GE Wireless Optical Mouse...H097990...Happy Birthday To Me!

by kamel622 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Dec 23 '05
Pros: *Great colors
*Comfortable design
Cons: *This thing EATS batteries!
This review is a difficult one to write. Not because I’m no techie, although that is quite true, but the subject of this review, General Electric Wireless Optical Mouse was a birthday gift from my hubby. About a month before my birthday he ...

GE should stick to Household Appliances

by joe-uncool , Jul 11 '04
Pros: Wireless mouse that inexpensive and has good optical quality
Cons: Almost everything, it died in 2 months, and can't scroll, is sluggish.
After having problems with my Gateway optical mouse, I took a trip to the local Target to look for and inexpensive mouse. Not really a computer master yet, I was looking at wireless mice, which I know now are not great for online gaming. Seeing a ...

GE Wireless Computer Mouse

by sunrisdlrlr , Jan 25 '06
Pros: Ergonomic design, easy to install, price was good.
Cons: Eats batteries like crazy!
This mouse was very easy to set up, taking only a couple of minutes. This was my first wireless mouse and I really liked that feature, plus the ergonomic design was very comfortable and it moved smoothly and quickly. I would've been very happy with this ...

Tech support rates an 'F'

by planotexan , Sep 05 '04
Pros: Inexpensive. Looks good.
Cons: Mouse-button programming is incompatible with WindowsXP SP2 O/S (for Revision 2 mouse).
This is a 'pretty' mouse, feels good to the hand. That's where the good news ends. The instruction manual clearly states that the mouse supports the Windows XP operating system. It's fairly easy to follow. It gives a phone number, as well as a web ...

Terrible on batteries!

by hyphenate , Apr 09 '05
Pros: I love the ability to be wireless and optical!
Cons: The batteries drain so bloody quick! The last set lasted less than a week!
I love this mouse. At least I think I do. It's great because I don't have to worry about wrapping a cord around everything, switching from left to right (I'm a leftie) or even working on my lap when one of my furbabies decides she wants to sleep in ...

DON'T BOTHER!
by kellyalbrecht ,Mar 17 '04
Pros: None, when you consider it lasts less than two weeks
Cons: HUNK OF JUNK
I can hardly believe it but this mouse stopped working in exactly 10 days also, just like another reviewer. It was a leap of faith for us to try wireless and optical, our previous mouse (original equipment which lasted three years)died and we had no way to check Epinions to see what would be a good replacement. Read my lips: THIS ISN'T IT! This mouse was a little hair-trigger, hard to putt on golf games, but I suppose we could have tweaked the settings. We never got the chance, the thing started getting goofy at about day 8 and now on day 10 it took me a full half hour to navigate to this page to check reviews and write this one. I need to find out what to buy to replace this piece of garbage and I don't want to make the same mistake twice.

By the way, it has new, expensive batteries in it, it is the required distance from all other computer equipment, and I've hit the programming buttons 50 times now trying to get it to work again.

Poor tracking, choppy movement
by meitzner ,Mar 25 '04
Pros: inexpensive
Cons: doesn't scroll smoothly
Despite the claim that this mouse provides 800 dpi for greater movement resolution than other wireless optical mice, it was pretty choppy for me. Moving the receiver away from my DSL modem/router gave a little improvement, however it still was hit or miss on whether the cursor would move when the mouse was moved. The ergonomics were okay, however I returned it and got a Microsoft optical wireless mouse and it feels much much better. The GE mouse worked better on a mousepad than on my desktop, however the Microsoft mouse works on any surface, even a perfectly mono-chromatic glossy surface. Even though the MS mouse I got isn't technically compatible with Windows ME, which I'm using (that just means you can't install the software for battery life tracking), I'd still recommend paying the extra few bucks and getting the Microsoft mouse. Perhaps a Logitech would work nice too, but Target had the MS's on sale...

Works Great For 2+ Years
by petfarm ,Jul 31 '05
Pros: Great Freedom & Preciseness
Cons: None
I've had my mouse for nearly two years. I think it will always work properly if you know how to use it. It looks like many people on here complain of the mouse quitting after a short period of time... the only time I have problems with the mouse quitting or being sluggish is when the batteries are about to die. The best method i have is get a pair of rechargables cause about every month you will need 2 new "AA"s.

Great Value & solid performance
by mrric ,Jun 23 '04
Pros: 5' range and 256 security code channels
Cons: none yet
I purchased the Microsoft "Blue" wireless mouse and hated it because the electrical interference rendered it useless.
Comparing this new mouse to the MS one in the exact same environment means that the playing field is even and this one performs way better than the MS version.

The scroll wheel and all of the buttons are solid and work as promised and it has a 5' range from the receiver which unlike my MS mouse, can be hidden away. No line of site required.

Good while it lasted, but didn't last long
by severalhats ,Jul 05 '06
Pros: Nice clean fast cheap battery-efficient
Cons: Failed suddenly and without cause
Bought this at Target for $20
Good points: I experienced very low battery consumption, but it sounds like I may be the only one. Nice mouse, quick and precise, both in Windows and Linux (No extra drivers required in either).

The optical sensor died about two months after purchase. The scroll wheel and buttons work fine, but the optical sensor is toast. It still shines the light, but no surface registered movement. I replaced the batteries (2 different brands, store-bought new) and cleaned the sensor (first dry, then with isopropyl alcohol), but no change. To the garbage heap....

by hawksrn ,Feb 08 '06

What a mistake I made!!!
by tonyottaino ,Nov 16 '05
Pros: nice looking and makes a good paperweight
Cons: it's reliable only 5% of the time.
This is the worst mouse/pointing device I have even used in all my years of computing. I recommend ANYTHING but this device. It worked good for a couple of days and then because spotty, jerky, or wouldn't work at all. What a waste.

GE Wireless Optical Mouse
by daman8837 ,Jan 04 '04
Pros: Back and Forward IE buttons on the side of the mouse.
Cons: STOPPED WORKING!
The mouse has many wonderful features, such as built-in back and forward buttons for Internet Explorer. The mouse comes with a wireless RF receiver that can attach to your USB or mouse connection. It comes with its own software to customize the button functions.

CONS: Worked great for 10 days, then suddenly stopped working completely. I have read other people complain of the same thing. If you want to fall in love with a mouse, get this one...but buy lots of batteries, and get ready to buy a replacement mouse. It really is a good mouse when it works.
By the way: I'm not using it now, to write this..though I wish I was.
