Hewlett Packard Pavilion zd8000 (ZD8000AV) PC Notebook

Pros: Well built. Many features. Decent options
Cons: Not the latest graphics card. Nor is it replaceable. Cannot partiton without completely starting over.

Well, this seems to be the hottest desktop replacement on the market today. I sold an Alienware Athlon 64 bit computer to get this. Here is what I ordered and am reviewing. HP ZD8000 with P4 3.6 Ghz. 17" WSXGA screen (1680 X 1050) 100 GB 5400 RPM Hard ...

Pros: Powerful, great screen, loaded with options. will replace your desktop and do some more.
Cons: very heavy, very loud, almost no battery life. will replace your fire place in winter.

I had this laptop over 6 months now. It replaced my desktop and I have not looked back yet. It has great keyboard with full numeric pad. 17 inch screen that I have is the WSXGA brightview 1680x1050. It is bright. Mine came with many upgrades but even the bone dry version is very good. I love the lightscribe dvd rw. It is very cool and gives many braging rights.
I used HP shopping online and they were very fast. My laptop arrived right on time.
My work is labor intensive, so it's weight is not a problem. But many travelers will not want this laptop. I think it is over kill for business use.

Update February 06

I just loaded AVID Newscutter XP professional editing software. I have an external hard drive.
It works like a champ. I am amazed that I did not have to do any upgrades to my HP to handle demanding professional broadcast video editing needs.
I had to call the service department twice for questions and they were fast and right on the money.
I use my computer for work and home. It has been a great investment so far.

Pros: screen /keyboard/graphics/ everything
Cons: its too heavy for frequent business travel . laptop cooler is recommended.

no need for a desktop with this rig. 3.4ghz pentium 4 100gb hd x600 graphics card w/256mb ram. 17 inch screen. its big its stylish and windows media center edition. also has a tv tuner that i have not tried yet. i can watch tv on my laptop and record a program on another channel at the same time. it handles all the latest games no problem. i also know 3 other people who own differant versions of the same pc and they all love it.
