Another Success: Dyson DC 14, Low Reach.

by yakkowarner Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Nov 03 '04
Pros: Suction power, ergonomics, durability, it works.
Cons: Price, the wand can be annoying to set up
What is a Dyson vacuum. Simply put the Dyson vacuum is the first canister vacuum that does not lose suction. And it works. The DC 14 is the latest in the Dyson line of upright vacuums. It is the replacement for the DC 07 and has a number of ...

I Never Though I’d Love a Vacuum Cleaner Till I Met the Dyson DC14

by AliventiAsylum Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Dec 20 '05
Pros: cleans great, never loses suction, easy to empty canister, HEPA filter
Cons: lack of documentation
When I was cleaning my house the weekend before we were to move in, I started out cleaning with a Shop-Vac. After a while, I grew tired of it as it wasn’t doing the job I needed it to do. I decided I deserved a treat and went out to the nearest Sears ...

Pros: Picks up everything.  Easy to empty the dirt canister.
Cons: Expensive
Just about everyone needs to vacuum at some point even if they don’t have much carpet in their home.  I have used many vacuums over the years, some of which were better than others.  I was very happy when I first got a bagless vacuum ...

by customeright , Mar 02 '07
Pros: Excellent performance, easy to use, intelligent ergonomic design, easy to maintain.

Not just another Vacuum... I know it's a leap to call something revolutionary. Especially when the Dyson vacuum line has not received top honors from independent testers (two models scored in the upper-middle of a certain ...

I can't believe I'm writing a review about a VACUUM CLEANER! (There's a good reason!)

by heresmy2cents , Jan 05 '05
Pros: Some brilliant innovations. Powerful suction. Easy-empty bin. No dust smell whatsoever. Easily removable parts.
Cons: Annoying stretch hose. No headlight... are you kidding? Lousy cord design. Frustrating on small jobs.
First of all, let me just get something off my chest about this Dyson fellow. It bothers me more than a little to see a grown man on TV with a pained look on his face telling me how frustrated he was by his previous vacuum cleaners. I'm 41 years old and ...

Best Vacuum Available

by cej1 , Mar 19 '06
Pros: cleans like crazy, doesn't blow dust, long cord, easy to clean
Cons: none come to mind
I first heard about this from someone at work a few years ago, and about how they used their old vacuum on the carpet and then when over it with the Dyson and filled up the bin. Twice. We got this in December of 2005 as a gift from my mother. It is ...

A Christmas Story

by jiggity , Dec 10 '04
Pros: Vacuums like no other vacuum, light, easily maneuverable
Cons: Price, doesn't get into places my other vacuum did without attachments
Do you remember how Ralphie felt when he got his BB gun for Christmas; well I felt the same way when my Dyson arrived. But I had a much better experience with my Dyson, than Ralphie did with his BB gun. I have done so much research on this product ...

Dyson DC14 - Worth every penny!

by snowbird25ca , Sep 12 '06
Pros: It works! Easy to empty dirt, no filters to change.
Cons: Price for some.
We had a Filter Queen canister vacuum prior to buying the Dyson. I'd seen the Dyson commercials on TV and been impressed with the idea of not having to change filters & that the vacuum wouldn't lose suction. I'd been feeling for awhile that our old ...

Dyson DC14 Full Access - Love the vacuum, hate the Mini Turbine Head

by dakotadoc Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Nov 15 '04
Pros: The DC14 Full Access is an amazingly powerful and easy to use vacuum cleaner.
Cons: The Dyson Mini Turbine Head accessory is completely worthless and shouldn't be on the market
First of all, I will suggest that you go to the Dyson website and read everything you can about how they work, what the various models do, and what you should expect. This is the Dyson US website: http://www.dyson.com/ This is the only vacuum ...

Great Vacuum!!!

by steven_boone , Sep 30 '06
Pros: Light weight, strong suction, long cord, great attachment tool selection, 17 foot long extension hose
Cons: Won't go far under furniture without the specific attachment.
I did quite a bit a research on vacuums before purchasing the DC 14. I was not really in the market for a $500 (with tax) vacuum, after all, all of my previous vacuums were in the $150 to $250 range. I have had the DC14 for about a month now, and it is ...

by koreyleigh , Feb 10 '06
Pros: great pickup, easy to use, no bags, and long cord
Cons: no headlight and the crevice tool is a little weak

by bergzy Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Jul 16 '06
Pros: Great suction, ergonomic reach of attachments, easy to push.
Cons: Expensive for a vacuum but more than worth it!

by tcriss , Jul 03 '08
Pros: Suction, suction, suction. Five year warranty.
Cons: The price and the weight.

Well worth the price of admission

by live4java , May 09 '08
Pros: Lives up to the hype! Worth the price. Sucks like a shop-vac!
Cons: Expensive. Small canister. Dumping the canister can be messy.
With three dogs and two cats, several of which are "shedding" breeds, and a mix of carpet and hardwood floors, a good vacuum is an absolute "must have" item. After years of faithful service, the old Electrolux was showing its (considerable) age, ...

Cons: Build up near brush and retail price

Dyson DC14 Upright (Complete) Pet Hair Eater.

by annemarieko , Feb 10 '05
Pros: Excellent suction, easy to use. Long hose for stairs. No bags, empties completely and easily.
Cons: Attachments should be better designed and of higher quality.

Cons: Suction for tools seems like it is a lot less then the floor cleaning suction

Cons: Price, accordian-style hose, and the horrible noise described above.
Bought DC-14 b/c DC-07 was older model and wanted the latest and greatest (the cyclonic ones were inverted making the unit a little smaller and the turbo tool on the DC-14 had twice the cleaning path as the DC-07 attachment). I like having "cool" stuff ...

Lean Mean Purple Dirt Eating Machine

by jaschuma , Dec 28 '04
Pros: Its constant suction
Cons: The mini turbine brush stops spinning on soft surfaces if light pressure is applied.
With our old vacuum on its last legs it was time to start looking for a replacement. Having a couple of cats and my wife and I both having dust allergies we wanted something with a HEPA filter and good suction. After reading many different reviews, ...

Dyson DC14 scratches hardwood floors

by dmarkovi67 , Aug 15 '09
Pros: nothing I can see relative to competing products
Cons: flawed design, limited suction of sand-like particles, indifferent customer service
I have three major issues with Dyson DC14 All Floors Vacuum cleaner. First, it does not seem to do a good job picking up sand and sand-like particles from bare floors. (I suspect it does even worse on carpets.)--I was surprised to see that my Dyson had ...

My Dyson

Pros: never loses suction, easy to empty, cleans well, no belts or filters to buy
Cons: price, have to hold machine down with foot and pull back to recline machine
I am a vacuum/steam cleaner freak. One night these Tri Star guys came to my house and showed me how much dirt was in my home and how I wasn't getting it out with my Hoover Windtunnel. I was totally feaked out by what they pulled out of my carpet, ...

Slightly better than Hoover V2, Quieter.

by manythoughts , Aug 24 '09
Pros: Cannister easy to empty. Relatively quiet. Good brush action with slip for tall knap, fringe.
Cons: Can't get under furniture edges - head too big.Handle hose not easy to use.
I had a Hoover V2 for 5 years which was a terrific sweeper but the Dyson does a better job overall with less noise. The head is big and prevents getting under cabinets and furniture edges to catch dirt/crumbs without using the hose assembly. ...

Cons: Attachment handle is cumbersome. Does not push easily over plush carpets.

Good vacuum...not worth the price

Pros: The wand is great for ceilings and light fixtures. Moves easily
Cons: Agitator doesn't work as hard as I would like. Very expensive.

Hype?
by stephanie-74 ,Jun 21 '07
Pros: status symbol, clear canister to see when it is full, adjustable vacuum height
Cons: too much vacuum power, heavy and requires effort to use, no edge vacuuming
I must have been drawn in by all the gushing I had read and heard to fork out the $469 for the Dyson DC14, which included a $50 Target gift card. When the woman who helps me clean my home first saw it, she said rather flatly, "Oh, you got a Dyson." Her tone prompted me to ask her experience with the brand and thereby her opinion. She said the ones she had used were okay but not her favorite to use. She was particularly miffed at the lack of edge cleaning. So, with doubt instilled in my mind, I tried it out on a room-sized area rug and was amazed at all the stuff filling the canister; however, to my shock that STUFF was carpet fiber. I tried it on the wall-to-wall carpet and had no similar problem. Due to my twenty years of using a self-propelled vacuum, I was also disappointed with having to push and pull it with albeit moderate effort. After little more consideration,I cleaned the machine, repacked it, and returned it a few days later, feeling as if I had been suckered. Fortunately, the store accepted it with no problems.

Expensive piece of crap
by intertelect ,Oct 04 '04
Pros: Good suction
Cons: Cost, breaks, no support
I had mine a whole 24 hours before it broke.
The brush control that they hype over and over stopped working...so all I had was suction. Suction won't clean a carpet.
Tried calling their help line that they also hype in the literature that you get when you purchase the unit. They keep repeating "call the help line if you encounter a problem". Well...you only better encounter a problem during their normal business hours. This is like buying a Mercedes, breaking down, calling their roadside assistance and getting a recording to call back. Your breakdown is just not convenient for them at that particular time.
So, I tried their online help. That was not working. Maybe it got so overloaded that the site crashed.
One thing I did notice while trying to get it to work...if you ever want to replace a belt (which is very straightforward on virtually all vacuums) you will have to take it in the shop.
I'm returning mine. $550 for one day's use seems a bit steep to me.

by angstusn ,Mar 27 '07
Pros: very powerfull. easy to use.
Cons: no light. hose kind of tricky at longer distances.
WOW. This thing works great. I was worried about the noise mentioned on here by others. The noise only happends when you vacuum over a loose rug and the noise is protecting the vacuum. The difference between the different dc14's is just where you buy it. I bought the FULL KIT. You can only buy them at costco. This thing picked up soo much dirt and dust and hair I could not believe it. Easy to push around. Very easy to empty. The hose is easy to use at close distances.

I like it, I'll keep it
by rlorenzini ,Oct 31 '06
Pros: Maximum suction even when canister is nearly full. Good edge cleaning. Adequate tools.
Cons: The wand and hose are a little cumbersome. No light.
I have a small house, about 1500 square feet, but four Pomeranians who spend a great deal of time indoors. If you know the breed, you know they are hair factories. My previous vacuum, a Hoover Whirlwind, was a dismal failure at keeping up with the dogs. Once the canister got even partly filled, the suction would go way down and I would have to go over sections several times to get them clean. Besides having to empty the canister constantly, the filter needed constant cleaning.

The Dyson DC14 is a dream by comparison. It is the best vacuum I have ever owned, and that includes one of the old Kirbys. Just to make a comparison, I vacuumed a section of my house with the Hoover when I came home with the Dyson (the filter and canister on the Hoover were clean). Then, I went over the same area with the Dyson. Dog hair galore! And if it picked up all that dog hair, I can imagine there was a lot more.

Dyson DC14 all floors
by alemery ,Dec 21 '06
Pros: Amazing suction power and cleaning; loooooong cord is awesome!
Cons: a little heavy; worth the price, which is a drawback
This vacuum is amazing. I was balking at the price for a long time. Then after reading the reviews and choking one too many times on the dust from my other bagless when I had to empty it and smack the filer against the garbage can, I broke down and ordered the Dyson.
WORTH EVERY PENNY and then some.
Our housecleaner had just come and cleaned. I took the Dyson DC14 and went over the areas she had already vacuumed, and lo and behold, filled the canister with dog hair in about 3 minutes! Couldn't believe it! Absolutely full! Gack! Gross and cool at the same time. I will be having her use this vacuum from now on! Emptying is unbelievably easy and clean too. Go DYSON!!!

Amazing!
by hanner80 ,Oct 10 '04
Pros: Great suction power, no suction loss, no bag needed, HEPA filter.
Cons: A bit expensive, but with the coupon and sale, not too bad.
It was time to get a new vacuum and we kept seeing the Dyson commercials, so we figured we would check it out. A friend as one and LOVES hers, so we went to our local Best Buys store. It was on sale this week, plus we had a 10% off promo coupon.

We got it home, put it all together and started vacuuming. 3 hours later we had vacuumed EVERYTHING in the house we could have vacuumed! I think we emptied the canister 8 times! And, that's after vacuuming with the Hoover the day before!!

Wonderful - would recommend to anyone!

Best 500 bucks ever spent
by mattaleca ,Oct 18 '04
Pros: Everything from the great attachments to the awesome silver color
Cons: No Zorb freshener and Animal attachment included.
Our old Kenmore vacuum wasn't getting our apartment carpet clean enough. With 2 cats and a basset hound we were vacuuming every other day. And I was only going through a bag every month. Got the Dyson home, setup in less that 5 minutes flat. I vacuumed all weekend long; carpet, couches, blinds, ceiling fans, curtains, you name it. I must have emptied the can 10 times. Unbelievable. My wife and I can smell the difference in the air, we're not coughing and sneezing anymore.
Can't wait to vacuum the cars now.
Love all the attachments. The only down fall is the complete didn't include the animal attachment and Zorb carpet cleaner. But I am going to try to order that this week.
I wish I would have bought this sooner. I would recommend this to anyone with a pet. Its the best machine you can get.

Who loves to vacuum? I do!!
by tweety170 ,Jul 13 '07
Pros: Picks up EVERYTHING, easy to use, easy to empty/clean
Cons: Expensive, kind of heavy
As previous posters have said, I've never loved a vacuum or loved to vacuum. The Dyson DC14 has changed that. I CANNOT believe how much stuff it picks up. In fact, it makes me feel kind of gross that there's that much dirt in my carpet!! This is totally worth it (all of the Dyson products are amazing, however I wouldn't recommend the DC07 for it's loss in suction). Amazing machine!

Dyson-Plenty of Hype
by gvran1971 ,Feb 21 '07
Pros: Attachments are easy to use. Purple color.
Cons: Poor pet hair pick up.
I, among many millions of consumers have purchased the Dyson because of its advertised no loss of suction promise. Having a dog and 2 small children, I decided to purchase a vacuum that would pick up as much dog hair as possible. The Dyson does have alot of suction, but it simply does not pick up enough dog hair to be called the "animal". A recent article in a leading consumer magazine confirmed what I thought about the Dyson's pet hair pick up ability-it is average to poor. I think that people are overly impressed by the Dyson, as I was for the first few days of ownership, for one main reason: the unit is bagless and by seeing all the dirt the vacuum is picking up, there is a false impression that you are picking up more than a vacum that uses a bag. Dumping out the container is a mess and needs to be done outside over the trash can, dont even think of emptying the container in the kitchen trash can. Why worry about money saved on bags when you spend 500 dollars for a vacuum.

Very happy so far
by robc935 ,Aug 23 '08
Pros: Quiet and powerful, looks cool, very well thought out dust container (no mess).
Cons: Wand is kind of goofy, but works well.
My Hoover bag less died yesterday, Sears had a vac sale. Looked at many models, mostly under $200. I saw the 5 year warranty, plus I'm asthmatic so I looked at the DC 14 more closely and asked many questions (salesman new his stuff). On sale for $339, plus I got an additional 10% off for being a Lands End employee. So, $309 plus tax and I love how it performs. My Hoover was heavier, noisier, and had to be emptied every 5 minutes to keep good suction.

Holy Dog Hair Batman
by chicago1975 ,Feb 21 '07
Pros: Great suction, the wand is awesome, bagless.
Cons: Price, somewhat awkward to use around stairs.
I am just amazed at what this vacuum has pulled out of my carpet each and every time that I have used it. I have two dogs a child and one husband, need I say more? I replaced my 8 1/2 year old Hoover Windtunnel with the Dyson dc14 from Costco. I always thought my Windtunnel was doing a great job until about 2 weeks ago when it stopped sucking. I convinced my hubby to purchase the Dyson, which he was not happy about the large price tag. After we got home he was the first to use it and we both almost got sick when we saw what the Dyson had pulled from our freshly vacuumed floor. For two weeks now I am in ah at what is and has been trapped in our carpet. Holy Dog Hair Batman! This is proving to be a great investment.

Dyson dc14 low reach upright red/silver
by lilly1980 ,Jan 04 '05
Pros: Gets up all my nasty dog hair, easy to use, amazing suction!
Cons: Price...but worth every penny.
This vacuum is my life saver! I have a huge german shepherd that sheds EVERYWHERE and have tried everything. This vacuum gets all the hair up...I can roll around on the floor with a black shirt on a nor get anything on me. You think that sounds weird? Well, the main reason I was looking for something like this is because when I have kids that are crawling around all over the floor, I don't want hair all on them and in their mouth. If you want the same...get the Dyson. I was told there is no differance between this one and the Dyson Animal...the Animal just costs more and comes with an extra attatchment that I hear is worthless anyway. I actually like to vacuum now and it made my carpets look new again...scary that there was that much dirt in my carpets, huh? If you have any questions, feel free to email me with them at...Kiss4you80@yahoo.com.

Fantastic vacuum
by jrandamy ,Oct 02 '04
Pros: Ease of use, suction power, attachments
Cons: None, although I wish it were cheaper. It is a good value, though
I was in the market for a new vacuum because our old hand-me-down Hoover was not getting the job done. I'm also ready to install a new wood floor, and needed something that would easily transition to a bare floor (by turning off the beater bar).

I read some review of the DC07 model on Epinions, and was ready to buy that one today. When I got to the store, though, they had this new model for $30 more. I was told by the salesman that the hose is improved. I decided to take the plunge. What's $30 when you're spending $500 for a vacuum.

Anyway, we cleaned the whole house today with the Dyson. Boy was that an eye opener. I must have emptied the cannister six times. That's how bad the old Hoover was (or how good the Dyson is -- take your pick).

As advertised, I didn't notice it ever losing suction. That thing can pull! Also, I found that switching among attachments and overall operation was VERY simple.

In summary, I'm delighted with my purchase. Sure it was $530, but you definitely get what you pay for.

Vacuum to end of all Vacuum's
by uafly1 ,Jul 26 '05
Pros: The wand, suction power.
Cons: Can't really say that I found one yet.
I hate to admit that I spent over $300 on a vacuum, but I will admit that it was worth every penny. I have 4 story house and the removable wand is great for stairs. I got the basic version because I did not need the accessories that the other's provided. Also I used a 20% off coupon from LNT at Bed Bath and Beyond. Word of advice, be careful when removing the canister...

Love It
by lewpine ,Nov 08 '04
Pros: Easy to use, so simple to clean, versatile.
Cons: Hose is too awkward to use in short or small distances
I actually look forward to vacuuming with my Animal. It's great to see how much dirt you are ridding your house of while using it. We bought this vacuum to replace a very old Hoover since we moved into a house. The attachments are easy to use and give you great long distance reach. It was a bit awkward at first, but you get the hang of it quick. I love that all the pieces attach to it so you don't have to go searching for the tool of choice (with exception to the floor cleaning rotary tools you use less frequently). The only thing that I haven't figured out and think I will simply have to buy a hand vac for is the short distance stuff like vacuuming out drawers. The extender is so long and a bit clumsy to get into tight short distance places. The emptying of the container is a breeze and no mess! I really love it and hope it lasts as long as it should for the cost.

junk!! please read you pay for his advertising
by j66213b ,Jul 17 '07
Pros: looked awsome
Cons: side suction, wimpy motor, plastic, plastic brush roll, has 2 filters!!!
This vacuum has side suction, a wimpy brush roll that plastic and mine melted down, a wimpy motor that panasonic makes because after mine crashed i took it apart and yeah it says panosonic only all over it if he reinvented the vacuum why didn't he make his own motor. Running 12 amps through that motor will blow it in a few years believe me. I was also mad to see 2 filters and a life time filter yeah i agree it was .... well at least the life time of my vacuum!! wich was 2 years and for $530!!! come on. i was not impressed at all and would not give this to my mother for free. But i will say it looked pretty cool and people commented on it alot.

Not worth the price
by christy77 ,Dec 27 '04
Pros: good vacuum, long cord, extra reach tools, quiet and smooth running
Cons: turbo-tool worthless, barefloor option not great
I bought the Dyson DC14 mainly to pick up cat hair from 4 cats. The "mini-turbo" tool didn't work. The Dyson people were very nice and immediately sent me a new turbo tool - that didn't work. The vacuum itself worked pretty good - I would recommend one of the less expensive versions, since the extra tools aren't worth it and don't work anyway. Also, on bare floors, the vacuum just pushes things around and I had to use the hand tools.

Best Vacuum - DC14 Complete
by azcanet ,Jan 05 '05
Pros: *High suction power *Mattress cleaning tool *Dusting attachment *Easy empty canister *Lifetime Hepa Filter
Cons: The hose is a little awkward to handle, but worth it for exceptionally clean carpet.
I have never written a review before, but I am so excited about this vacuum that I'm telling everyone I know about it. We just bought the Dyson DC14 Complete a week ago. We've never spent this much for one vacuum and I wanted to prove that it was worth the money. The day we went out to buy it, I thoroughly vacuumed my master bedroom with my old bagless vacuum. Then once my husband assembled the Dyson (less than 5 min.) I vacuumed again to see if all of the dust had been picked up by my old vacuum. I was floored, there was more dust in the Dyson canister than there was in my old canister. I did not expect there to be that much dust since I had already vacuumed 4 hours earlier. What a difference, the carpet even looked and felt fluffier (like it had just been professionally cleaned).

Everything I hoped it would be
by nuttieduck ,Mar 15 '08
Pros: Suction power, simple to get unclogged, easy to clean, quieter than most
Cons: super expensive
I can't say enough about this vacuum. I have a brand new house with brand new carpets and it handled the fuzz no problem. It did plug up once on me, however removing the block was incredibly easy! With my other bagless there was no way to get it out and I was beyond frustrated. Not any more! Also, cleaning out the canister is a breeze too.It picks up everything, the attachments are great. I love the fact that the hose AND the cord are incredibly long.

I have had a lot of vacuums - all price ranges - bags and bagless. Hands down, this is the best vacuum I have ever owned. It's too bad I had to almost take out a 2nd mortgage to get it! Okay, not quite. But if I hadn't found it when I did at a 'clearance' price I probably still wouldn't have one. :(

I love this Vacuum Cleaner
by marcy47 ,Jun 07 '08
Pros: Clean great-Fantastic, never loses suction, canister empties with ease, HEPA filter
Cons: None
My family always had an Electrolux, and so that's what I bought when I moved into our home. My carpets never seemed to be clean. So after 24 years I purchased a Dyson DC 14 complete with all these great attachments. Once I started cleaning with it I was more than impressed. It switches from carpet to floors with ease. I have had pets over 25 years and I can't believe all the pet hair that this got out of my carpet. Dyson has really done it-truely the best vacuum cleaner.

All Dyson DC14 Units are the same... basically!
by kingmikey ,Jul 03 '06
Pros: Cleans like a champ!
Cons: Initial sticker shock, bagless canister seems small
I have a black lab that sheds all over the floor and my current vacuum wasn't great at getting dog hair up, so I looked at Dyson.

I wasn't sure if I needed the Dyson 14 animal or some other Dyson unit. What I learned is that you don't need to spend the extra $100 for an "animal" upgrade unless you've got pet hair attached to your sofa. The Dyson animal vacuum just comes with a couple of extra attachments, one removes hair from furniture. All the Dyson 14 units work pretty much the same on the floor. The variance between models basically mixes different specialty attachments with different models.

My Dyson 14 Drive picks up every single black dog hair on my tan carpet. It's a great unit that is worth the premium.

Dyson
by mac24601 ,Feb 20 '06
Pros: Powerful Easy to clean
Cons: Price
After much deliberation, I decided to buy a refurbished Dyson. The reason I purchased a refurb is because of the high price. When the vacuum was delivered I opened it immediately and started assembling it. Assembly wasn't too difficult. I started vacuuming right away. An amazing amount of dirt and carpet fiber came up. I had been vacuuming daily since our house was on the market and I still pulled up a lot of stuff. I was amazed at the power of the Dyson. Also, emptying the canister was super easy. Much better than a bag vacuum.

Great vacuum with amazing suction power with ingenious design
by nonefornow ,Apr 16 '07
Pros: Suction power, ingenious design, ease of use, reliable, convenience, and it's relatively light
Cons: Price could be an issue, but considering the long run, it's well worth it
The Dyson DC14 is simply amazing. I've been using it for over a year now, and it has been a reliable performer throughout my experience. You can actually feel the suction on the ground when vacuuming. The accessories work great and are convenient to use, and I do love the telescoping wand. Emptying the container is simple and easy with a push of a button. As instructed by the manual, every once in awhile, I'll check underneath the vacuum to cut tangled hair to bring the vacuum to 100 percent. My best experience with the vacuum was when vacuuming my wool rug--the vacuum took all of the dust out of it and restored the rug to a brand new condition. Simply amazing! Overall, the vacuum is well worth the price considering all of the great features and for its long term usage.

I am in love with my new Dyson
by shaunnadavies ,Oct 13 '07
Pros: Suction, ease of use, edge cleaning.
Cons: NONE! I love everything about it.
My Kenmore finally died on me after 8 yrs of using it. I bought an Electrolux Oxygen and it didn't work very well at all, so I decided to splurge and go for the Dyson. It is worth EVERY penny. I can not quit raving about this Vaccuum. It's amazing!

Dyson has gone the way of ...
by zither74 ,Feb 06 '08
Pros: light weight
Cons: very cheaply made, poor materials, very poor design, pretty much unusable.
... every other product that has had it's manufacturing shifted to China. The Chinese have ruined this product, just like they have ruined every other product that stingy western corporations have decided to build there, simply because they only have to pay the little seven-year-olds working 16 hours-a-day in the factories $30/month. The mini turbine head will not stay on the end of the hose, the tools are junk, air-flow stinks, the upper catch for winding the power cord broke the first time I wound the cord, among many other problems. Please consider a Hoover Wind Tunnel or a Eureka Sanitaire instead. You will pay about half the price for a better product. You won't get a 5 year warranty, but for my feelings about that, please refer to the movie "Tommy Boy." I can't believe I got swindled out of over $500 for this piece of garbage.

Wow - DC14 Animal
by candywandy ,Jan 05 '05
Pros: Design, ease of use
Cons: Suction at top of handle is odd when upright
I had an old vacuum for years and hated it. When we decided to get a new one, the only requirement was that I didn't have to keep attaching and reattaching the hose. Well, we went to Sears, and there was the really cool Dyson. $549 later, I was actually excited to vacuum. It sucked up so much cat hair, and I had just vacuumed with my old one the day before. The improvement to the hose is great - so easy to use!

Best Vacuum is BEST in customer service
by bev0426 ,Apr 28 '06
Pros: Excellent customer service. Free Shipping. No tax.
Cons: None that I am aware of.
Haven't even received my vacuum yet, but it is due today. Can't wait to vacuum! :) I had been researching Dyson vacuums for a while, and after extensive research, found that this site had the product I wanted at the best price. So, I placed my order this week. Well, I still can't help but look at the Dyson Vacuums when I am out shopping...just to "Make SURE" I got the best deal. Everywhere I went, they either didn't carry this model or it was significantly more. Until I got to one store. IT WAS LESS!!!! Truly bummed, I came home and emailed customer service to give them the chance to match the price, although there was no reason they should. Within minutes, I had a reply from Mark in Customer service saying the would be able to match the price. Very nice of them to do that and even nicer that they were extremely prompt and polite. Do I recommend Best Vacuum? BY ALL MEANS. Hope to be purchasing something else from them in the near future...just not another vacuum! :)

DC14 Total Clean purchased from Woot
by allmarsh ,Apr 22 '08
Pros: Great suction and cleaning power.
Cons: Terrible ratcheting noise when you get slightly under cabinet or couch. Wand kind of awkward.
I recently purchased a Dyson DC14 Total Clean refurbished vacuum from Woot.com. The vacuum looked brand new. It vacuumed great and seemed to pick up a lot of dirt. However, I had a problem with the vacuum whenever I tried to vacuum close to the edge of the couch or under a cabinet. The vacuum would start to make a loud ratcheting noise. It sounded like the brushbar was hitting the plastic on the vacuum. As soon as you stood the vacuum upright again it would stop. Mind you that I wasn't even pushing hard against the front of the couch or the cabinet. This noise was very annoying and it makes me wonder what damage it would cause the vacuum over time.

I called Dyson and they had me remove two thin, foam gaskets near the brushbar, but that did nothing to cure the problem. I am returning the vacuum to Woot at my freight cost because I'm not willing to live with this problem.

If you want a vacuum that has even typical clearance to go under a kitchen cabinet or near the front of the couch this probably isn't the vacuum for you.

Dyson DC 14 & the 1 yr old carpet
by dsadsa ,Nov 23 '05
Pros: The best---You have to see it to believe it.
Cons: attachments too small, poor quality and costly
It's clunky, it's yellow (you can find it in a closet)
the hose is a little stiff, and the attachments are really junky and too small and over priced....HOWEVER......
it is the best vacuum cleaner I have ever owned and I have owned an Electrolux, Kirby and a Kenmore that cost over $300.00
My carpet is one year old, and was vacuumed twice a week--
cleaned is a joke, It brushed the top, it never cleaned anything. Then I bought the DC 14, by The fine particle dirt is shocking! I have an 8ft runner in my kitchen, it looks brand new. It is expensive, I got a department store credit card, because I knew my first purchase would have a 25% discount. My cleaning lady is fascinated with it and brings me the canister to show me the dirt.Works great on the hardwood.

Allergies? NO PROBLEM even with dogs!!
by krsideas ,Mar 05 '06
Pros: suction, easy canister clean out, tools easy to use
Cons: A little heavy, pricey (but worth it)-consider Kirby pricetag with better results!
My husband and I both suffer from asthma and allergies, but could not live without our two chihuahuas. We have tried various types of vacuums, but would still have breathing problems after sitting in the room that our dogs are in most frequently for just a few minutes. We did our research and decided to buy a Dyson DC14(recommended by our allergy specialist). We first vacuumed our entire house (1800 yards of carpet) with our old Hoover canister vacuum. Then vacuumed again using the new Dyson. It was amazing what this thing picked up! Wads of dog hair, dirt and miscellaneous loose stuff. We had to clean the canister after vacuuming just one of our smaller rooms. I can now sit in our "dog" room without having breathing difficulty and am extremely pleased with how fresh our house smells again.

I must've got a lemon!
by bunkgirls ,May 10 '06
Pros: NONE
Cons: price, doesn't suck
I purchased my Dyson a little over a year ago, and immediately I knew it wasn't as great as everything I had heard. I've sucked it up for as long as I could now. And I have to say that my moms Hoover is 20 times better than my Dyson. It doesn't suck up hardly anything and the wand? Forget about it. Doesn't work. I've done everything I'm supposed to, to figure out the problem. I've practically taken apart the whole machine. I've washed the filter like I'm supposed to and checked all the ducts & airways. And still nothing. This was the worst $500 I've spent.

Pros: Design
Cons: Very little suction, cheaply made, expensive
Very pretty, well hyped, but it's absolute junk when the rubber meets the road. It has very little suction, the brush clogs easily and the attachments don't stay attached to the unit when being stored.
For $350, I expect a whole lot more from an appliance.

Dyson DC14 Animal
by ca11away ,Dec 28 '04
Pros: great with pet hair, good attachment, great length on the telescoping.
Cons: mini turbine, dirt finder would have been cool, more space for attachments
Great product, I have a yellow lab and we have been vacuuming every week with a hoover for the past two years. We noticed that after we vacuumed we could still see dog hair on the carpet. We would avoid wearing dark clothing because of the amount of hair that we would accumulate on our clothes. We bought the dyson dc14 last week and love it. I vacuum 2x a week and enjoy every moment. FYI: For those of u about to purchase this vacuum, keep your bed bath and beyond coupons. I was able to apply that 20% coupon towards the dyson, which saved me 110.00. 20% off a 5xx.00 vacuum is huge.

I LOVE my Dyson but....
by doodlebugs ,Jan 29 '05
Pros: Excellent cleaning, ease of use, powerful suction
Cons: Under performing mini turbine head, not worth the extra money for this attachment.
I LOVE my Dyson vacuum but forget the animal attachment. The turbine head stops spinning when hitting a soft fabric surface or when any amount of force is applied. It does not pick up animal hair as well as my Dirt Devil does. The hair gets stuck in the turbine bristles and needs to be removed manually not to mention to amount of hair that coats the inside of the head by static electricity.

Other than my big dis-satisfaction with the mini turbine head the vacuum performs miracles when it comes to the ability to extract dirt from carpets and floors. It is easy to use and to maneuver around.

So save yourself some money and buy the regular version!

Expensive but worth it
by rolfbk ,Apr 08 '06
Pros: Powerful, great canister ergonomics
Cons: cord wind up, roller brush needs manual cleaning
We owned a Fantom Fury before this one. It died after about 5 years of hard use, and we found out the company had gone out of business. This was more expensive, but is also a superior design. It provides better suction, has an amazing canister design that is easy and sanitary to use, and an effective and washable HEPA filter. There is also an upholstery brush attachment that worked surprisingly well. The only two things that could be improved upon are the cord storage and roller brush. The cord will only wind up and clip securely in one direction; when wound the wrong way the clip doesn't end up on a loose section of cord. The roller brush is probably a problem for any vacuum cleaner; after you've run over enough hair and lint a bunch of it gets stuck in the brushes under the vacuum and they have to be cut free and removed by hand.

Do Not Buy
by drewbaker ,May 14 '09
Pros: None
Cons: Destroys Carpet.
This vacuum cleaner destroyed my carpet because of its lack of height adjustment.  Dyson has done nothing to replace the damaged carpet furthering my frustration.  Do not buy unless you have money to replace your carpet.  You will know the first time you use it but then it is too late.  Dyson says to use suction only, who buys a vacuum for carpet and doesn't want to use a beater to losen dirt and debris come on.

DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE HYPE
by katescater ,Jul 17 '05
Pros: Pretty bright colors, Ok on wall to wall carpet only
Cons: Expensive, Mediocre performance, not enough bang for bucks!!
The Dyson DC 014 SL has many problems. I purchased on July 1 and returned the unit on July 9, 2005. Many of the attachments are thin and flimsy. The unit was heavy. The wand was too short to use the low reach floor tool in a standing position. The suction seemed ok on carpets. But the front power head did not clean hard surfaces well. The front power head head had only two selections hard surface and carpet. There are no pile depth settings on the unit.
The suction is not adjustable. So you can't use the attachments to vacuum delicate curtains. It did not do a good job vacuuming dust from surfaces such as tables, book shelves etc. Emptying the unit should be done outside. Once the container for the filth is opened it is not unlike dropping an open sack of flour onto the floor. This unit will not go under the front kick plate of kitchen cabinets or under any low furniture. The cost of the vacuum was $549. Save yourself a lot of money and frustration, by not purchasing a dyson vacuum.

A little disappointed.
by angelaggie06 ,Dec 14 '06
Pros: Noise level is better than most vacuums, quality material, easy to empty.
Cons: Doesn't get all the pet hair, a little heavy, no light.
I should have spent a little more and gotten the DC15 Animal. I'm not at all unhappy with the one I have - but with all the hype I expected it to be perfect. I have two labs and it doesn't get all the hair. It is a little heavier than I would like, and doesn't have a light, but I'm happy with the noise level. It is made of quality material, and I haven't had any problems with it, but I've had it less than 4 months. It seems to lose a little suction once the canister begins to fill up. I feel the need to empty it more often than I should have to because of this.

Not Worth the Money Spent
by stars159 ,Jun 21 '08
Pros: Great for wood floors, pet hair attachment
Cons: Not great for carpet, horrible motor, over-priced
I like many others bought a Dyson, two years ago. I loved it at first, but now it seems that it does lose suction. Half of the time I have to vacuum 2 times, just to get everything. We have 2 dogs, and I am very disappointed about its performance on carpet. If you are looking for a vacuum for wood floors. I think it is great. But carpets- Not so much. I ended up having to take it in and get it professionally cleaned out, b/c dirt got around the motor and clogged up "bagless-wind tunnel".

AWESOME!
by ahholt ,Jun 08 '08
Pros: sucks! beauty hose features, easy empty
Cons: price
I absolutely love this vacuum. I got mine for about $399.00, something I never would have spent on a vacuum before, but I am very glad I did. The emptying of the canister is so easy, and you have to empty it often because of all the dirt it sucks up! It even self-height adjusts so you don't have to turn a stupid dial. The hose reaches about 17 ft - nearly the whole stair case, and basically functions as a canister vacuum when doing the bare floors with the hose. I really love it. I can't imagine how it could be any better of a vacuum! (other than cost less I guess!)

What a waste of money
by zetwassadNew Member ,Nov 16 '09
Pros: none
Cons: no suction  and pushes leaves and acorns across my carpet
Bought this for my son was going to give him it for Christmas.  I know from experience to test high dollar items before giving. Brought it home and tried it on my low pile carpet first. There were several leaves and tiny acorns next to the back door. The vac didn't pick the nuts or leaves up. The front of the vac is too close to the floor so all it did was push them around. There is only one two inch area of suction. I can say their guarantee of never loosing suction is correct because it doesn't have any to start with. We went to a store to try their models out and found ours worked as well as the store's so we know the one I bought was not a fluke. My vac is a 10 year old canister Kenmore and you still can suck up a tennis shoe with it. and on a hard floor you can collect dirt from at least two inches from the attachment. I expected to get close to the same pick up from the more money Dyson but what a let down.
