Perfect little camera for the point and shoot user
by slinky77 ,Aug 05 '06
Pros: Easy to use; durable; great daytime or indoor lit photos; easy to download photos
Cons: Goes through batteries quickly (I highly recommend a few rechargeable); not great on action shots
I received this camera as a gift and it has been ideal for my needs. I've gotten great photos out of it in all day time light and it has been easy to download photos. If you're looking for a family camera that is easy to use and durable this is definitely the way to go.

While I hate to admit it, my 9 year old has dropped it twice and.....ahem......I managed to get it splashed by a whale. Still works like a champ.

Cannon A300 - Great Starter Digital Camera
by everyday-guy ,Feb 25 '04
Pros: Great picture quality when not using zoom. Bright flash. Movie option with sound.
Cons: Very grainy pictures when zoom is used.
Great camera overall. Small, lightwieght, fits in your pocket. A must is to get rechargeable Ni-mh batteries. I can get two or three time as many pics, using the flash, than other batteries. The menus are easy to use. There are many different options you can you, but i just stick with the auto features and that works fine.

Who would've thought
by MikeEckhardt ,Jun 13 '04
Pros: Exceptionally crisp and clear picture, great color
Cons: Tiny screen, even tinier writing, invest in rechargeable batteries.
I am impressed, almost beyond words, at what a bargain this little camera is. I bought it as part of a printer/camera package at compusa. The price was just under $200.00. I had tried this combo on my old ibm aptiva with windows 98, and couldn't get it to install. Brought it back for a full refund, the store was great. Within days, the ibm croaked, and I bought a system with XP. What a difference, installation was fairly long, but it was worth it. Notwithstanding any other problems this camera may have, the clarity of the pictures is awesome. When I printed my first, with the combo I455 canon printer, I was stunned to see fotomat quality from a printer. Wow!!! Once I get used to where things are, it is quite small, and the screen icons are quite small, I'm sure it will bring me lots of great pictures. Good value combo for the price. Get rechargeable batteries, it consumes them with great gusto.

Complex Digital Camera - Good Price
by harleejake ,Sep 23 '03
Pros: Great Price with many extras.
Cons: Very confusing
I would like to write a positive review on this camera but I found it very difficult to figure out and I returned it. I found the instruction sheet to be very confusing and since I purchased it online, I could not get personal help at a local store. There were so many features that I'm sure would be excellent for someone who likes a lot of bells and whistles. I need a digital specifically for use on eBay and the Canon was much more than I required.

GREAT, except for one thing
by ariadne9 ,Jul 21 '04
Pros: easy to use camera and software durable construction quality prints short video with sound
Cons: slow to snap pictures and to start up
I got this camera for Christmas and overall it's great. It's easy to use and it produces prints of excellent quality. It also has a short movie recording feature with sound which is also cool. The only problem I have with it is that after you turn on the camera it takes about 20 - 30 seconds before you can take the first picture. Also, you have to hold down the shutter for quite a long time before it takes the picture (people I take pictures of get mad that it takes so long).

It also has a lot of features that allow you do a fair amount of advanced photography, even though it is a point and shoot.

Nice Camera, But A Few Complaints
by laura_cook1978 ,Nov 11 '05
Pros: picture quality 3.2 megapixels easy capture, functions, and upload
Cons: memory, unless you purchase a bigger card picture software
This camera is easy to handle and operate, and was fairly priced for what you get. The picture quality is excellent, and all of the functions are fairly simple to use. However, if you take a lot of pictures, you will need to purchase a larger memory card. Not the ideal thing to take on a vacation or long trip, because with the memory card that is supplied with purchase it only holds 20 pictures at most before it is full and you have to upload the images elsewhere. The battery life with rechargables is satisfactory. The shutter lags a little, so still poses are best-anything split second (like my infant's smile)will usually get missed. The software supplied with purchase leaves alot to be desired. I found it basically useless. This camera is a good purchase for playing around, if you're on a budget, and if you are new to the world of digital. Anyone experienced will be dissappointed without the upgrades.

Canon PowerShot A300 Digital Camera
by mojake23 ,Nov 23 '03
Pros: Great price, size, resolution and easy to use.
Cons: The camera is useless with regular alkaline batteries and poor zoom quality.
This is the camera you want if you like to just take pictures with little to think about and still get those shots that make you feel like a pro. With a 256mb you can document an entire trip. Only use good quality rechargeable batteries. Regular alkaline batteries run out in less than five minutes. Rechargeable ones work for over 2 hours strong. The view finder is smaller than some other cameras, but for the price, the amazing 3.2 mega pixels and the easy use, it’s a minor drawback. You are still able to see if you got that shot or not and it’s great to be able to show off my pictures. This is the perfect camera for someone’s introduction into digital photography. The only disappointment was with the zoom. The pictures tend to come out blurry with the zoom. I just don’t use it, instead I just move myself into a better shot. All in all, I have had this camera for 3 months now and I have you to stop loving it.

The ultra useful Powershot A300
by csifreak ,Jan 04 '05
Pros: Overall a good starter camera
Cons: Size, screen size
I got this camera 1 year ago and I love it! It has so many features and I absoulty love the panoramic "piece together" function so you can make a 360 degree view. The LCD screen is a bit small but it still works. Toghther the camera is quite big but it does the job. The built in speaker is rather pointless but .......... what ever. Not too crazy on the orange light sensor. It makes it take a bit longer for the picture but it does a good job for lighting correction. i use Ni-Mh batteries so it takes me about 5 hours minimum to drain the batteries. But otherwise it is not a bad camera.

Not the Camera for Me
by ritzy007 ,Nov 14 '03
Pros: It's exciting if it's your first digital camera. It's sleek and cool looking.
Cons: No optical zoom and VERY poor battery life (uses AA batteries)
I recently made the transition from regular to digital and found that with this camera, it didn't offer basic features that my regular camera had. It doesnt have optical zoom (which is a must if you want to capture someone onstage at a performance, etc--something I learned the hard way this weekend). I tried looking it up in the manual but didnt find it, all the while thinking it was there and that I just hadn't figured it out yet. I don't believe in "beginner" cameras because when I buy something, I intend to keep it for a VERY long time. I dont want to upgrade, but I suppose that's just me. It was a gift though, so while I feel really bad about it, I'd rather put the extra money in to get a decent camera.

Could use some improvements
by peagreenpolar ,Jan 02 '07
Pros: Good Picture quality, and good picture quality on the LCD screen.
Cons: Huge, bad shutter lag, and the battery life.
It has good picture quality and good picture on the LCD screen, but there are a few things bad. The first thing you would notice is that the camera sucks the power out of the batteries quickly. Ever tried to take a picture of kids running? You know how fast they can go, so you hit the button when the picture takes the kids were never in the picture because of the long period of time that passes by between hitting the button and the picture taking. Another thing that is bad about this camera is how big it is. Don't you want something that is easy to slip in your pocket to carry around? With the Canon PowerShot A300 you can't do that because it is too big. I also have a Polaroid A300 and I love using it more. It doesn't have a bad shutter lag like the Canon PowerShot A300 and the Polaroid is so much smaller then the Canon.

Don't Like It
by jerajelihu ,Dec 03 '05
Pros: None
Cons: very unreliable: battery consumption, memory card too small, major shutter lag, sometimes won't work
Sorry, maybe I got the lemon in the bunch of good reviews, but this camera has not been very reliable for me.

To start, it eats batteries like my kids eat snacks.

Terrible shutter lag, can't get any candid pictures.

Sometimes I have to push the button four or five times just to get it to work, which leaves the "subject" very grouchy by the time I get around to taking the picture.

Memory card too small--definitely have to buy a bigger memory card as soon as you get this camera, or you will be disappointed when you get somewhere and five minutes later, the memory is full.

The most recent problem I am having is that it just won't work anymore--it keeps indicating, "change battery pack", but when I do, same thing comes up.

Would not recommend this camera to anyone.
