PURCHASED MY 8600 THREE WEEKS AGO AND WOW!! THIS THING ROCKS . FIRST MY SPECS 1.7 PENT.M, 512 RAM, WIN XP PRO, WSXGA DISPLAY SHIPPED WITH A 60GB 4200RPM HD BUT I UPGRADED TO A 60 GB 7200 RPM DRIVE. IM INTO VIDEO EDITING AND NEEDED SOMETHING PORTABLE SO I COULD WORK ON THE RUN. AFTER LOTS OF RESEARCH I WENT WITH THE 8600 . THIS LAPTOP ROCKS. JUST TO STRESS TEST THINGS I WAS COPYING MUSIC FILES TO MY HARD DRIVE , RUNNING A PREVIEW OF A PROJECT IN AFTER EFFECTS AND A PROJECT IN ADOBE AUDITION. THE MACHINE DIDNT FLINCH !! SINCE I RECEIVED THE MACHINE HAVE BEEN WONDERING WHY I EVEN HAVE MY DESKTOP ! (DELL DIMENSION 8300 3.2 HT 1G RAM 250HD 120 HD 9800 XT PRO ) TESTED THE TWO SIDE BY SIDE AND THE LAPTOP BOOTS , OPENS PROGRAMS FASTER!! ILL KEEP THE DESKTOP FOR THE STORAGE AND IT DOES A DAMN GOOD JOB WITH THE GAMES. YEAH, THIS LAPTOP FOR ME IS WELL WORTH THE CASH.

I received my notebook last week and it has already exceeded my expectations. I got a great deal on the computer and it has all the features I was looking for and more. I really like the wireless internet card and not having to worry about the battery power since it has a 6 hour plus battery life. The weight of the computer is not bad at all. It was the main thing I was worried about since I bought this computer to use on the go. It sits very comfortably in my lap and the weight is well distributed to create a perfect balance. I fell in love with the big screen the moment i laid my eyes on it. It is very wide and it makes me forget that I am on a laptop at all. Even though I haven't had the computer for very long yet, I would certainly recommend this model. I have always valued Dell's reputation and this computer seems to be no less.

I've had my Inspiron for over a year now and I can honestly say, I love it!

In the year I've owned it, I have only called Dell Service twice. The first time was to get it registered in my name. The second was to set up the Wi-Fi. Both times I received quick, prompt service from Dell.

I have had no problems with the unit at all. The screen is absolutely HUGE and perfect for playing DVD's. The sound system is nice and so-so loud (easily fixable with a pair of external speakers). No problems with software, hardware, or anything else.

In fact, I've been so impressed I've recommended Dell to my family and now, each of my sisters have purchased one!

Pros: This seems to be a very durable product.
Cons: The volume control buttons and DVD control buttons don't work well.

I have been carrying my 8600 in a rolling bag, with a laptop case inside it for about 2.5 years. I pull the bag up over curbs on a regular basis. I shuttle the laptop between work
and home 3-4 times per week, and I have had no problems
with reliability. I purchased this refurbished direct from Dell.

Pros: Great deal, easy to use, wonderful battery life

We purchased the Inspiron 8600 8 months ago, I am a student and I have been very impresses at how fast it processes info and its long battery life (this is a must when hauling the lap top hither and yon across campus). The battery lasts at least 4-6 hours. The other thing I LOVE is the graphics. It is great to watch movies on when traveling and such, and it has been great for Autocad and Photoshop homework. I have also been very impressed with its durability and the durability of the Dell we purchased 4 years earlier (that computer is also still working great without any problems). It does come with a 1 year warranty... but we chose to purchase the three year warranty just to be safe. I also like its sleek style and its
type keys are easy to use (they feel more like a regular key board than other lap tops I have used). My only complaint is that it is a bit heavier than other lap tops I have lugged around. I have been very pleased with our purchase!
