Good top exhaust dehumidifier

by upstream , Jun 19 '06
Pros: Top exhaust, useful digital display
Cons: Efficient but noisy fan
First, the picture shown at the epinions page is incorrect. You can find correct picture from Walmart.com My Fedders 45 pint humidifier from Wal-mart has been running for three days. I have a house built two years ago and the 1300sq.ft ...

Ok but noisy

by jabba2000 , Jul 10 '05
Pros: Good price, does the job, digital setting and display.
Cons: Noisy.
I had to get a new dehumidifier for my basement after my prior one malfunctioned (coils iced up constantly). I liked this one for several reasons: Good price (137 at Walmart.com, plus shipping, still cheaper than comparable ones in stores), nice digital ...

Since it was GIVEN to me...

by ginger71 , Oct 22 '07
Pros: Easy to use and look at. Nice size for our house (3800 SQ.FT).
Cons: Not sure if it is doing its best, but it works for us.
I am not so sure that I'm happy with this Fedders model. The humidifier certainly gets the moisture content down quickly, but where is the water going?? The catchbasin doesn't get more than 3 inches of water in it with the machine running 24 hrs or ...

Good for a while. Unit now overheats & no longer works
by windsailor ,Jul 02 '04
Pros: Relatively Quiet, doesn't dim the lights, lowered humidity in the room within hours.
Cons: The housing continued to rattle and got louder over time.
UPDATE:
Unit worked up until 2007. Compressor gets hotter than a pan left on the stove. Smells of burning and no moisture condenses. It should probably be recalled due to the amount of heat that it produces. Fedder doesn't seem to think so. Buy another brand.
----------------------------------------------------

I finally bought one after much research. I bought the Fedder 45 pint from Menard's for $150. This is identical to the Maytag version since they make it. The Maytag has a better warranty with a 5 year on everything but cost another $40 from HD. I looked at the Delongi (another highly rated option, slightly smaller) but the tray to empty is in the back which is annoying for those smaller spaces.
Pros: Quiet (the compressor is louder than the fan), doesn't dim the lights, efficiently lowered humidity in the room within a few hours. I like the inset handles on either side for moving from room to room.

Cons: The plastic pan/tray was rattling at first making quite a racket but this went away after pulling it out and putting it back in.

It works a lot better and runs more quiet than the old one I had.

A good dehumidifier cheap at Walmart
by jamescyberjoe ,Nov 12 '06
Pros: Dehumidifies well, uses little energy doing it
Cons: can be noisy under heavy use
Simple to use machine. You plug it in, turn it on.
Set your humidity and temperature setpoints and fan speed.
The machine will then turn on and do it's job.
This is an unglamorous machine that performs an important function and it does it well-remove moisture from the air.
It is energy efficient and fairly quiet.
It will operate down to 42 degrees which is good in cool basements.
I use the hose attachment feature as this device is so good at what it does, emptying the bucket every day is a chore.

Please note: The picture shown is not this model. Walmart.com has the proper picture on it's website.

Noisy and limited
by bardays ,Jan 21 '06
Pros: Auto shut off, works great in small spaces.
Cons: noisy and only works for small spaces
We bought one of these when me moved into a humid area. Our windows were always wet and starting to mold. This unit works great in the room you put it in. If you want to do a bigger space, you need to move it from room to room. We were emptying a bucket a day from one room alone. One nice feature is it will turn off when you reach the desired humidity.
It is very noisy. Not a problem if it is in a room where you are not.
Turns out we returned it to Walmart in favour of a more expensive one that can do our whole townhouse.

Don't buy Fedders A7DH45B2A Dehumidifier
by michaelamiller ,Sep 14 '07
Pros: Controls easy to use.
Cons: Expensive to operate, repair, and maintain. Very noisy and not to efficient.
I purchased Fedders A7DH45B2A Dehumidifier and after a little over one year the fan failed. There was a cost of $ 45 to determine that the fan failed, for which I could have been charged up to $ 95. and the repair would cost another $ 64.
I chose not to repair the unit because it was noisy and I think had other issues. The fan was warranted for one year and it just passed out of this period. I did not find the unit effective in removing moisture only just passable.

It worked for 2 years
by ordinary116 ,Nov 16 '07
Pros: Before it broke, it worked well.
Cons: Noisy, and broke down after only 2 years
It's fairly noisy, but it worked well for two years with light to moderate use. We used it in a small unvented bathroom after the shower was used. After two years, it stopped condensing water. The fan runs but no water drops into the bin, when the air is obviously filled with moisture. To have it checked and repaired, we'll have to take it to a service center. We're disappointed that it's only lasted two years.

I was happy but its dead now
by timthetoolman ,Oct 24 '08
Pros: Lasted 5 years and did a good job.
Cons: I would have liked it to last 10 years
Had this dehumidifier for about 5 years running on and off as required in my basement in humid coastal North Carolina. It kept the humidity at a steady 55. Now it seems dead because when I plug it in it blows the circuit breaker. I will probably buy another just like it because I am tired of researching and reading conflicting reviews and what the heck 5 years is a pretty good run.

by rich19551313 ,Jun 16 '09
Pros: It worked for 10 months over 2 years...big deal.
Cons: Broken...no support.
DON'T BUY FEDDERS! My unit (2 years old) does not work since starting it this spring and there is NO SUPPORT since Fedders in is bankruptcy.

If you buy this and it fails...good luck getting any support!
