Dyson has gone the way of ...
by zither74 ,Feb 06 '08
Pros: light weight Cons: very cheaply made, poor materials, very poor design, pretty much unusable.
... every other product that has had it's manufacturing shifted to China. The Chinese have ruined this product, just like they have ruined every other product that stingy western corporations have decided to build there, simply because they only have to pay the little seven-year-olds working 16 hours-a-day in the factories $30/month. The mini turbine head will not stay on the end of the hose, the tools are junk, air-flow stinks, the upper catch for winding the power cord broke the first time I wound the cord, among many other problems. Please consider a Hoover Wind Tunnel or a Eureka Sanitaire instead. You will pay about half the price for a better product. You won't get a 5 year warranty, but for my feelings about that, please refer to the movie "Tommy Boy." I can't believe I got swindled out of over $500 for this piece of garbage.

Wow - DC14 Animal
by candywandy ,Jan 05 '05
Pros: Design, ease of use Cons: Suction at top of handle is odd when upright
I had an old vacuum for years and hated it. When we decided to get a new one, the only requirement was that I didn't have to keep attaching and reattaching the hose. Well, we went to Sears, and there was the really cool Dyson. $549 later, I was actually excited to vacuum. It sucked up so much cat hair, and I had just vacuumed with my old one the day before. The improvement to the hose is great - so easy to use!

Best Vacuum is BEST in customer service
by bev0426 ,Apr 28 '06
Pros: Excellent customer service. Free Shipping. No tax. Cons: None that I am aware of.
Haven't even received my vacuum yet, but it is due today. Can't wait to vacuum! :) I had been researching Dyson vacuums for a while, and after extensive research, found that this site had the product I wanted at the best price. So, I placed my order this week. Well, I still can't help but look at the Dyson Vacuums when I am out shopping...just to "Make SURE" I got the best deal. Everywhere I went, they either didn't carry this model or it was significantly more. Until I got to one store. IT WAS LESS!!!! Truly bummed, I came home and emailed customer service to give them the chance to match the price, although there was no reason they should. Within minutes, I had a reply from Mark in Customer service saying the would be able to match the price. Very nice of them to do that and even nicer that they were extremely prompt and polite. Do I recommend Best Vacuum? BY ALL MEANS. Hope to be purchasing something else from them in the near future...just not another vacuum! :)

DC14 Total Clean purchased from Woot
by allmarsh ,Apr 22 '08
Pros: Great suction and cleaning power. Cons: Terrible ratcheting noise when you get slightly under cabinet or couch. Wand kind of awkward.
I recently purchased a Dyson DC14 Total Clean refurbished vacuum from Woot.com. The vacuum looked brand new. It vacuumed great and seemed to pick up a lot of dirt. However, I had a problem with the vacuum whenever I tried to vacuum close to the edge of the couch or under a cabinet. The vacuum would start to make a loud ratcheting noise. It sounded like the brushbar was hitting the plastic on the vacuum. As soon as you stood the vacuum upright again it would stop. Mind you that I wasn't even pushing hard against the front of the couch or the cabinet. This noise was very annoying and it makes me wonder what damage it would cause the vacuum over time.
I called Dyson and they had me remove two thin, foam gaskets near the brushbar, but that did nothing to cure the problem. I am returning the vacuum to Woot at my freight cost because I'm not willing to live with this problem.
If you want a vacuum that has even typical clearance to go under a kitchen cabinet or near the front of the couch this probably isn't the vacuum for you.

Dyson DC 14 & the 1 yr old carpet
by dsadsa ,Nov 23 '05
Pros: The best---You have to see it to believe it. Cons: attachments too small, poor quality and costly
It's clunky, it's yellow (you can find it in a closet)
the hose is a little stiff, and the attachments are really junky and too small and over priced....HOWEVER......
it is the best vacuum cleaner I have ever owned and I have owned an Electrolux, Kirby and a Kenmore that cost over $300.00
My carpet is one year old, and was vacuumed twice a week--
cleaned is a joke, It brushed the top, it never cleaned anything. Then I bought the DC 14, by The fine particle dirt is shocking! I have an 8ft runner in my kitchen, it looks brand new. It is expensive, I got a department store credit card, because I knew my first purchase would have a 25% discount. My cleaning lady is fascinated with it and brings me the canister to show me the dirt.Works great on the hardwood.

Allergies? NO PROBLEM even with dogs!!
by krsideas ,Mar 05 '06
Pros: suction, easy canister clean out, tools easy to use Cons: A little heavy, pricey (but worth it)-consider Kirby pricetag with better results!
My husband and I both suffer from asthma and allergies, but could not live without our two chihuahuas. We have tried various types of vacuums, but would still have breathing problems after sitting in the room that our dogs are in most frequently for just a few minutes. We did our research and decided to buy a Dyson DC14(recommended by our allergy specialist). We first vacuumed our entire house (1800 yards of carpet) with our old Hoover canister vacuum. Then vacuumed again using the new Dyson. It was amazing what this thing picked up! Wads of dog hair, dirt and miscellaneous loose stuff. We had to clean the canister after vacuuming just one of our smaller rooms. I can now sit in our "dog" room without having breathing difficulty and am extremely pleased with how fresh our house smells again.

I must've got a lemon!
by bunkgirls ,May 10 '06
Pros: NONE Cons: price, doesn't suck
I purchased my Dyson a little over a year ago, and immediately I knew it wasn't as great as everything I had heard. I've sucked it up for as long as I could now. And I have to say that my moms Hoover is 20 times better than my Dyson. It doesn't suck up hardly anything and the wand? Forget about it. Doesn't work. I've done everything I'm supposed to, to figure out the problem. I've practically taken apart the whole machine. I've washed the filter like I'm supposed to and checked all the ducts & airways. And still nothing. This was the worst $500 I've spent.

Junque
by rikki64 ,Jul 14 '09
Pros: Design Cons: Very little suction, cheaply made, expensive
Very pretty, well hyped, but it's absolute junk when the rubber meets the road. It has very little suction, the brush clogs easily and the attachments don't stay attached to the unit when being stored. For $350, I expect a whole lot more from an appliance.

Dyson DC14 Animal
by ca11away ,Dec 28 '04
Pros: great with pet hair, good attachment, great length on the telescoping. Cons: mini turbine, dirt finder would have been cool, more space for attachments
Great product, I have a yellow lab and we have been vacuuming every week with a hoover for the past two years. We noticed that after we vacuumed we could still see dog hair on the carpet. We would avoid wearing dark clothing because of the amount of hair that we would accumulate on our clothes. We bought the dyson dc14 last week and love it. I vacuum 2x a week and enjoy every moment. FYI: For those of u about to purchase this vacuum, keep your bed bath and beyond coupons. I was able to apply that 20% coupon towards the dyson, which saved me 110.00. 20% off a 5xx.00 vacuum is huge.

I LOVE my Dyson but....
by doodlebugs ,Jan 29 '05
Pros: Excellent cleaning, ease of use, powerful suction Cons: Under performing mini turbine head, not worth the extra money for this attachment.
I LOVE my Dyson vacuum but forget the animal attachment. The turbine head stops spinning when hitting a soft fabric surface or when any amount of force is applied. It does not pick up animal hair as well as my Dirt Devil does. The hair gets stuck in the turbine bristles and needs to be removed manually not to mention to amount of hair that coats the inside of the head by static electricity.
Other than my big dis-satisfaction with the mini turbine head the vacuum performs miracles when it comes to the ability to extract dirt from carpets and floors. It is easy to use and to maneuver around.
So save yourself some money and buy the regular version!

Expensive but worth it
by rolfbk ,Apr 08 '06
Pros: Powerful, great canister ergonomics Cons: cord wind up, roller brush needs manual cleaning
We owned a Fantom Fury before this one. It died after about 5 years of hard use, and we found out the company had gone out of business. This was more expensive, but is also a superior design. It provides better suction, has an amazing canister design that is easy and sanitary to use, and an effective and washable HEPA filter. There is also an upholstery brush attachment that worked surprisingly well. The only two things that could be improved upon are the cord storage and roller brush. The cord will only wind up and clip securely in one direction; when wound the wrong way the clip doesn't end up on a loose section of cord. The roller brush is probably a problem for any vacuum cleaner; after you've run over enough hair and lint a bunch of it gets stuck in the brushes under the vacuum and they have to be cut free and removed by hand.

Do Not Buy
by drewbaker ,May 14 '09
Pros: None Cons: Destroys Carpet.
This vacuum cleaner destroyed my carpet because of its lack of height adjustment. Dyson has done nothing to replace the damaged carpet furthering my frustration. Do not buy unless you have money to replace your carpet. You will know the first time you use it but then it is too late. Dyson says to use suction only, who buys a vacuum for carpet and doesn't want to use a beater to losen dirt and debris come on.

DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE HYPE
by katescater ,Jul 17 '05
Pros: Pretty bright colors, Ok on wall to wall carpet only Cons: Expensive, Mediocre performance, not enough bang for bucks!!
The Dyson DC 014 SL has many problems. I purchased on July 1 and returned the unit on July 9, 2005. Many of the attachments are thin and flimsy. The unit was heavy. The wand was too short to use the low reach floor tool in a standing position. The suction seemed ok on carpets. But the front power head did not clean hard surfaces well. The front power head head had only two selections hard surface and carpet. There are no pile depth settings on the unit.
The suction is not adjustable. So you can't use the attachments to vacuum delicate curtains. It did not do a good job vacuuming dust from surfaces such as tables, book shelves etc. Emptying the unit should be done outside. Once the container for the filth is opened it is not unlike dropping an open sack of flour onto the floor. This unit will not go under the front kick plate of kitchen cabinets or under any low furniture. The cost of the vacuum was $549. Save yourself a lot of money and frustration, by not purchasing a dyson vacuum.

A little disappointed.
by angelaggie06 ,Dec 14 '06
Pros: Noise level is better than most vacuums, quality material, easy to empty. Cons: Doesn't get all the pet hair, a little heavy, no light.
I should have spent a little more and gotten the DC15 Animal. I'm not at all unhappy with the one I have - but with all the hype I expected it to be perfect. I have two labs and it doesn't get all the hair. It is a little heavier than I would like, and doesn't have a light, but I'm happy with the noise level. It is made of quality material, and I haven't had any problems with it, but I've had it less than 4 months. It seems to lose a little suction once the canister begins to fill up. I feel the need to empty it more often than I should have to because of this.

Not Worth the Money Spent
by stars159 ,Jun 21 '08
Pros: Great for wood floors, pet hair attachment Cons: Not great for carpet, horrible motor, over-priced
I like many others bought a Dyson, two years ago. I loved it at first, but now it seems that it does lose suction. Half of the time I have to vacuum 2 times, just to get everything. We have 2 dogs, and I am very disappointed about its performance on carpet. If you are looking for a vacuum for wood floors. I think it is great. But carpets- Not so much. I ended up having to take it in and get it professionally cleaned out, b/c dirt got around the motor and clogged up "bagless-wind tunnel".
