Pros: Flat panel allows for crisp, clear viewing with little glare; takes up less desk space! Cons: I only wish we could have afforded a larger size!
We purchased our latest Dell computer desktop system (a Dimension 2400 series) during the Christmas 2003 season as our previous Compaq
model was slowly becoming outdated. So the kids got the old computer ...

Pros: Inexpensive, good quality, and its a Dell Cons: No DVI input or height adjustment
Update: Today I would buy the DELL UltraSharp 1704FPV 17-inch Flat Panel LCD Monitor with Height Adjustable Stand instead of the Dell E173 Flat Panel monitor. The 1704 includes both the D-sub connection and the DVI connection. Both cables are ...

2 yr old died!
by specialkay951 ,Mar 04 '06
Pros: Low price, great picture. Cons: Only lasted me 2 yrs.
After almost exactly 2 yrs, my monitor died! I thought it was a simple bulb or something related because 6 months ago it started to turn on and off for no apparent reason. We would have to hit it and then it would stay on. This happened a few times per week. Well, finally last month it shut off completely. If I turned it on it would be on for only 1 second and shut off completely. Someone took a look at it for me and said the main board had to be replaced!

Good Value and Performance
by skidude514 ,Jan 17 '05
Pros: Good image quality, relatively low price Cons: poor adjustability
Although not a cutting-edge monitor as far as the technical specifications are concerned, this monitor has performed very well in my home office and was a very good price. I have a work laptop that I use at home frequently. It works well except for the fact that the screen is only 12 inches diagonally. This would be great if I were a little bit younger, but at my age the size of everything on the small screen is hard on my eyes. This monitor remedied that problem entirely. I can use it for hours on end without any eye strain. In addition, using it for the occasional DVD, i can also attest to its capabilities at showing video and images as well. They look beautiful. The monitor does not have a great deal of adjustability, but this has not been a huge problem for me. It was so easy to install too! I did not have to hassle with installing any new software. I plugged it into the back of my docking station and into the wall and it worked immediately and flawlessly. Overall, this monitor is worth considering for its combination of price and performance.

Good "Bang" or the Buck
by nascomfub ,Jan 18 '06
Pros: Excellent economy buy. Cons: It won't compete with more expensive digital LCD monitors.
If you take price in to consideration, the E173FP is a great LCD monitor. Other reviews I have read are harsh and criticize the analog LCD with negative comments about quality or view angle. After having seen them and used them for a few weeks, I completely disagree with these reviews. I wouldn't want to game on the E173FP, but it is fine for all other purposes. The view angle has not been a problem and I am actually surprised by the quality and sharpness of the picture it provides. I give it a five out of five. If you get anything nicer in a low profile LCD, you'll be paying more money for it.

Great
by dmmcintyre3 ,Jul 29 '08
Pros: Cheap, lasts long, good quality Cons: dim after 4 years VGA connection even with the computer it came with included DVI
It has lasted 4 years and after 4 years my only complaint is that it has gotten dimer than it was when I bought it. My 4 year old Laptop screen is brighter and I have seen a 7 year old laptop with a even brighter screen than this monitor after 4 years It even works with Mac. I ave used it without issues on 4 computers (1 dell desktop Apple PowerMac G3 Apple iBook G4 and Apple PowerBook G4 Titanium with cracked screen)
