Pros: Lots of connections
Cheap Cons: Average picture quality
Poor customer service from gateway
OK, let me start by saying I bought this tv after reading a few good reviews and deciding that I wanted to spend under $3000. Also, my place is small and CRT would have just killed what little space I have. So I bought the Gatway and here is the deal: ...
I purchased a Gateway 42inch plasma for the then going rate of 2999.99. The store told me there was no shipping charge and it would be about a month because of back-order. I waited and no tv. I called the store to check on what was going on. Evidently ...
Pros: liked it while it lasted (4 mns)... Cons: tv stopped working, costly to have fixed, now junk!
I purchased this tv from a GTW country store when they closed last march/april. The tv stopped working in July - it was nice while it lasted (4 mns). The thing that gets me is that the manufacture date on the tv is 08/2003... the tv went bad less than ...
Pros: Looks pretty in my living room when it's not turned on. Cons: Picture, sound, tech support, heat
I saw this television displayed at my local Gateway country store. I was blown away by the picture. I had to have it. When I got mine delivered. I was blown away....by the fact that I have a 5 inch portable black & white television that has a better ...
Pros: Great value, great picture, great buying experience at Gateway. Cons: Picture quality relates to the signal it receives..darks could be better.
This is my first review ever written so here it goes...I began my shopping experience by hitting all the typical big box electronic retailers...Best Buy, Circuit City, Tweeter and Sears and did my homework by reading reviews on the web. I must say, that i ...
Like many others, I bought a Gateway plasma TV and on the 14th month, it just stopped working.
I was told that it would cost $500 for them to come and diagnos the problem, so I took it to a local repair shop. After 8 weeks of trying to find the "power board" the shop finally said "I can't help you". I called Gateway and they confirmed that if it was the power board of a SAMPO product, then it was indeed un-fixable. The guy at Gateway said my TV was "garbage". I bought another TV with a broken screen so that the parts could be used for mine, but now there is a line running across my screen which apparently happens when the power board goes. Gateway is doing nothing to help.
I'm filing a class action lawsuit and already have the lawyer. If you are as upset as I am and want to get in on this, email me at deltaneutral69@yahoo.ca
Pros: price and looks Cons: The picture has not lasted for more than 2-3 months before needing service.
I bought a 42" Gateway plasma tv last Christmas and from ordering it until now its have been a horrible experience. I have had the Tv replaced by Gateway three times since last year. They just brought me another one yesterday and that one is also broken, right out of the box. I have spent close to 60 hours on the phone over the last year and now after calling the corp. HQ I am getting my money back. This is the worst company I have ever delt with. Do not ever buy one of there products!
Temp fix for my 42" Plasma Gateway TV by m7hammond1 ,May 01 '05
Pros: Inexpensive for the features Cons: Inconsistant customer support, and the obvious breaking after 14 months
After 14 months, I started having problems with my TV. It wouldn't turn on, unless I pulled the plug and put it back in. Over the next two months, it got worse. I would have to pull the plug 10 or 15 times before it would finally come on. Once it was on, it would stay on until I turned of off. But it would take 10-15 minutes of doing that before it would turn on. So, I took matters into my own hands. I took the TV apart and tried to find loose connections. I didn't find any (yet), but I noticed that when I took the part off the back where all the RCA connections are, leaving only the DVI and VGA, the TV works perfectly. It turns on with the remote, all the buttons work, and the TV turns off like it should. Hmmmm.
Dead in 14-months. Too bad so sad says Gateway. by stconlin ,May 28 '05
Pros: value pricing Cons: completely worthless after 14-months
My Gateway 42" plasma TV arrived 14-months ago. Last week, it would not turn on. Gateway support said:
(1) they are aware of the problem,
(2) there is no way to repair the problem, and
(3) because the warranty expired after 12 months, they won't replace the unit.
I specifically asked Gateway to extend my warranty so that another unit would be sent as a replacement, but instead they offered me $200 towards the purchase of another television from Gateway.
Aren't there "lemon laws" that protect consumers that make $1,000+ consumer product purchases?
