Pros: Classic looking toaster, four settings and ten browning choices. Cons: The slots for the toast are too deep. Outside gets hot to touch.
GE 169137 Classic 4-Slice Toaster I woke up from a nap and went into the kitchen. Sitting on the counter was a snazzy looking new toaster. The GE 169137 Classic 4-Slice Toaster has a stainless finish and matches my other appliances. ...
Pros: Good looking toaster that performs consistently and predictably Cons: Doesn't come with a free bank account
Our GE 4-slice toaster was a Christmas gift two years ago. It replaced a temperamental Sunbeam 4-slice toaster, and has been a pleasure to use. The GE 169137 Classic is a 4-slice toaster with separate controls for each 2-slice group. It has extra ...
Pros: Large toasting capacity, Durable, Attractive, Classic, Affordable, Easy clean up, and it's Family-Sized! Cons: Possibly too many functions/selections, the knobs detract from the simplicity of the design.
Having searched online for quite a while for a "retro" style, practical toaster, to blend in with my retro kitchen, I didn't think I was going to get away with anything under $79 plus shipping. When I saw this one in Wal-Mart, the style was appealing. I ...
Pros: Ease of use, wide-mouth, cancel button Cons: Can't cook english muffins, or pop-tarts
I love the four slice toaster...no more waiting for the person in front of you to finish! I love the stainless look to it. It now matches the other appliances in the kitchen. The wide-mouth design is great for bagels, and texas toast. It has a bread ...
Pros: Attractive styling, four large toasting slots, durable, consistent toasting, slide out crumb trays Cons: Small muffins/toast don't eject well, get stuck, need to fish them out with fork
Good overall performance from this toaster, has stood up well with heavy usage so it is durable and strong. It's a very attractive unit which will look well on any counter. Has four large slots which handle large pieces/bagels but also has problem with ...
Pros: Good looks, wide slots, Bagel function, and a Cancel button Cons: Very slow, takes multiple cycles to toast bagels, done toast not raised enough to remove
Epinions lists this toaster as "no longer available". Not true - it's presently (2008) sold in the 2-slice and 4-slice variety in Wal-marts. I bought the 2-slice version, which isn't listed on this site. It's identical to the 4-slice version, but the ...
Do no waste your money on this toaster! by hogue123 ,Jul 22 '04
Pros: You can toast 4 slices at a time Cons: Slots are too deep, everything (except toast) gets stuck.
I shopped around and found the GE classic 4 slice toaster. The price was great ($34.73) and it looks nice. The box described the features I was looking for. I have used the toaster a few times and everytime I do, food gets stuck. The toaster has a feature that lifts the food up another 3/4 of an inch to get the food out easier. So far, everything I've put in there (toaster strudel, toaster french toast sticks, waffles, gardenburger) have got stuck. I have to pry them out with a plastic fork. The other thing that bothers me about this toaster is that when I toast bread in it, even on the highest setting, the butter won't melt on the bread even when taking the bread out immediately after it pops up. The bread is toasted but not really warm?!!
Looks are definitely deceiving! by nikki444 ,Mar 31 '05
Pros: Looks great - easy to clean Cons: Everything else!
Beautiful looking toaster...but that's as far as it goes. This toaster came highly recommended from another "product rating site". Boy, will that magazine get a letter from me! It is hard to get stuff out even with the extra lift but that's not what erks me. You have to have the browning level up to the highest level in order to get a proper piece of toast. And don't even think about bagels. If you press the "bagel" button, anything you put on the inside slots doesn't get toasted properly. The reheat button doesn't actually reheat. Bottom line, if I hadn't bought this out of country, it would have gone back.
The GE Classic Toaster Finally a toaster I love! by flagbabygirl ,Feb 07 '07
Pros: All around Great toaster for any household Cons: slots too big for English muffins hard to get out.
I asked for a new toaster for Christmas and what I received was a GE Classic toaster. It has all the bells and whistles! 8 Temp. settings, a defrost for frozen bread, a bagel setting, and extra wide slots so nothing ever get stuck in there! also it has a removable tray for crumbs and Great style!
Pros: Actually toasts bread rather than making cardboard. Cons: Toast could pop up higher for easier reaching of smaller breads.
When old toaster died, we went through quite a few trying to find one that actually toasted toast and not just made cardboard. Some just wouldn't toast. Others the slots weren't big enough for wide breads nor deep enough for them. We don't use the bagel or frozen food options. Ordered this one through Walmart online but available only for in-store pickup.
Absolutely love this toaster. It does my toast exactly like I want it. My husband says that the toast doesn't come up high enough for his smaller sized bread, even when pushing up the lever. With my larger wide pan bread there was no problem.
The front access crumb trays are extremely convenient making cleanup a snap. Chrome finish is easy to keep sparkling clean.
Controls are well-placed and good sized.
I don't understand why bread no longer pops up to be reachable no matter what size. Probably some safety issue I never considered. Whatever, this is the perfect toaster for us.
oops the English Muffins are lost in the nooks and crannies by maxzee777 ,Dec 27 '06
Pros: The wide slots are roomy enough bagels. The push up handle makes them retrievable. Cons: The one problem I've encountered is lifting the English Muffins out.
I received the GE 4 slice wide mouth toaster as a Christmas gift. I was immediately impressed with it as I was used to using an old fashioned 2 slice thin toaster. This one had style; it was stainless steel with wide openings which could fit bagels and even a defrost cycle when those frozen waffles are just a little too frozen to toast. I liked the higher setting as my bagels could be lifted out easily after toasting. The variety of settings were also a good thing. Whether the preference is for lightly toasted or burnt the settings are available. It has bagel, defrost, reheat and on/cancel. It has easily removable crumb trays and despite those pesky fingerprints on the outside it is easy enough to wipe down. It does take up a lot of space on my counter but is worth it since it is used relentlessly.
Not impressed and very disappointed by maroon3 ,Feb 14 '09
Pros: Nice looking and easy to clean. Cons: Dried out toast and takes forever to brown.
Overall it takes forever to brown a piece of toast and when it is brown it is then dry, also every hard to get the bread out. I have always liked GE products and have all GE appliaces. GE failed with this toaster my last GE was just for toast, I'm now looking for a toaster for bread only.
