A good LCD display with poor design
by bwxian ,Jul 18 '04
Pros: Good LCD screen, good keyboard, light! Cons: INTOLERABLE heat on the left palm area!
I guess other users mentioned most of the features. But I still want to talk about heat problem on the left palm area which makes me quite annoyed.
I bought this laptop half year ago and used for almost 6 months. I use it about 10 days every day, so I think I know this laptop pretty well.
I am complaining to myself everyday about the heat problem on my left palm. I think the heat reason comes from the harddrive which is right under the left palm area.
To be honest, I think if the designed ever used the laptop for more than 3 hours, this problem should be noticed, so easily.
What a poorly and disappointing design!!!!

Very Hot
by zmonsanto ,Jun 15 '05
Pros: Not heavy to carry and very good in appearance. Cons: Very very hot.
I am really excited to own this notebook not until I used it. The left palm rest is very very hot. My left arm is aching already since I am using it the whole day. They said that it is within standard but I don't agree. Because if it is then why I feel numbness on my left arm for using it more than one hour.

Hot, and not always in a good way
by david_c_reed ,Feb 13 '04
Pros: Lighter than my last one, good configuration, wireless is solid. Cons: Hot, speaker issues, silly port replicator, floppy drive is not included by default
I agree with another user about the palm of their left hand: it gets hot.
All in all, I like the laptop. However, I can't get the internal speakers working. They worked for a while, and then they stopped working, and despite questions to Dell on their community forums, they've never answered. The speakers work from the diagnostic utility, just not from Windows.
Also, although I don't need it very often, it doesn't come with a floppy drive by default, so I had to go buy a USB one so that I could create emergency repair disks.
Getting the unit in and out of the port replicator is a pain, too.

Good laptop but with design flaws
by rssb ,Nov 29 '03
Pros: nice screen, good graphics card Cons: Big design flaw, heat in left palm rest area
It is a good laptop for the price,
But the left palm rest heat, is not worth saving the money.
You will be stuck with a expensive paper weight in the long run, unless one tapes some insulation material or gloves while operating it.
