Pros: Great photos at a fairly cheap price Cons: No features of newer printers (no LCD, no direct camera-connection, no card slots). A bit slow.
Ever since my first child was born I've been a bit of a photo-holic. As a computer geek who takes tons of pictures, it seemed only logical to get a printer that could print good quality photographs. After much research we settled on the Hewlett ...
Pros: Great printer for moderate use! Cons: None so far!
I have been somewhat jinxed when it comes to printers in my office at work. I had previously been more or less forced to use Epson printers to be compatible with Macs but changes in the last few years have me on a PC now. When I needed a new printer ...
Pros: Great quality, easy to find cartridges, no jams. Cons: Noisy.
I bought this printer when it first came out. I was tired of Epson and Canon printers that consumed ink like oxygen and were forever jamming or giving me problems. As a social sciences student, I print a lot of journal articles and my own authored ...
Pros: Durable, easy to use and set up. Hasn't failed me yet in 4 years. Cons: Inks are a little pricey and there are no added docking or memory ports.
My brother bought me a Deskjet 5550 for my birthday about 4 years ago after he watched me struggle with an old Cannon printer that I rebuilt several times. It has lasted me the four years so it has my rating of very durable due to the fact I print a lot ...
Pros: Good quality print, basic model Cons: Incompatible cartridges, slow, big
I’ve had my Hewlett Packard 5550 Deskjet printer for about 3 ½ years now (it came with the Mac Powerbook G4 when I bought it). Up until about last year the printer worked fine, it printed pretty good quality documents and even if I wanted to print a ...
Pros: This printer is a WORKHOUSE and can handle just about anything Cons: Might be hard to find, I think HP has upgraded to a newer model
I got this printer several years ago marked down at Target to $12. It's one of the best investments I ever made, and it saved me from losing an important account. I have a small company that does corporate training, and I spent so long putting ...
Pros: Excellent photo quality, quick fast-draft setting, nicely designed Cons: A little noisy, fast-draft can spit paper everywhere, big and hefty
I purchased this HP 5550 printer while in college sometime between 2000-2002. For college use, I just needed a printer for normal paper work with occasional color prints. It was absolutely surprising how well it handled photo print quality. For a $100 ...
Pros: The only pro as far as I'm concerned is that is stylish. Cons: The cons are that it completely fails at printing.
This printer is by far the worst printer money can buy. It came with our Apple and worked fine for a little while. Yet, all of a sudden, when hooking up the wireless Internet, something happened. Well, it just stopped working. Anytime, we want to print something, we must restart the wireless Internet, a time consuming and annoying process.
Awesome prints and reliability by matalen ,Dec 05 '05
Pros: Prints excellent every time. Doesn't use a lot of ink. Very reliable. Cons: Prints pictures slower than more expensive printers.
This printer's print quality and reliability are outstanding. I've had this printer for nearly 2 years now and I have not had one problem. This printer always prints, is fast enough, and the color quality is awesome. I've printed envelopes, business cards, pictures, and reports and with every page comes excellent print quality. Highly recommended printer.
Pros: Both Parallel and USB connection Cons: Ink Level display not accurate
This printer lasted me 3 years, now the had part is findinding a replacement.I'm really mad at the game hp seems to be playing with ink these days, I just bought 2 new cart. for this printer and have the 3'rd for "6 color printing" all are now useless because none of hp's new printers use those model numbers.(A con if you ask me!) Also let me decide if I want to connect by way of usb or parallel port don't take away my options!Let me free up my usb ports, parallel ports have one funtion PRINTERS! I have an array of devices I use my usb ports for already.
HP 5550 deskjet I've had it for many years by villalydia ,Jul 16 '08
Pros: Slow but reliable. Can obtain inexpensive refills at Walgreens. Cons: Slow.
Doesn't use much ink, prints slow as molasses. Probably like 1 sheet per minute. I refill the cartridges inexpensively at Walgreen's Drug Store (I'm so glad they offer this service). Very few paper jams. Wanted to replace it with a printer and scanner combo that uses the same cartridges (for similar capacity). Not possible to buy one using the same cartridges. The black ink uses a #56 19 mil cartridge (450 pages) and the color ink uses a #57 17 mil cartridge (400 pages). This printer was recommended to me by someone and that's why I purchased it. Just wish it came with a scanner. Possibly the slow rate of printing has something to do with my computer, as it has been acting quite temperamentally lately. Seems to be printing slower that usual. But it's never been what you could consider to be a fast printer.
Excellent quality and speed. by jf67-4_839 ,Mar 06 '07
Pros: High quality, fast, brilliant photos, easy use, long lasting cartridges can be found any store. Cons: I have had NO problems with this printer at all.
I have had this printer for about 5 years now and I plan on using this printer until it dies. It has always worked when I needed it to. The quality is amazing on this printer. I bought a Lexmark All-In-One 1185 just to see if maybe it was better than this HP printer but it couldn't beat this HP on any printing project and Lexmark's ink is way too much money and doesn't last nearly as long as HP! It is very high speed on normal print. The cartridges are less expensive than Lexmark, and they last longer so you get more for your money with HP. It has a cancel button so if there is something you don't want to print, it can be easily stopped. It has never had any problems with the paper feeding. The only time it jammed up was when I was trying to print a banner without changing the paper settings and that was my fault! That was when I first bought it and didn't know what I was doing! The point is that no matter what you are printing with this printer, there is no problems.
Epson 5550 came with a Mac I bought. by teazepottery ,May 08 '06
Pros: Picture, photo and text quality. Cons: Size
We got this 5550 HP printer when I bought my Mac powerbook a few years ago. It came "free" with the laptop. I think it would have been about $100. I didn't even use it for at least a year because I was using up Epson cartridges. The Epson was smaller than the 5550 in size only. I was so happy with the new printer at first and we still are. It uses less ink and prints a better product overall as well as holds more paper. I have to say the full on photo's using the proper paper and settings are amazing!!!! It seems that all ink cartridges are expensive for all printers. I am just now going to try a place that sells ink cart. for cheaper. Not OEM that's for sure but half the price. If I ever but a new printer I will make most of the decision on the cost of the replacement cartridges.
It is now two years later and we still love the printer. It does better than any printer I have ever had.
Good machine, excellent support. by jimjuliem ,May 12 '09
Pros: Good Value. Reliable. Good quality priniting. Low profile, Looks good. Cons: I can't think of any downsides.
After a few years of excellent service this inkjet 5550 is still cranking out prints like nobody's business. I like the quality and reliability of the machine. I accidentally dumped a driver and got an error message to that effect (altough the printer still worked!). I sent an email to HP support and they gave me a detailed message with step by step instructions on how to download what was needed. They were really nice long after the warrentee expired. Good for them. A on service.
