Pros: Great value, great picture, great buying experience at Gateway. Cons: Picture quality relates to the signal it receives..darks could be better.
This is my first review ever written so here it goes...I began my shopping experience by hitting all the typical big box electronic retailers...Best Buy, Circuit City, Tweeter and Sears and did my homework by reading reviews on the web. I must say, that i ...
Pros: Lots of connections
Cheap Cons: Average picture quality
Poor customer service from gateway
OK, let me start by saying I bought this tv after reading a few good reviews and deciding that I wanted to spend under $3000. Also, my place is small and CRT would have just killed what little space I have. So I bought the Gatway and here is the deal: ...
Pros: Looks pretty in my living room when it's not turned on. Cons: Picture, sound, tech support, heat
I saw this television displayed at my local Gateway country store. I was blown away by the picture. I had to have it. When I got mine delivered. I was blown away....by the fact that I have a 5 inch portable black & white television that has a better ...
I purchased a Gateway 42inch plasma for the then going rate of 2999.99. The store told me there was no shipping charge and it would be about a month because of back-order. I waited and no tv. I called the store to check on what was going on. Evidently ...

I purchased this tv from a GTW country store when they closed last march/april. The tv stopped working in July - it was nice while it lasted (4 mns). The thing that gets me is that the manufacture date on the tv is 08/2003... the tv went bad less than ...
Great TV for the price... by hdman_dt3000 ,Mar 10 '03
Great TV for the price but like all Plasmas this tv has trouble displaying the color black and dark shadows. TV does not really look all that great unless you have a picture from a good source. So unless you look at a really good bright DVD or an HDTV source(Direct TV in HD) you may be disapointed. The sound quality sucks but most plasmas don't have speakers at all. Anyone with a plasma should have a home theater system to run their sound through. A good deal over all.
Good value but wish I had waited... by jeff9977 ,Mar 29 '04
Pros: improvement over analog tv, ability to watch movies in 16x8, good pricing/incentives Cons: not HDTV, poor sound (as mentioned in other reviews)
Bought the 42" Gateway plasma due to the low price (2999.00), free shipping, and one year interest free. After having the set for a few months now though I wish I had waited before making the purchase. I didn't fully understand the difference between HDTV and EDTV when buying this set and made the mistake of assuming all plasmas were HDTV. Lesson learned. The picture is still enjoyable and watching DVDs in 16x8 is great but with the speed at which this segment of the industry is moving I wish I had waited for the true HDTV plasmas to come down in price. But, if you're like me and just have the plasma bug and can't wait this set will work. My thoughts now though are that eventually I'll move this set to my bedroom and get a true HDTV for the family room.
This is my first Plasma TV, and it has not been worth the price thus far. It buzzes constantly, especially when a cartoon like the Simpsons or Family Guy is displayed. After several support calls on this, it was determined that since I live in Denver and am at a higher elevation the TV has to use more power, which makes it run hotter, and thus sound like a bee-hive. The tech told me to turn down contrast and resolution settings, but this only reduces the buzzing slightly and totally ruins any kind of good picture quality that I bought this thing for in the first place. So my piece of advice is, do not buy this TV if you live above sea-level. Also, it's horrible for cable TV. The sound is terrible, the picture is greenish, and you get blue-screened when you flip through each channel. Finally, every so often the screen will make a cracking sound like the pixels are blowing. I am just waiting for this thing to explode one day, based on how hot it runs. Asta la vista Gateway.
