HSU Research VTF-3 Subwoofer Speaker

Pros: Straight-forward operation.
Quality home decor appearance.
Makes itself heard and felt in a good-sized room.
Cons: It's almost two feet tall, and just as deep.

I've only had this home theater subwoofer for two days, but it's all that!  Packaged securely, clear instructions, basically Plug'n'Play.  It's doing everything I hoped it would, both for music and for action movies.  I did a lot of online comparison and for the money, it seemed like the absolute best product.  I don't expect to need another subwoofer in my life, which says it all.  I paid $150 for the model with a wood grain finish, and it looks like fine furniture.  It weighs 90 lbs. but that doesn't seem excessive, -the enclosure might be the most important part of a good sub and this one is solid.  With two 4-inch ports, it's adjustable for medium-frequency LOUDER or extremely low range NOT QUITE SO LOUD.  Maybe in the future I'll order the Turbo add-on, which is claimed to double the output, but that might be over-kill.  It's nice to know there's such an upgrade if I should ever want it.

Pros: Fantastic value! PERIOD! You will not be disappointed.
Cons: Black plastic now available in Rosewood, so no cons.

We can argue all day about what is better and what is worse in speakers, in this case a subwoofer. Hands down, for the money, this is a sweet piece of gear. I won't get into the qualities that I like about it because you will most certainly find different things to like or dislike. I will say that the sub fades into the background as it goes about doing its job (assuming you don't get carried away with excess bass levels). Transparency is a quality I always look for in any speaker.

Hsu Research has hit an economic harmonic in the ratio of cost versus value/benefit, pleasure, performance...you name it. This is one mean bargain for your subwoofer dollars. The black pebbly finish may turn a few of you "function follows form" types. BTW, a new Rosewood finish is now available for those so inclined to rate this aspect of the sub. It makes no difference to me since the sub is to be heard (felt) and not seen in my book.
