Pros: Other than the case, one laptop is the same as the next Cons: The down side is you buy support with the laptop
Humbly report. The last piece of astoundingly superior 100% relevant consumerlicious helpfulosity I posted concerned the so-called customer and technical support provided by the venerable eMachines ...
Pros: Fast, Great Specs, Fairly Quiet, Widescreen, Built in wireless ethernet Cons: Space bar to small, touchpad scrolling, and the occasional weird sounds.
As I type this review right now, I am using the Emachines M5312 Powerhouse notebook. Notice, I call it the Powerhouse notebook because its much more powerful and easier to use then my crappy Dell desktop. In fact, this laptop has greater power then ...
Pros: fast. nice widescreen, built in wireless, DVD-Rom, light Cons: gaming, battery life, overhearting, screen hits keys
I bought this laptop about a month ago. I wanted a decent inexpensive laptop. I got what i asked for. This is a great laptop if you're using it for pretty much anything but gaming, and can pretty much only be used on a flat smooth surface unless you ...
Pros: -Large wide screen
-Decent processor
-Wi-Fi G ready
-Cheap price Cons: -Shared Video RAM
-No toll free support line
-Poor Suppot/Customer Service
Here's the short version: -more than 2 months (so far) stuck without a computer -Canadians cannot check repair status online -no toll free support line -no 24 hour support line -a policy of "non compensation" (read: if they mess up they won't make ...
Pros: Price, graphics, wide screen, keyboard volume control, DVD player, touchpad. Cons: Battery life < 3.0 hours. Runs warm with the Athalon Chip.
I bought this machine after shopping for several months. I had experience with Dell Notebooks that I was given to use at work. I could not get the same features in a Dell (even the used ones that came without software) for the same money. I knew it ...
Unbeatable Value, Beautiful WideScreen, 54g, USB 2.0, Firewire - Wow! by juliusma ,Mar 25 '04
Pros: Just Can't Beat the Value of this Notebook! Cons: Runs a little warm, only 1 "ctrl" button, all else is great!
I purchased this m5312 online, brand new for $999 (free S&H). It is worth every penny and more. I don't think there is a notebook out there that can compete with the VALUE of this notebook, considering it is fully loaded (see Title above).
I did receive it (brand new) with 1 dead pixel, called eMachines, they picked it up, fixed it, and sent it back to me in 8 days total. They have a "1-time screen replacement" policy for brand new laptops (within the first 15 days of owning it). After that, it has to have something like 3 or 5 dead pixels before they will touch it again.
But it works perfectly, doesn't run too hot, screen is brilliant, battery runs about 3+ hours, and I have tons of apps on it: Photoshop 7, Elements 2, MS Office, Nero, Bible softwares, etc. With its 512MB/60GB set up, it's an unbeatable value.
Pros: oversized keys, wireless capabilities, wide screen, speed, light weight Cons: runs a tad hot, space bar a little small, could be more ergonomic
I bought my M5312 about a month ago as a refurb online. I have not been disappointed. I pretty much threw my desktop out the window and have made the switch to just laptop. I'm a full time student and I'm still getting used to being on a laptop full time, but so far so good. I've attached an external mouse, so I don't have to deal w/ the touch pad too much.
I have big hands and the oversized keypad buttons are really nice. It's taking some getting used to, but I love the ability to lock the number pad on the abc keypad...very cool for data entry!!!
I have noticed the laptop runs a tad hot, but not to the extent of burning any body parts. I've watched dvds on it and listened to cds....great audio AND video. I've yet to test drive the wireless capabilities, but I am looking forward to doing that very soon at school.
I love this machine. It was obviously the most pack for the punch in the wallet. Other machines were hundreds of dollars more. I'm glad I spent the money. You will be too.
Pros: cheap, internal wireless, great features Cons: horrible support, cheaply made.
Bought refurbed from dartek.com/tigerdirect.com (same company). Things started going wrong as soon as 90 day refurb warranty was up. Touchpad has stopped working and USB mouse crashes XP for some reason. The 3 USB ports play a shell game as to which one is going to work today. Otherwise, wireless, screen, dvd player etc seems to be working well, knock on wood.
Nice featured notebook at a good price. by inrealitydj ,Mar 20 '04
Pros: Price vs. amount of features compared to other brands. Cons: Loud fan noise, runs warm, bad software bundle.
This is my third notebook. I first had a Compaq 1200 series, now have a Medion 2900 and this new (refurbished)eMachines M5312. My first impression is it's a solid notebook. Not too heavy and feature rich. My first complaint is the fan noise is much louder that any other notebook I've ever owned. Second is that when I received it it had one discolored pixel on the LCD screen(very noticeable on dark background)and eMachines only warrants two or more pixels discolored. That stinks! Bundled software stinks too. Overall I've been using this notebook for a few days and would buy another if I needed one bad. I use it for a disc jockey business as a back up. The quality is good, the performance is great, and the price was unbeatable.
Pros: built in wireless-g, widescreen, price. Cons: mediocre battery life and on-board graphics.
While browsing in Best Buy I noticed this laptop. The widescreen was an attention grabber and it was nicely styled. I did some research due to some worries about possible quality issues with emachines and, after finding generally favorable reviews, got this with a $150 rebate - making it about $400 less than similarly featured machines at the time. The fact that the g wireless was based on a draft standard was a concern at first but I installed a wireless network in my home in a few hours and the m5312 immediately connected. No problems. The construction is solid and the touch/feel of the keyboard is better than many. The fan noise is noticeable but not as loud as others that I have heard. The graphics are ok, but not special. Same comment for the sound. It has not run hot for me. In my view the comparatively large hard drive, widescreen, and wireless-g combined with other attributes that are average to better than average make this a bargain even without rebates.
Pros: 1.8 GHZ, 60 GB, 512 MB, DVD-CDRW, Widescreen, Thin, keyboard, trackpad, $1K Cons: Too noisy for class, Hot enough to defrost a turkey, eats battery in 2 hours
Its hot and noisy!
And arent laptops supposed to be able to go on your lap!! not this one because A) it will burn your thigh and B) the air inlet for the cooling is on the bottom, so it overheats and shuts off with no warning after a couple minutes on your leg!
