Pros: It was extremely easy to upgrade. Cons: The micro ATX is very small and is a little cramped.
This is by far, the best machine I have ever owned. It now is running a Giga Byte and a half of RAM. Talking about fast!!! When I originally bought it, it had 256 MBs of RAM, an 80 GB HD, a 2.6 GhZ Pentium IV processor, a single layer DVD burner, a DVD ...

Great computer at an excellent value; Have fun burning DVDs

Pros: Excellent buy for Pentium 4 processor and DVD burner. Painless expandability. Improved tech support. Cons: Shoddy keyboard, mouse, and speakers. On-board video and sound.
Updated 7-31-06: I've only experienced a couple of problems with this W4682 in 3 years. One problem was a DVD-ROM drive failure. Emachines quickly shipped a new drive to install. The other was a failure of the power switch on the 17" monitor. Even with these problems, I would rate reliability as excellent due to the quick resolution of problems.
I've called eMachines tech support several times. Their tech support has vastly improved from their early days. Each time I've called, the hold times were very short, the reps are not scripted, and they're in the good ol' USA.
This Emachines W4682 is almost 3 years old now, and is not outdated by any means due to it's ease of upgradeability. Upgrading is painless since eMachines didn't stick proprietary garbage in this machine. The computer even has a spare 4x AGP slot so the video card can be upgraded. Also, there are 3 PCI expansion slots. I have owned several other eMachines before this, and have experienced little trouble with upgrades.
In short, I love eMachines for their low price, upgradeability, and reliability. Plus, tech support have improved greatly over the past few years.

bought in 2003, dead in 2006

Pros: inexpensive, decent features for price Cons: not enough watts, no case fan included, cramped case
It worked great for a few years, no probs, everything was smooth... until a day ago, the computer kept shutting down after you power it on, until it eventually wouldn't power on at all.
I found out that the motherboard is fried, and the PC only had a 250 watt power supply, when I needed a minimum of 425watts.
So now I'm off to buy a new motherboard and better power supply. We'll see how hard it is to get the old motherboard out. I had to take out the DVD drive just to remove the power supply. There's barely any room for even flat cables to fit between the drive and the power supply, as they're all crammed back-to-back at the top of the case.
