Pros: All in one unit, fast, small footprint, reliable HP brand name. Cons: none to keep you from buying the unit.
We've just recently bought the HP 5510 OfficeJet All-in-one system. It combines a Printer, Fax, Scanner, and copier all into one machine. It does all operations in either color or black-and-white. I'll try to cover all the areas to help you decide if ...
Pros: Quick. Good quality. Multi sheet fax feeder. Cons: None
Print quality is very good - better than the color lasers at work. It doesn't have the wicking problem that plagued early ink jets where the ink spread into the paper slightly. Once you print something, the paper is dry as soon as it's done. It's done ...
Pros: Easy setup / compact / decent scanning / good ink "mileage" Cons: Cover and paper tray feel a little flimsy
Purchased this model from OfficeMax a couple of weeks ago [note: I have added a 6-month update near the end of this review], and have been very pleased with its performance. I went shopping for a cheap fax machine, but decided that the convenience of a ...
Pros: Attractive design, document feed tray that works well, makes great photocopies, not too bulky. Cons: Within a year the printer was out of alignment. Unable to fix. Ink expensive.
This is the second HP I have owned. The first one purchased about 12 years ago was terrific. Well-made and high quality. So needless to say I was shocked that I have had so much trouble with the 5510. I was in the market for an all-in-one and the ...
Pros: Price (if can find on sale / used); low key style; reliable ongoing HP support Cons: May be hard to find used or cheap because they are so reliable.
December 2006 : While I have not had to use it every day, I have used every feature: print, scan, fax, copy. I find the flatbed so helpful that I do not know why there is not more demand for flatbeds. Also, on the top, the feeder has hardly ever, or ...
Pros: Small, lightweight Cons: Software drivers cause major headaches.
I purchased this machine 2 months ago. The second day I had it, the display wouldn't stop flashing and the machine wouldn't start printing! Tech support had me unplug, plug back in, push buttons in sequence, unplug again, etc. At times I felt like I ...
Pros: Good price, all the features you need, small. Cons: None, considering the nature of all inkjet printers and the price point.
The HP OfficeJet 5510 is the smallest and least expensive real all-in-one (printer, flatbed scanner, stand-alone copier, and FAX) on the market. It is easy to set up and has full driver support for both Mac OS X and MS Windows. Once you've spent a few ...
Pros: Small Footprint - Excellent Scans originally- Easy Fax Cons: Paper feed first to give trouble - cheap plastic construction
1st- No support for Mac OSX 10.4 Tiger. 2nd- Printer mechanism broke down faster than any other inkjet I've owned. OK for price, but own extended warranty-- mine fouled 13months into ownership! I struggled with issues regarding global reset more than ...
Pros: - All in all a good buy as an AIO. Cons: - Installation is too long and bloats my PC with stuff I don't want.
I've owned 4 printers over the last few years and have used many more at work. But this my first AIO (All in One). If you can get it for $175 or less then it is worth the money (Disclaimer: I haven't tried their tech support which is outsourced and ...
Pros: I'm trying really hard to come up with some. Okay, it's relatively small. Cons: They've got you over a barrel with the ink, and they know it.
I've never really loved this machine -- it replaced an HP G85 multifunction machine (which, in typical HP form, died when a 20 cent part broke and sent a $600 machine to printer heaven. NO ONE repairs HP multifunction machines, certainly not any of ...
Pros: good value, frees up desk space Cons: a little on the slow side
The HP 5510 is not the best printer I have used nor is it the best scanner, FAX or copy machine. If I had bought a better Printer, which I could for around $200.00 Then A better FAX for another 150 bucks. My kids now have a HP scanner that works a ...
overall good machine with a few minor quirks by dimamo1983 ,Nov 04 '06
Pros: durable and functional, not too loud, not a single paper jam in 20 months Cons: sometimes hangs up when scanning
I've had this all-in-one for about 20 months now. Overall I am pretty happy with its performance as printer and scanner. I have not set it up to use for faxes. The print cartridge has lasted me for a year, pretty good even though I do not make too many prints. Quality of regular prints is good so as scanning. OCR function of the scanner is kind of sketchy and if you saw your work as image files they turn out to be twice as big as the originals (sizewise) for whatever reason, but I noticed that to be true for pretty much all HP scanners. The software that comes with it is not all that great, so I'm using my own image management programs.
The only real quirk I have experienced is that sometimes it hangs up when I try to scan something. The button just keeps blinking but nothing happens and it wont react to any button presses. Usually I have to pull the power cord out and then plug it back in. Sometimes I need to restart my computer. It happens about once a month so it's not such a big deal.
Hewlett Packard 5510 all-in-one by moistworm ,Jul 15 '05
Pros: Tasty packaging ( if a little tough ) Cons: Lack of 'feel' for inserting paper in main tray.
I bought one of these a couple of months ago and can honestly say the quality and speed are striking along with the ease of use. The paper feed could be a bit more positive as , when you insert a wad of paper its hard to know when to stop pushing ! The scanner is top-knotch and can scan and print at full rez. in less than a minute ! I would certainly recommend one of these. Also the packaging is tasty with a bit of Branston and some BBQ beans !
Forget it if you have a Mac by deelaina ,Aug 30 '05
Pros: Small, all-in one Cons: Cannot save different scanning profiles or change the default settings.
Awkward placement of ink cartridges.
HP Scan software (HP scanning software for Mac), is very frustrating.
Here's a simple scenario that I assume occurs in many office settings:
I have a bunch of 8.5 x 11-inch papers that I need to scan to make them into PDFs. However, each time I scan a page on this printer with the HP Scan software, it scans the entire scanbed, which gives me an extra half-inch white space at the bottom of each page. It doesn't remember the settings for the previous scan, nor can I save settings or change the default settings. What a waste of hours of time!
Also, the HP Scan software quit on me 10 times in two days.
Thirdly, the Print-to-PDF function just doesn't work. Period.
Finally, there is no way to turn off the "preview scan" function. For every page I want to scan, I have to wait for it to scan a preview, then re-position the area I want to scan (8.5 x 11), change the image type to grayscale, and wait even longer for it to scan again. Why can't it just remember these settings so all I have to do is scan it once, and that's it?
after 4 years it's still "mostly" reliable but time for an upgrade by bkoref ,Aug 13 '07
Pros: Small form factor, multi-sheet fax and scanning Cons: 1. Slow fax feeding.
2. Controls on top
I've owned this printer going on 4 years now and use it for general purpose office work. My biggest complaint are two: First, the controls are positioned on top of the unit. This means that when I need to fax something, I have get out of my chair and stand over the machine to enter the phone number and such. The other complaint I have is that when sending a fax, the fax starts and the page seems to "inch its way" through the rollers. This wastes time...My other complaint is that every once in a while when I copy a document, I get a strange machine image on the first inch of my page. It's hard to explain...the only fix is to pull the plug and reset the machine. Other than that, it's a reliable printer...
