Pros: Lightweight, very portable, long battery life (with heavier battery), durable, reliable, crashes rarely. Cons: Screen size small (I don't mind this), slower than a larger machine, docking station required
Let me begin by saying that the epinions weight of 4.89 pounds probably includes the docking base; without the base it's around 3 pounds even with the 7-hour battery. For a law student, this is the major draw of the X40; it weighs less than one of our ...

Pros: Great Battery life, Keyboard, built like a tank, very light Cons: no firewire port
I travel a lot, with lots of long flights. This is my fourth ultra-light machine, and so far, I'd say that it's the best I've used.(I write books for a living, if you're wondering the type of work I do on the machine.) In short, it's very light, has a ...

Compact size Laptop
by roy878 ,Aug 16 '05
Pros: Compact, built-in SD slot, Wifi, XP, docking station, multiple ports Cons: Small HDb
This is the perfect small size laptop. The 12inch screen works for the type of work I do. The bonus is the docking station that lets you leave the ports and DVD player in the office that make the laptop slim. The built-in SD card slot is a must. The standard battery lasts just over an hour with the wireless and DVD access. The speed is not meant for gaming and the big negative is the super small HD 20GB that is even smaller because the software backup is on a partion leaving only 14GB left. This is a great travel size computer.

Thinkpad X40 crashes
by the-doctor ,Sep 01 '05
Pros: Wonderful design when working Cons: One hard drive after another fails.
I have had my X40 for nine months and love it - except it keeps crashing. IBM replaced the system board and I am now on my 4th hard drive replacement and still they can't figure our why this machine keeps failing. I have asked them to replace the machine but their response is that "they need to figure out what is wrong with my unit." In the mean time I have to put up with these crashes. Over the last 6 weeks my unit has only worked for about 10 days the rest of the time I have been waiting for replacement parts.
This will be my last IBM!
