  • It isn't an Ipod (unfortunately)

    Sep 13, 2004 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: 100 bucks cheaper and comes with more stuff (case, remote, cords, etc)
Cons: bigger and heavier, not as "cool" as the Ipod, sound quality

Summary: If you've entered this area of Epinions chances are you know about the Ipod and you want it (unforunately I was in the same position). Whether it is its simple lines, neutral white color and reflective polished silver back or just the fact that it is an ... read more

  • Worth the 200$ price tag

    Sep 1, 2004 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Nicely designed, Low price, easy to use interface
Cons: Windows media player needed to reconcile (its_very_slow) flaps on the usb ports/DC port_stick_out_after_you_use_them.

Summary: id suggest purchasing this product due to its low price large capacity to hold songs if youre not an Apple afficianado (as i'm surely not). however dont be fooled by its claims on the box that it holds 20 gigs, you only get 18.5 gigs to use. So far ... read more

Pros: Without support there are no pros.
Cons: Radio, software, lack of support which is necessary with a new product.

Summary: I bought the DMP-X20 over the IPOD because it had a radio--bad idea. The radio is for all intents and purposes worthless, and I mean worthless. The overall sound of the MP3 player for songs is very good. However, Gateway's support of this product is ... read more

Pros: + Cool line-out mode + Radio ok for TV/audio gym use
Cons: -Lame Bugs -20GB is not as impressive these days for $300

Summary: The first player I got would not sync up with 3 different computers. I wasted 2 hours+ with tech support trying to solve the problem. The replacement came within four days. The sound quality is good, but not exceptional. It is cool that in the ... read more

    Pros: good sound
    Cons: everything else

Summary: At first it worked great. Sounded great and cheaper than the IPod for the same size. However, my problems started with it losing my playlists when I turned it off. Then it would create a hundred or so copies of one song in my playlists. So, I sent it ... read more

Pros: The only advantage to this unit is the price.
Cons: Cheap, highly breakable, horrible support, don't expect any help after the warranty expires.

Summary: I was stupid enough to buy two of these for audible.com content. I had identical problems with both units, called to complain about the unit to non-existent technical support, and finally attempted to have it repaired - 4 days out of warranty - and was ... read more

Pros: can be used as a paper weight
    Cons: For 200 u get a paperweight

Summary: I spent 200$ for this mp3 player thinking it was a great deal, considering that the ipod is 100$ more for the same size. I was wrong. I never was able to get it to transfer music to the player. No problem ill just call customer support. They guy had no ... read more

Pros: FM radio, the sound quality was pretty good , easy to navigate
Cons: Gateway's customer service department is not very helpful. Lots of fingerprints

Summary: After months of MP3 Players research I went with the Gateway DMP-X20 in Feb. 2004. For the most part I loved it. I found it easier to navigate than the Ipod and it had an FM radio tuner. However after only having it for 9 months it simply stopped ... read more

    Pros: Batt Life, Storage, Usability

Summary: Just bought one of these at a closeout since they are not made any more (they are replaced with a new model). I really love mine, it has good battery life and good sound even at low bit rates, plus it works with Linux (well kind of you can copy files but ... read more

Pros: Excellent sound quality, great looks, nice display.
Cons: Headphones supplied, lack of cradle or docking station.

Pros: Sounds decent, bigger screen than iPod, layout is appealing.
Cons: It doesn't know what the hell it is doing. Windows media is used for ripping.

Summary: It worked well for me when I had about 100 songs, but now it's going crazy. It will say wrong titles, albums, and bands, but play the right song. When I push back, it sends me to a random artist. Sounds good, but I would go with the iPod. Although ... read more
