Pros: Fast printing, quick setup, reliable.
Cons: Somewhat noisy, long warmup time.

Summary: Prior to owning this printer, I had a Brother HL1440 laser printer which was OK for my purposes at home. However, I was given the opportunity to work with the Dell 1700 at my workplace for a year while I filled in for an employee on leave of absence. I ... read more

Pros: Works with Windows, Mac, and LinuxToner lasts a long time and is inexpensive.
Cons: Paper system, speed, features (no duplex or networking), value for price.

Summary: This Dell is one of several laser printers that I own. While it performs smoothly and reliably, it fails to provide several key features that the competition has at a comparable or lower price. The printer is very basic. It is well-suited for text ... read more

    Sep 13, 2005 by
    Rated a Helpful Review
Pros: Decent print quality, decent price, looks fairly nice
Cons: Obscene amount of paper jams, loud, no USB cable included, expensive to return

Summary: I was looking for a good quality laser printer, and I was willing to pay a good bit of money for one. Dell has a fairly good reputation for their computers, and I was looking for a company that sold quality products and had good support. I purchased ... read more

    Pros: Clear copies
    Cons: Noisy, slow, frequently jams,

Summary: I bought the Dell 1700 because it was a Dell. Everyone one of my computers, at home or work, that I have ever owned were and are made by Dell. I will buy Dell computers in the future. I will never again buy a printer with the name "Dell" on it. ... read more

  • Great Buy! Little slow out of the gate.

    Mar 8, 2005 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
    Pros: Cheap, fast, and quiet.
Cons: Kind of bulky, very slow to first page, Dell carts ONLY.

Summary: I recently purchased this printer because I had a coupon from Dell, and I have recently sworn off inkjets. I paid about $70.00 US for it, and if it were not for that fact I might have picked up a different brand. Anyway I had been searching for a ... read more

Pros: I looks kinda cool for a printer, I guess
Cons: Doesn't work, just jams. Jam button does work, in spades.

Summary: There was one laying around my office so I thought I would plug it in and use it in my office instead of the whole office printer. Unfortunately, it doesn't work, just jams. I'm lucky to get it to print one sheet before it jams again. On the plus side ... read more

    Pros: Acceptable print quality.
Cons: Reliability. Only good for home use.

Summary: I bought three of them for the office. They were easy to setup. Had to replace the drum with every other cartridge which increases the cost per page. Two of them developed a paper feed problem within a year. Now the feed arm does not drop down to push ... read more

  • Unreliable

    Pros: Cheap
    Cons: Low quality printer

Summary: It would be a good printer if you could depend on it, even if you could get support without being on the phone for more than an hour. Stay away from this printer if you need more than 10 pages a day. Printer jams very often and most them, you won't be ... read more

  • Awful printer

    Oct 14, 2006 by
    Rated Show
    Pros: Cheap
Cons: too noisy, uses too much toner, takes much too long until printing starts

Summary: I have used HP printers for years and never experienced as much trouble as with this one. First, it is very noisy: when it prints, one can have a conversations in a 20 yards radius. Moreover, it makes periodic noises at arbitrary times. Makes me jump ... read more

    Pros: NONE
    Cons: Has never worked!!!!

Summary: Sister in law gave me her 2month old Dell 1700 that she purchased new because it never worked for her. I have had it for a few weeks and can't get passed the "error" light which is supposed to mean that there is a cover open somewhere. Where?? I've tried ... read more

Pros: Cheap, pretty good quality output for its price. Nice looking unit.
Cons: Firmware upgrade may be required. Noisy when printing.

Summary: The Dell 1700 is a dependable laser if you're tired of paying through the nose for inkjet consumables. It takes a little too long to get going, but when it does it spits out at a rapid pace. Noisy when operating, it does fall asleep but will "wake up" ... read more

    Pros: It is fast.
Cons: Jams easily. Noisy. Backlog in ink cartridges. Doesn't do what we bought it for.

Summary: It doesn't do what we were told it would do. It constantly jams. Legal sheets have to be fed in by single sheet. It's noisy. And there was a 10 day backlog on buying a replacement ink cartridge...which can only be bought from Dell...so it's a ... read more

  • Cheap to Buy, Cheap to Own

Pros: Color. Price. 250 sheet input. Cheap toner.
Cons: Noise while printing. Paper catches on output tray.

Summary: I've had one for about a month. It's mediocre at best. I had to put a piece of tape on the top front where the front meets the top because the first sheet always catches in the crack unless you flip up the extension for legal size paper. Also, if the ... read more

Pros: The printer works great WHEN it works. Good quality printing.
Cons: About 30 percent of the time an "error" occurs with infuriatingly frustrating results.
