Pros: Best AM and FM reception you can get, nicely designed controls, good sound quality Cons: Serious shortwave listeners might prefer a radio that will receive single-sideband transmissions
If you have a favorite radio talk show or distant station that no normal radio will receive clearly, your troubles may be over. The Grundig S350 is a high performance portable radio that has the sensitivity to make distant radio stations sound like ...
Pros: Great sound, nice handle, batteries last a long time, great for band-scanning (no chuffing) Cons: Switches seem cheap, drifting, no dedicated clock
People like to complain about the auto off feature on this radio that puts the radio into sleep mode when it is turned on, activating a 90 minute count down. But if you push and HOLD the power button for a second longer it turns this feature off and ...
Pros: Excellent reception
Very Good sound
Easy to operate Cons: A little bit of drift in the tuner when the unit is cold.
First I will say that I am new to all this radio stuff. I am kind of a "Techno Geek" and I heard a report on NPR about the Shortwave Number Stations a few months back. My wife asked what I wanted for Christmas and I gave her a short list with a shortwave ...
I like the S350. I really do, but I have to admit its numerous faults. I own both the Grundig version and the Tecsun version which seems to be (ahem) on long-term loan to a friend of mine. If there is a difference, I will note them.< p> The ...
Pros: A great alternative for buyers looking for something different in a shortwave radio Cons: small speaker is a poor performer outdoors
This is a review of the Grundig S350 shortwave radio that I have owned for 3 years. I have decided to rewrite the original review. The radio is a bit larger than the average sized shortwave radio. It runs off of 4 D size batteries which are needed ...
Pros: Audio, AM reception Cons: too many - see review
The filters do a minimal job and only muffle the very good audio. The RF gain control can always be set on maximum, so it only acts like a DX/LOC switch. Even the newer model drifts off the tuned frequency, despite a kludged fix, that only causes ...
Good Radio, but not a miracle worker by sailingshot ,Dec 23 '04
Pros: Good sound and feature set for the price. Cons: A bit large for a travel radio.
This is a nice radio with good sound, especially compared to the more popular "flat" style radios. Runs forever on batteries, excellent reception.
Sitting next to the highly rated Panasonic RF2200, the Grundig was able to pull in AM stations about as well, but not better. It did do better than the Sony 7600 which costs 60 dollars more.
The Grundig's analogue dial is nice, but you do miss presets at times.
Excellent Reception on AM, great traveler. by r2bob ,Oct 30 '05
Pros: AM reception is outstanding, great for the RVer. Cons: Style is too military and dated.
I was given this radio as a present to take in my RV and it has been all over the country. It has outstanding AM reception and selectivity and very good tone. FM reception is very good, and the SW reception is good for a "non-ham" type radio. It is the best digital display receiver I have seen among fellow RVers. Several others after seeing mine has turned around and purchased for themselves. I highly recommend.
Beware of the Auto-Off function by gidgetcctx ,Jan 16 '06
Pros: Good design, easy-to-use buttons and knobs, especially for the (mildly) visually impaired. Cons: Auto-Off function that cannot be disabled.
Bought this radio for my mother, who likes to have AM radio going all night long while she sleeps. Unfortunately this radio shuts itself off after 90 minutes and there is no way to turn this feature off. Otherwise it seemed like a great product, but after one night we boxed it up for return, so we didn't test it too much.
Pros: Reception; great sound from speaker; sturdy antenna is refreshing feature on a portable radio Cons: Store display dial tuner was wobbly; online registration was dead end, no Grundig help
I purchased the S350 after returning a previously purchased Grundig G2000A and am I ever glad I switched. The S350 is what the G2000A is not: a great radio for someone who, like myself, is just getting into listening to shortwave. Its sensitivity is fantastic (I live in Maine by the way) and is limited only by the time of day you tune in (nothing unusual from what I've read). I bought one of those spool-type antennas anticipating having the same poor reception as I did with the G2000A, but have yet to find that I need to use it. The speaker has very good sound (unlike the G2000A, which is 'tinny')and I realized that having a dial tuner is a big advantage compared to using buttons. I highly recommend a dial for anyone just getting into shortwave, it's so much easier to cruise the airwaves. I'd recommend this radio to anyone.
Pros: Excellent AM reception
Good carrying handle
Good FM reception Cons: Extreme frequency drift
Spend too much time trying to keep the dial on the station
I have tried several samples of this radio and even though the reception is excellent, it is just too nerve racking to operate. I am talking about the frequency drift. One spends too much time trying to keep the dial on the station. Except for FM, this is a problem on all bands. I just gave up on it.
Grundig S350 vs. Tivoli Model One by jkwasnik ,Aug 02 '04
Pros: VERY good sensitivity and selectivity; built-in antenna great Cons: not-so-great sound quality (designed for short wave); bug-type transformer AC adapter.
What I wanted for my cubicle at work was an FM radio with high sensitivity and selectivity, so I could pull in the weak college and community radio stations to the left of the dial. We listen on earphones at work, so the speaker performance doesn't really matter.
I was torn between the Tivoli Model One and the Grundig S350, which were both the same price at Good Guys.
I bought the Tivoli first. It has a really nice sound (both radios are monaural) and looks great. It was very good at pulling in weak stations at higher frequencies, but just failed for stations below 91 MHz ... even strong stations came in poorly.
Then I traded it in for the Grundig. This is a portable, and also receives in shortwave, and can function as a clock radio, all of which I didn't need. However, it sure pulls in those weak stations (better than my 30-year-old Marantz tuner, which has served faithfully all that time). Sound quality is not as good as the Tivoli (though with earphones, that is not a factor for me).
