Pros: Very sharp and vivid images and text. No dead pixels Cons: A little ghosting when scrolling text or playing action games.
I have been reading LCD monitor reviews for months and even when a monitor was very highly rated, I would find that I was disappointed when I actually got to see one first-hand. Either it was too dull, or too fuzzy (and yes they were set at the native ...
Pros: Large, good price, great performance, bright, no perceived problems. Cons: Larger footprint, may want to wait for newer technology.
The Dell 1800FP has gotten rave reviews at several computer enthusiast sites, and that's what prompted me to buy one. And now I'm going to prompt the rest of the world to seriously consider this beauty of a monitor. On paper, the 1800FP ...
Pros: Bright, sharp screen. No dead pixels, no ghosting. Great bang for the buck. Cons: None.
This is a nearly perfect LCD. It is basic, with only DVI and analog inputs, but really what else do you need? There are no dead pixels on my monitor. Colors are bright, text is sharp, there is no ghosting in games. The buttons on front are small but responsive. I run mine off a Radeon 9800 Pro via DVI and it simply looks great. The native resolution of 1280 by 1024 is perfect. With a little patience, you can get one for under $500 from Dell.
Good value for a large display w/ DVI by jblakus ,Mar 02 '04
Pros: A quality display with DVI. Clear, crisp images and text. An overall good value Cons: No height adjustment. Image quality decreases as resolution is decreased. (same for most LCDs)
I have owned this monitor for several months. It has performed better than expected. Paid $432 from Dell Online. It puts my old 17" NEC flat CRT to shame for image and text quality. The display is very easy on the eyes. Color saturation is uniform with no apparent hot or cold spots. The panel is also quite bright. I had to decrease it for my taste. The viewing angle is very wide with little or no distortions at the edges. No dead pixels have been found. No ghosting has been observed during motion videos in DVI mode. Analog mode displayed some minor ghosting during fast motion video and games, but was very slight. I now use DVI exclusively and have never had any problems. Text seems clearer with DVI, but that is very subjective on my part. The unit has a good sturdy base and construction. Much better than other units I have seen. Especially some of the newer 17" & 19" from Dell and others. The display can only be tilted up or down. No height adjustment, but this is not a problem for me. I highly recommend this display.
What a great decision I made! by djkitt ,Mar 02 '04
Pros: Color is wonderful! Size is perfect and cost was good. Refurb. Well worth it. Cons: None really. It is what it is.
I love this monitor. I've been working with CRTs forever and I decided with my new machine I would purchase a digital flat panel. I bought this Dell (UltraSharp) from their refurb monitors and it great! The colors are vibrant, the blacks are very good, and text isn't to bad if you are in 1280x1024.
I knew that FP displays still don't match the clarity of a CRT, but this monitor is just so bright and vibrant that I don't see me going back to CRTs ever again. my girlfriend has an Apple 17" flat panel on her G4 and it is a think of beauty. But I have to say that my new Dell is not far off from hers. I would definitely suggest this monitor to anyone looking to get into the flat panels.
The only improvement it could have, and they've already done it with their new line (1801FP) is put USB ports and a height adjustment. Not a big deal for me though. Fits me perfectly at 6'2". Very satisfied!
Pros: Bright, clean crisp images with great color. Cons: Black levels good, but not as good as CRT.
Usage includes text and graphics.
Bright, clean, crisp, images using DVI input and recommended 1280x1024 resolution. Lower resolutions are available but are definitely not as sharp. Not sure if this is due to display or graphics card.
No distortion. Colors are vibrant. Flesh tones look natural. Hard to believe anything else could be sharper. No ghosting noticed.
Black levels are good, but not as good as a standard CRT type monitor. This is apparently a characteristic of flat panel monitors. A slight distraction when viewing dark pictures or video.
18" size seems much larger than 17" CRT was used to.
Perhaps at a bargain price but otherwise look elsewhere by bevross ,Jan 17 '04
Pros: Pretty good pictures, large size allows ease working with multiple windows Cons: Not as sharp an image as can be had
I wrote a review of a Samsung 172T, which is dual input (analog, digital) as this one is. I said there that I preferred the Samsung for clarity of images. The slightly larger size of the Dell, however, allows for greater ease in working with multiple windows. I'd recommend this monitor only if it could be bought in the $350 range since, for more money, I think one could do better.
