Pros: The remote is good to throw at the hubby when he's out of line. Cons: Doesn't work
I received this hunk o' junk as a gift (some gift). It seemed pretty good because we needed a DVD player, but still have a lot of VHS tapes that my son likes to watch. About 4 DVD's later, the problems began. At first, the unit would freeze up in the ...
A Highly Over-rated Product I want you to know that Epinions requires me to give a product at least one star. This product doesn't deserve a star. It deserves a warning sign, which at least one retail employee I'm aware of is trying to give it. ...
Pros: Easy to use Cons: Common DVD player failure.
We purchased this unit for my son's room and it worked great for 10 months. It was easy to setup and use. It then just stopped reading DVDs. It would just spin and not load the DVD. I called the mfg (Funai Corp) and they told me to unplug the unit ...
I'm kind of surprised by the negative reviews I've read on this DVD/VCR player. I've had it now for a couple of months and have enjoyed it completely. I bought it on a recommendation from my in laws. They have had theirs for 6 months and have yet to have ...
Pros: In expensive, had the features we needed, easy to use remote Cons: The DVD side stopped working soon after we purchased it
I am so frustrated. I just hate when we buy products that just don't perform - especially in the Electronics area because they never are cheap! We decided to take the plunge and get a DVD player since our young son was going to be getting a number of ...
I set this unit up in a guest room and did not get around to testing it for a few months. When I went to try it out so guests could use it I found out it did not play DVDs. Kept giving the message "this type of disk cannot be used" even though I was testing standard DVD Video disks.
Pros: It does what its supposed to. Has never given me problems. Cons: None.
I have had my Emerson EWD2203 dvd/vcr combo for almost 4 years and it has always worked perfectly. It has never given me problems. One of the best things that I have bought so far. I love it!
Pros: inexpensive Cons: dvd stops working, remote dies fast
I bought this at Wal-Mart in August of '04 for $118. The dvd player worked for about a year, then stopped reading discs randomly. I tried a laser cleaner, but no such luck. Trouble shooting in the manual didn't help. It's not fixable! Sometimes, if I'm feeling lucky, I can watch a part of a dvd until the player starts to go nuts and eventually just stops working. VHS still works, but the remote died quickly--doesn't work even if you replace the batteries. I ended up buying another cheap dvd player to put on top of the VHS...so basically I'm left with an expensive vcr!
Pros: makes a good splash in the lake, hard to drain for storage on boat. Cons: Coax Cable difficult to tie to the boat for anchoring.
Got this boat anchor for Xmas decided to finally play my first ever dvd (STAR WARS TRILOGY) got all excited played with the neat DVD menu stuff, then started the movie the friggen thing DISK ERROR'd me after 15 MINS!!! so now I'm bummed, but im gonna go buy a real dvd player and stay away from Funai/emerson ripoffs!
Junk. I wish I would have seen this first. by northlandreade ,Aug 25 '06
Pros: Nothing. It's junk. Cons: It will only last a few months at best.
As you'll see others have said . . . I bought mine at Wal-Mart too. I probably used the DVD less than 10 times. As soon as the warranty expired, the DVD did too. The VCR continues to work (not that I use it much either). Do yourself a favor and do not buy this product. It's designed to fail.
I repair electronics, the experience I've had with this unit EWD2203 is much the same as other people on here, the vcr plays/records but the DVD doesn't play, comes up with the error, it however does play cd's. Near as I can figure out is the mechanisim that moves the lazer is cheap and wears out and isn't able to find the right track on the dvd's. As with most cheap electronics, there is too much plastic and the plastic parts are not well made...quality control has nothing to do with it, the whole problem with this unit stems from the design....I suggest buying Panisonic or Philips brand.
Pros: Appears to be of good quality, and worked ok with a very short life. Cons: VCR worked for one week ,and DVD worked for three month.
Big rip-off .
Appears to be a quality product, but only lasted a short time. The vcr only lasted one week and started destroying tapes and could not be used. Contacted Emerson and was told that they only cover the parts and not labor. The labor would probably would be almost the cost of the unit.
Stopped using the VCR and played the DVD which lasted about three month .and stopped reading .
I have had the Emerson EWD2203 for about 3 months i only watched about 5 DVDs and a few VHS tapes and it worked fine. I went to play a DVD on day and it wont work it keeps sayin "DISK ERROR" "MAY NOT BE A READABLE DISK" so i tried some more disks and they dont work either!! This thing in a piece of crap just like everyone else says Walmart and other stores need to check their products before letting people buy them! DONT BUY!

Pros: Looks good Cons: Piece of junk. DVD never worked
I bought this product in Feb 2004 and thought I had used the DVD before. When I just tried to play one I couldn't get the DVD drawer to open, and naturally, figured I hadn't hooked it up properly. WRONG. It just plain does not open. I should have read these reviews before purchasing and I paid OVER a $100 to boot.
I bought this dvd/vhs player at Wal-mart after christmas 2 years ago because my vhs player was dying and I had never owned a DVD player. It worked fine for a year and a half or so. This past February I tried to play a DVD on it and the player said there was a disc error. I tried several more times, but each time the player would try to read it for a few minutes and then the error message would come up. I thought that maybe it was just me, but I found out that several of my brother's friends had also bought the same product and the EXACT SAME THING happened to them. I would highly recommend not buying this product because it seems that it is VERY FAULTY!!! I have read reviews from other people online who have problems with both the VHS and DVD parts, including subtitle and playback problems. In short, buy something else.
