Pros: Price, stile, usability
Cons: firmware updates
This is one of the best mp3 players out there. After seeing the Dell DJ, why go Ipod? This totally undercuts the ipod in price, and offers the same quality. You can store more than enough songs, and look good listening to them. Dell did a great job on the design and the ease of use. This is a great mp3 player, and will serve all your needs. The only problem, is that Dell needs to create firmware updates more often

Lacking functions
by hiro24 ,Jul 12 '04
Pros: Good battery life, seems stable. Good drive size.
Cons: No ID3 editing after MP3 downloads, no search engine, EASY TO LOSE YOUR SONGS ON.
Am I the only one that thinks the Dell DJ lacks seriously in the usability category? It's fine to use the scrolling button in the center to pick out songs, and the battery life is great, but the major downfall I feel is trying to work with files after they are sent to the DJ. After uploading my rather hefty collection of MP3s (a painful process that took around 4 hrs total) I find that many of my ID3 tags are wrong or, just not there. Can I fix it now? NO! If I could go in through MusicMatch and edit the tags that would be great, but I can't. I can't even pull the MP3s back from the DJ. My only recourse is to delete a file, edit the ID3 tag and resend it. I mean.. come on! Not to mention the DJ lacks any kind of a basic search function (other than grouping alphabetically... really??)

The thing that can beat an I-POD
by jake_erickson ,Mar 09 '04
Pros: Too many to list...
Cons: NONE
In my or any other smart person's opinion, the Dell Digital Jukebox can whoop the i-pod anyday of the week. For one, Dell is a more reliable brand, and also, the DJ is cheaper. 15 gigabyte of the DJ is 250, which is the same price as the 10 gigabyte i-pod. 15 gigabyte i-pod is the same price as the 20 gigabyte i-pod. basicly, i-pod is not as good as the DJ

So Far So Good
by ekrl ,Nov 08 '04
Pros: Big 15 gig hard drive. Nice closeout price on Dell.com Great battery life
Cons: Heavy, No carry case, Hard to figure out how to transfer song to playlist
Overall a very good MP3 player. Nice amount of storage for the hundreds of song I have. Somewhat hard to figure out how to transfer a song already loaded to playlist.

I already had MusicMatch so I was very at ease using this product.

I got this on a closeout deal off dell.com. I think it was a steal considering about 6 months ago I bought a Creative Lab Nomad 256mb for $30 less.

Dell 15g Digital Jukebox
by ashleyee100 ,May 02 '04
Pros: Great Battery Life, Great Back light, Great Sound, Great Size,
Cons: The Earphones That Come With It They Are Too Big For My Ears!
First Of All You Have to Know How to use it, Like One Of the Things A person Said was "you can't Listen To All the Songs Without creating A Separate Play list " Well i Can Solve that Just Click On Play mode And Click On Normal And that Solves The Problem, And It's Battery Life Is great And The Sound Is Awesome. And The Price Is Great! The Only Thing I don't like is that It Doesn't ’t Come with a Carrying Case. And I Love That It Has A Voice Recorder It's So Cool I Can Record My Little Niece Singing Her Favorite Song I Love That!

Best Electronics Purchase of My Life
by msreiter ,Jul 01 '04
Pros: Holds thousands of songs Super Easy to use great software provided
Cons: No carrying case Plays everything in alphabetical order No car charger
My wife had a regular MP3 player and she got me the Dell 15gb DJ for Father's Day. I haven't put it down. It goes everywhere I go. Obviously you can use it with headphones. I use it when I mow the lawn, on airplanes, waiting on her at the store, working on the computer, anywhere. In the car I use a cassette style adapter (yeah my car still has a cassette player), so I haven't had to try the FM transmitter yet. Anywhere you can find an "audio in" you can hook this thing up. Technically speaking I would like there to be more choices in the custom EQ setting, but I love the ability to choose music by artist, album, song, genre or artist by album. You can shuffle play or play in order. I love it.

DIDNT WORK..SENT IT BACK..DIDNT WORK AGAIN
by ols1784 ,Sep 15 '04
Pros: Good Battery Life Holds Alot of Songs
Cons: Froze on me twice Terrible Customer Service Heavy/Bulky Fragile
I got the DJ and uploaded the songs (which took about 6 hours considering its impossible to upload songs to it from your cd collection) you can pretty much only upload songs from your computer, unless you have alot of time. I also wasnt pleased about how bulky and heavy it was. One day, it froze on me and had an error message on the screen. I called Dell and told them of the problem and they sent me a new one as I sent my current one back. I spent what seemed like 3 days straight uploading the songs again and it froze again. Than they gave me a hard time when I asked for my money back and made me spend my own money to send the broken DJ back. Stay Away

Very Satisfied Customer! Dell DJ is Awesome!
by skiguyjer ,Apr 27 '04
Pros: Affordable, Storage capacity, Solid Construction, Battery life approx. 20 hours, Bright Blue Backlight, Easy Navigation
Cons: Built-in Battery, Weight, No FM tuner, Albums do not play in order
I wanted an mp3 player that I could listen to in the car as well as workout with in the gym and I have definitely found it! I've had my Dell DJ for a little over a month now and I can tell you that it is well worth the money. I bought an FM Transmitter so I could listen to it in my car and the sound quality is great. I also bought a Dell Action Jacket so I could strap it to my arm while I'm running or working out in the gym and that works really well too. For those that are looking for an mp3 player strictly for working out, you may want to look elsewhere. The Dell DJ may be a little to bulky and heavy for you. None the less, I'm a very satisfied customer.

Dislike Musicmatch?
by cflan33 ,Aug 02 '04
Pros: Not an ipod, Battery life, Display
Cons: Heavy, earbuds, shuffle program sux
For anyone who has a Dell DJ and does not like the bundled software (very few people do) Check out Red Chair Software. They make a product for almost all mp3 players. I've been using red chair with my Creative Jukebox for over a year now and it's great. When they added Dell to their list, I bought a DJ the next day. Redchairsoftware.com Software is called Dudebox explorer.

Great Investment ! ! 'get sucked into an I Pod
by snoball900 ,Aug 29 '04
Pros: Price, Good looks, Much longer battery life than I POD, Great Warranty, Customer service
Cons: Music Match Software that it uses is not as nice as apple I tunes
This product works great! I was debating between the I POD and the Dell DJ and chose the DJ based on its price superiority. It's a little larger than the I POD but hardly noticeable unless you need to run with it and you only wear spandex full suits. Personally, I use it while I snowboard. I've never had any issues with it, while on the hill. If I make a long enough play-list I often times forget its on me. (not too bulky) I even fell a couple times this season, on it, while jumping 60' + gaps and never was able to break it.
